Sigh.......... just drop by the workshop today.

Last night while riding in the rain, the same problem came back and worse....... it felt like

the fuel was not injecting properly (that kind of feeling)

I guess I was asking too much of a Taiwanese bike as 11 of my 16 bikes were all Honda.

Not that I wanted to compare to the Honda, but I thought it should be much smoother.

And yes, they are using the latest clutch model which is the outer comp clutch LEA7 and the LGE5.

Maybe the problem is the LEA7. Anyway just speculating here.

Anyway, they took out the clutch and bell to clean again and advise me to "push" it a bit harder

as the engine can take it and besides it is cover by their one year warranty. =_=

Maybe it is just me, but I told them I really want to resolve this issue as that would help any new downtown riders

and also placate my feelings. :(

Any bro here wanna meet up to exchange bike for a short test ride. No hard riding needed.

Let me know if you are up for it then we can find a safe place to do it.

Will be able to do it after my China trip next week, so if interested just leave a message here.

Bikes ridden:

89-YamahaLC125, 91-SuzukiRG125, 92-HondaCBR400J , 94-YamahaVirago400, 94-SuzukiGSXR400R, 94-YamahaTZR125, 94-HondaCBR400NFireblade, 96-HondaSteed400,

Sorry to hear about your situation. Although i do not own 11 Honda bikes but the jerking of the clutch maybe an issue.

I've ridden only 3 different model of italian piaggio scooter (Skipper150, Gilera Runner SP180 and Gilera Nexus 300) The skipper 150 4T model and runner do not have any jerky feeling most of the time except when the clutch is wet after washing and raining before riding or on a very cold morning where condensation on the clutch is likely hence the jerkiness but only for the first few revs after that the jerkiness when moving off is non existent.

Infact on most occasion with all the condition present, don't even have any jerkiness.

Only for the Nexus 300 which has a constant jerkiness from new when moving off.

After servicing the clutch and clutch bell last week by sanding it, the problem is gone for now :p

So, i suspect that the kymco clutch system maybe but not limited to be the culprit.

As for you owning so many honda (scooter too?) i do not see that your expectation for Kymco should be any less since it is comparable to honda and Kymco do give Honda a run for their money.

Being a parts supplier for honda with honda technology to back them up, it's no excuse to be sloppy just because it's a Taiwanese brand and cost cheaper.

Hopefully a new clutch system will be replaced with an improved one at a reasonable cost if not free.

From the look of things, Kymco will be releasing improved stuff over time with the same engine but different models. Like the latest Grand Dink 300i using the xciting 300i engine. So hopefully an improved parts for new scooter running the same engine type will be release soon like the shadow GT300i.

So it seems that the LGE5 is still not good enough.

Then no choice may have to go for the $500 option of changing the rear clutch systems to the DR Pulley Hit clutch type.

Don't dare to try also, wait same problem or lesser or maybe worst!

Well at present, me riding with the jerkiness is uncomfortable but i try not to think about it cause still new and it will make my heart ache also. So i take it as it is for the moment. What wins me is the pickup though i have to say that this engine behaves with a turbo lag before the power start to kick in weeeeeeeeeeeeee......

Still looking for new stuff to maybe improve the jerkiness then after that performance. Strictly speaking, i bought this scoot for it's price, performance, simplicity and reliability which only time will tell ha ha.

Economical will be the word, bells and whistles are good to have if you got the dough.

I have not actually taken the transmission apart to look see look see but wouldn't anyway, too troublesome.

Will still look around on the net for solution and as of now from what i read on the taiwanese Jorsindo web, Malossi Variator seems to solve the jerkiness problem, don't even need to change the clutch.

Will post the article hyperlink once i found it by accident again hee hee...

In the mean time, ride safe and yes, you are not alone :)

This is my third scooter, my 1st being a Piaggio X9 and then follow by the Silverwing.

I have also chosen this scooter because of its price and performance.

Anyway, looking to run in the bike 1st in the meantime. Maybe will consider the Malossi parts or even the DR Pulley system if I really cannot

take it anymore or hope that they might be able to come out with a solution for this problem. ;)

Gonna try taking it for a long run after my China trip and see how is the bike afterwards.

Seems to be fine always after going a certain distance.

Maybe just taking it for a ride to Desaru and back.

The people at Motorsport have organise a trip to Hatyai for Kymco riders

and a couple of Downtown will be going.

Hi Guys, Just notice that i caused a misunderstanding regarding the jerking issue of my DT3 when moving off. As i was moving off a while ago with my buddy on my DT3, i asked if my scoot is jerky when it's about to move off (biting point). So i try a few times to show him what i meant and he says can feel the vibration. And it then occurs to me that it was a vibration issue rather than the jerky feeling.

Yes, i have confuse the vibration with jerkiness instead. So it is actually vibration when moving off not jerkiness. Then again the vibration is very irritating, not that it is bad but was expecting it to be smooth.

Then there is this turbo lag feeling i was talking about, when sudden WOT (wide open throttle). I did a sudden WOT yesterday @ 80km/h and there was no lag at all and the engine spool up and pick up very fast. Then thinking how come sometimes got lag, suddenly i realize the last time i did a WOT and lag was the day before thru traffic on the way to work. As the road is packed and slow on normal street, i ride slowly thru traffic at around 30km/h to 50km/h between cars. As usual when there is a gap in front i would WOT into it and during this WOT (cars behind are coming) there is this lag less than 1sec before the engine spool up and power into the gap. So i have concluded that due to the low speed in slow traffic, a sudden WOT would have some lag due to low speed. At 80km/h ~5200rpm there is no lag at all when sudden WOT. :cheer:

Scoot is still under review

Still got a lot to learn :D

Recently just notice that when turn on the engine when cold the TEMP guage always shows 1 bar. Do you guy experience that?

My current fuel consumption is 25km/l

Can anyone suggest how i can hit 30km/l current mileage 830km maybe must run in some more :)

Can riding at cruising speed of 140km/h have a consumption of 30km/l?

your is 125 or 300?

I am getting consistently above 30km/litre since brand new. Even druing run in with mineral oil.

Now on Synthetic, giving me 33km/litre

Current mileage around 7000km

Touring twice on this bike at high speed gives around 25km/litres

Wow you got yourself a mango nice and sweet.

Mine is a 300. My current mileage is 950km.

My last full tank was set at 10 liters until blinking and it shows 250km.

I'm on my next 10 liters, will see again.

25km/l vs 30km/l

I ride normally all within speed limit. Rarely in racing mode.

This morning after a short warm up and moving off I suddenly realize hey how come the DT seems different today. So I stop and wonder, hmmm where is the usual vibration, then it suddenly hit me and hey isn't it great. So I tried moving off again and it's noticebly lesser and acceptable, wow that's great for the time being. Need to test longer :D

I think there really might be a problem with your bike based on your description and FC.

Go look for the Boss Herbert. I am sure he will honour the warranty.

Wow! paithorn that's a very detailed FC record you have. Must keep record like you.

Can't really remember at 90km/h but my 100km/h is about 5600rpm on a flat road, lesser if sloping down and higher if going up. For 5000rpm should be around 80km/h. Will confirm again.

Posted
5000rpm is around 90kmh. 4600rpm for 80kmh. Let's compare.

No wonder my consumption so high. Guess I can't achieve 30km/l Liao.

Just tried. Flat road hold throttle 80km/h @5600rpm.

80km/h @ 5600rpm vs 4600rpm how to beat :(

Will try again to get the most accurate reading.

Posted

Thats why I wanna compare. The fc cannot be so bad. It is either transmission or brakes binding. Go look for Herbert ASAP

Posted (edited)

Nope, no brake bind. Transmission? Ok I'll check with Herbert soon.

I was reading the MaxSym thread and the review mention that at 5000rpm(Maxsym400)can hit 100km/h.

So I tried before to see if DT is the same but can't remember the rpm clearly. It's either 5600rpm or 6000rpm. Since my 80km/h is already @ 5600rpm them 100km/h may be at 6000rpm. Will try tonight if going out.

Ok, just came back from test from bukit batok to tuas and from tuas to KJE/BKE to Jurong back to bukit batok.

Below are my findings.

Due to street riding, rpm will be higher due to the variator not being able to stuck at a higher gear to get a lower rpm so an expressway reading will be use. There is a difference in rpm between street riding and expressway riding.

Expressway riding - due to uneven gradient of the road (sloping down - lower rpm and sloping up - higher rpm) i have determine the average and most stable reading taken assuming that paticular stretch is flat/level)

paithorn

80km/h - 4600rpm

90km/h - 5000rpm

Me

60km/h - 4600rpm

70km/h - 5100rpm

80km/h - 5400rpm

90km/h - 5600rpm

100km/h- 5900rpm
