May have to change to previous model variator to get back the lower rpm. Just speculating here. That maybe why Shadow GT300i(LGE5) performance is better but not fuel economy(I do not know shadow fuel economy). Have to switch to see any substantial difference. It's either improved parts or better fuel economy.

The Center column should be - SK60A? instead of Heading LEA7

The Right column should be - SK60AE instead of Heading LGE5

My fear is confirmed!

Rode to Parkway Parade and back.

Left 2 bar fuel and mileage at 248km on the way home.

At exactly 1bar it started to blink at 252km.

So i can safely say this DT3 is not going to get any better mileage than 25km/l unless maybe with the change of the LEA7 variator.

Still feel that no amountor run-in or tuning will change the fact that it is running at a higher rpm.

So went petrol station pump another 10 liters. Already know the outcome :p

Sorry to confuse you guys.

The latest batch of Downtown with hazard lights are equipped(factory fitted) with the latest improved variator and rear clutch (LGE5)from Shadow to improve it's performance and vibration. Kymco came out with the model Shadow GT300i which is using the same downtown engine. Shadow GT300i are known as People 300 in Europe. Kymco made the Shadow sportier in performance. So Kymco used the Shadow parts and incorporated into the Downtown to make it sportier and improved the clutch vibration issue. I am assuming that the shadow variator although made DT3 more torquey by raising the rpm, made fuel consumption worst. So I am assuming that since paithorn is using the previous version of DT without hazard light using a LEA7 variator with such a good consumption and low rpm, I am assuming that it might be the solution to improve fuel consumption.

Yup, mine got no hazard light.

So the look is still the same for these 2 models?

No the look is not the same :)

Shadow is using the same engine. I guess Kymco have to change the variator to accommodate for the bigger wheels and more effort to turn a larger wheels.

Come to think of it - my theory

Example if DT3 with LGE5 5400rpm = 80km/h

Then I assume that shadow with a bigger wheel at the same rpm would be turning faster thus a higher speed 5400rpm may be in the ~100km/h range.

Then again There is still the final drive gear ratio(rear gear box) that are calculated to match the bigger wheel and increase the torque instead of altering the variator. Wah, lots of stuff to consider. Have to calculate gear ratio, tyre size ..... Which I am confuse now :D

Yesterday hit 250km light blink on ECP reach shell Bukit batok around 272km.

272-250=22km used. 1 liter = 25km so 22km extra to pump extra 880ml so round off to 1 liter.

So 10liters+1liter= 11liters.

So I pump 11liters and it overflow alot.

Well, at this moment of time yes. That's how it seems now :D D:

Don't know to laugh or cry LOL! Just ride first.

Can't wait for the EICMA 2011 to showcase new KYMCO models.

EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori), or the Milan Motorcycle Show is an annual trade show in Milan, Italy featuring motorcycles.

Went for my 1st oil change but was told to use the normal oil until my 3rd oil change then change to full synthetic and also change the gear oil.

Would probably try the iridium plug then as well. Need to also change the air filter to Simota

and install in the "powerful" horns. lol

Anyway, will wait for meet up before explaining in details what was done at the shop.

Btw, I stay in Clementi West.

Would Thursday nite be a good time guys?

Today while cornering on a right turn, heard a plastiky grinding noise. Must have grind something below. I remember that I did not play corner, just a faster than usual cornering. I thought this new model has improve on the stuff grinding while cornering issue LOL! Higher center stand to prevent grinding - and now grind the exhaust finisher ......o.O

I think have to grind the plastic some more to prevent future hard cornering with the rear wheel lifting off the ground. Sian, now new bike already grind plastic Liao. I check the rear wheel, still left about 1cm from the edge and now it's limited by the exhaust plastic. Wonder what will happen when I corner on the left side. Hope don,t grind the handle bar lol!

Can anyone confirm if DT3(Downtown300) have a catalytic converter in the exhaust? I read on the owner's manual that prolonged idling may damage the catalytic converter.

Yes DT300i have catalytic converter

I have just discovered that (my gong gong theory again) that the rear torque driver may also be playing a part in higher rpm. Torque driver I know nuts but a stronger torque spring will make gear change slower according to rpm thus higher rpm, faster pickup I think :p

Yes, can I join you guys too if time permits? :cheer:

Yes, like i mentioned earlier, I feel the vibry a lot more than SW. But since I changed to synthetic oil, it is SLIGHTLY better.

SW is a twin cylinder engine and will have less vibration when on idling.

DT300i is a single cylinder engine will have more vibration when idling but when riding you will not feel the vibration that much
