sometimes during riding, my gear would drop down, eg 5th to 4th or 2nd to neutral, causing a jerk. my mechanic told me got to change something inside the gear box + maybe gear plate have to be change. it will add up to a heafty sum. anybody knows what could be the likely cause n how the cost gonna be like?

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

get it fixed before more damage to your gears/clutch...

hope u r not using car eo with super friction reducer...this can cause cltch failures..

How old is the bike? What is the model of the bike?

 

Do you have the habit of placing your left foot on the shifting pedal when you ride?

 

When you accelerate and the gearbox dropped to a false neutral, it could be a worn dog teeth or/and a bent/worn shift fork. Both need to split your gearbox to rectify.

 

IMHO, clutch is unlikely the culprit of the problem that you have described.

rectifying it may cost a bomb, but leaving in unattended would cost more than a bomb later..

probably it's just worn out.

maybe you might want to change the sprockets first..?:thumb:

no, as best possible, my foot wont be touching the pedel after each gear shift, and on 5th gear, my foot wont be on the pedel also.

 

 

i found that if i do a quick close throttle, i'm able to shift gear. i didn't do it too many times, just tried out for fun. could doing this spoilt the gear?

 

r spokets gear/clutch plates? i got that changed about 2yrs back, cost me $1xx. :cry:

3 year plus is relatively new, high mileage wear and tear (especially on the parts like shift drum, drum cam, shift fork pins and ratchet) are not in the consideration in my opinion.

 

When the dog teeth of the gears are not aligned at the time of shifting and the rider putting greater than usual force on the shifting pedal to force in a gear, that will cause a bent shift fork.

 

When a shift fork is bent, the shifting drum and shift fork mechanism will no longer snapping 2 gears in a fully engaged manner leaving the dog teeth of the gears half engaged or less and cause a “jumping out of gear” problem.

 

The shift fork or parts in the gearbox are not that expensive but that labour charges are the killing part.

 

 

A worn dog teeth (yellow colour) in one or more gears in the gearbox will cause the similar problem too.

thanks, that explains a lot. btw will releasing of clutch too fast cause this drop? in the morning when kan chiong, at times might release too fast.

 

my milage is about 35k. considered hi?

Hi guys wondering also if shift to neutral then u release clutch while stationary and the bike dies with a jerk (I.E. like release clutch on 1st gear stationary) is it the same problem? Cannot start unless clucth is pulled.

i encounter that a few times.. neutral light 'on' but neutral gear not engaged. I was still in gear 1.. nv engage neutral properly.. most bikes have safety feature of not able to start unless in neutral gear or clutch pulled..

yeah.. clutchless upshift.. wun damage ur system if done correctly..
