Hi bro... for downtown, the glove compartment does not need any key to open...

downtown comes standard with 3 keys... however if your bike still under instalments, the shop will keep one key... =)

Anyway, the key has got no chips installed. you can duplicate the keys. but bear in mind that you will not be able to duplicate the security device at the back of the key for accessing the shutter at the key hole.

as for the read shocks, please bring it down to shops to get it adjusted.

@Caddie

The Previous owner have used a DIY lock for the glove compartment hence the additional key.

My Downtown came with only 2 keys. The newer models came with 3 keys.

For rear shock the spanner/tool for adjusting the rear shock is as good as useless on the right hand side due to the blockage of the exhaust.

However it can be adjusted with just the bare hands. Just need to know the correct technique.

Adjusting down from 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 is just a simple twist.

Going from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 just have to push upward/ pull upwards and twist at the same time.

Not advisable to do if you are not sure as you may slip and cut your hands. If you are the very hands on person then it should be easy with some effort.

Is the security device for the shutter universal for all dt300I?

I think i change it at 26,000km .

Owner's manual stated 20,000km.

Motorsport mechanic says depending on how the scooter is used can last from 30,000km to 40,000km.

Hard use 30,000km

Gentle use 40,000km

The problem here is if you use on Singapore roads only. If sway sway snapped, are you going to accept or curse and swear?

I guess the mechanic witness 40,000km belt before hence the confidence to comment.

I personally do not recommend using more than 30,000km.

As the performance will drop like fuel consumption and the scoot will drag more due to belt wear and roller wear.

I wanted to see how long it can last before i change it out but at 26,000km there's already some cracked marks at some grooves and I am going up North. Totally not worth the risk.

If I am in Singapore only I may just drag it until 30,000km and check again. IMO totally not worth to stretch the km as performance is compromise at the expense of petrol, riding comfort and safety.

After changing the belt and rollers and U-shoes the cruising performance is back. Lower rpm, more silent and a peace of mind.

As compared to Piaggio, Kymco belt last slightly longer. Piaggio(Gilera Nexus 300) is around 15,000km. The rest of the scooters maybe change as early as 10,000km.

IMO 25,000km change is the max safest bet if you ride like me. Max speed, green light drag, sudden acceleration, carry pillion but only occasionally.

So far I am very happy with DT performance. Don't have the not enough power feeling. Always just nice. Acceptable power.

I would say power is just nice. Over take, acceleration, carry pillion, cornering, low, storage, large seat, able to squeeze in tight traffic, dependable, only cannot stretch leg ha ha.

Ya this guy scoot is good. Low mileage, more powerful and more fuel saving than the newer model.

Why the previous batch more power and better fuel consumption? The reason i heard is due to the different euro emission standard then hence a few horses more.

Why saves more fuel? More power naturally will save slightly more fuel (Hard to explain) and the variator are built for lower running rpm.

If you want power and good fuel consumption, this is the better older model to get.

For those who are interested I can explain why the newer model are not inferior as compare to the older one although it makes less horses and get about 3-5km/L lesser.
