hi forumers.. imwondering if we can do these things on our own, without having the bike shop do it for us and charge admin fees...

1) bid for COE

2) buy insurance

3) buy IU

im trying to see if i can just buy a first-hand bike from a shop at only the machine price and do the rest on my own..

anyone can tell me how and where to do the above things?

Without all these, they will still charge you admin fee. Might as well let them do.

I buy my insurance from Seng Motor Hung (aka Universal Motors) at Alexandra. They charge me the insurance only cause they get their commission from insurance companies.

IU, you can buy from Vicom if I am not wrong.

No lah, I am just letting you know where I get my insurance as a reference. Some shops charge a fee for doing insurance for you, some don't do that. You can go also straight to the insurance companies to buy insurance.

Why I go universal is because I can go through a list insurance companies' price and decide which company's insurance I want. There are other shops doing that also, just that I dunno only.

Upon reading the topic of this thread "DIY Insurace coe etc" makes me think that you are thinking of forging insurance out.. LOL

Anyway for a new vehicle COE bidding i would suggest you get the motorshop personnel to do it for you.

Insurance you can directly settle it through the insurance company, sometimes going through by shop might result a raise in price, this is because shop personnel would usually charged you a admin fee. I believe they themselves has commission to earn..

For IU, you can personally go down to any LTA of vicom centre to purchase it and perhaps go to shops to allocate a bracket for you IU.

thanks all for the info!

anyways, i saw in the onemotoring website, that an 'individual or company' can bid for the coe... i think that if i can bid for my own coe, then it would save me on being charged for admin fee and other hidden costs.. means i just pay the machine price outright.. no other misc charges..
