Loving my MP3 125 ie. First servicing done. Its a wonderful ride. Pretty rare so it attracts awkward stares. Had a bunch of Vietnamese tourist come up and take photos with my bike and I. In terms of performance, the acceleration is not fantastic, and I tend to max the throttle everywhere i go. Brakes are good and they bite well. Stability is excellent, had to swerve to avoid a volvo the other day who cut into my lane, the bike jiggled for a second and then resumed its rigid riding stance again. Loving the storage and road presence. Not many modifications done save for the horn and the grips. Intending to change the rollers, exhaust and lights in the near future.

was rear-ended by a car last week, and my entire number plate part was knocked into my back wheel...

bike was super stable when it happened, just a slight jolt and didnt skid or anything.

left the bike at PSC @ Genting Lane and was surprised that they fixed it within 48 hours.

came up pretty cheap too...

excellent service i might say...

heard from people working there that there is going to be a facelift for the mp3 next year, so that will be interested.

and yeah, saw some new mp3s parked there, red in colour...

Hello mate! I ride a Piaggio MP3 125ie with Hepco and Becker Top box. My suspension setting is on 4 (Heavy load, rider and pillion setting).

And guys, apologies, I haven't been active for a while. And since my relocation plans failed, I'm keeping the MP3. Again, I'm very sorry for not replying all of you.

Hmmm roof and box. Might pose a challenge since the only rear mounting point is where the backrest would be. Even with a box, you have to remove the backrest and install a mounting bracket. That would take up the entire mounting point leaving no attachment points for a roof. Having said that, I would think a roof on the MP3 is a great idea. Perfect all weather riding option.

I agree! We should have a gathering! always a joy to see fellow MP3 riders on the road! Give a tap of the horn and a wave when I see them.

A Fellow user asked me for my opinion on the MP3 a few days ago. I thought it would be helpful to publish my thoughts so that other prospective riders can evaluate the pros and cons.

Disclaimer: Personal Opinion stated. Not intended to be authoritative and/or instructive.

The MP3 is a good choice as a first bike but I must set out two cautionary points first.

1. It's Expensive

2. It's Big and heavy.

Point 1.

It will probably set you back close to 13-14k. Depending on your age, the price will differ as insurance premiums are based on age. Compared to a normal 2 wheeled bike i.e. the Runner, which is approx 8k, you can see a huge price difference. Also, if you are keen, you might want to book one now, because you need to wait for delivery.

Point 2.

Riding it is a totally different experience from riding normal driving school's 2 wheeled bike. The MP3 is extremely heavy and big. Initially, you might also find it a bit scary to ride between vehicles because of its size. But having said this, the weight is manageable and the more you ride the stronger you get (interesting effect if you want to keep fit =)). And with experience, coasting through traffic is a breeze.

So when you can come to terms with the two points above, then we consider the other factors.

Maintenance

1k servicing approx $40 for oil filter change and oil change. 3k,5k servicing approx $22 for oil change only. Air filter costs $14, break leaver costs $14 if you break it. My workshop does not charge workmanship and i use fully synthetic oil all the time. Once you hit 10k you need to change oil filter, oil, belt and probably the rear tyre. That will cost approx $100-$150 depending on the kind of tyre you choose. The front tyrres will last approx 3 rear tyre changes.

Fuel

Average consumption approx. 240-260km per full tank (9-12l). Average of 26-28km per L. I pump only 98. Esso is pretty ok but not very efficient. Carltex is great for smoothness and acceleration and shell is excellent for power. Average cost at per pump $18-$20.

Safety

3 Wheels, grip and stability is there. Of course when you ride the parallelogram suspension system absorbs the bumps pretty well. Having said that, the bike can fall over if you 1. put the hand break on and rev causing the system to unlock 2. locking the suspension and then pushing the bike over uneven surfaces. Traction is good especially in the wet. Last point, riding is dangerous. So ride defensively.

Handling ad Power

Totally different from 2 wheels. The turns are taken like driving a car with the lean in of a bike. Interesting experience. I have taken corners at full tilt and loved it. Power is not fantastic, power to weight ratio is small. So you might reach a max of 115-120 on the highway, but you will will running at full throttle.

Closing Comments

Loads of storage space, you can put 2 full face helmets under the seat and boot. So its excellent. I have a box attached so I ca carry another 2 helmets worth of goods (45l). Looks, well people ooggle and stare as they would at a Ferrari or a Lambo, so you do get some attention. And the club is exclusive as not many people ride it so its a nice feeling. Not much accessories you can add. Thus far, I've changed the horns and grips. Planning to change the rollers, exhaust, lights and air filter when i reach 10k or 1 year. Thinking of adding an alarm as well.

Hope you find this useful. Do let me know if you need any more info. Cheers!
