i calculate and get a rough estimate of abt 3k..... how i can be sure is that i keep the receipts from the shop.

if u calculate properly, u will realise that alot of ppl spend ard that amt also..... all those nitty-gritty probs that arise often. dun forget the value of time and inconvienience.

kalam:

lol.

u factored in ur overhaul too uh?

i dunno abt the rest. but for me, my bike was overhauled b4 by my friend.

all i changed was those not related to engine. cos my engine is good.

coil, rect, batt, brakes, coolant, fork oil change, chain, tires, etc etc etc... can't remember.

but i never spent money on the internal engine parts. never. cos it's never given me problems b4. if it's ain't broken, don't fix it. frankly speaking, ur bike, dunno why u wanna go overhaul. same goes for derek's one. but it's ur decision, and his. =)

it's hard that honda engines will have problems. it's up to each individual to trust and believe the mech. cos some mechs will just anyhow say overhaul and the problem will be solved.

and... don't always stick to the same mech. thats what i feel. go to 2-3 mechs at least and stay with them. get all 3 opinions b4 deciding on what to do.

in all, i say CBR is still a good bike. if not, u won't see it go into it's 12th or 13th year birthday. haha~

rhema83:

yyeah man! i agree with you! back then, i also won't sell my bike cheap back then. really took care in maintaining it. all those idiots want cheap and good. no such thing. unless they are lucky. but well, guess the new owner of my bike is THAT lucky.... HAHA. no choice, need to quickly let it go to get my new ride~~ =D

u spent the money to replace the same thing or all money is spent on diff parts??

if u change the part like rectifier for many times within a year..

then the problem dun lie on the rectifier..

check the coil.. check the wiring..

there are some things that spoilt due to other factors..

like fuel pump..

not onli the relay will spoilt the fuel pump..

even fuel filter oso will spoilt it..

that y i ask honam to change his filter when his fuel pump spoilt that time..

Old bike = more problems. It is natural. Be prepared. A $4.3k R model will eventually cost you about $6k because of the money you are going to spend fixing problems that appeared due to previous owner's negligence, wear and tear, and old age. Not to forget the tempting Yoshimura exhaust and new paintjob.

People like to advertise bikes as "never gone on track". But I rather get a track-going but "never crashed" bike, because a track-worthy bike cannot be neglected by the owner. There cannot be any worn part that is not replaced. If not, the owner is toying with his own life. Track = abused is a misconception. Unfortunately, most track-goers won't sell their bikes for what most people call "cheap" because of the amount of care they give to their bikes. For example, my CBR may look stock, but I am not going to give it up for less than $4.8k because I sank way over $6k into it.

Choosing the CBR is a good decision.

Hmmm,seems very confusing.

i tot i could juz get a CBR and use it for a year before getin my CL2.

but u guys sae till so jia lat. scared liao..

so wat would u all recommend in geting for a 2A bike?

my budget oso not much, probably around 5k oni..

of course factor in overhaul la..... its also part of the cost of maintaining the bike.

u're lucky that ur frd did the overhaul for u.

Correct me if I'm wrong but its recommended that u service ur eng after 10 yrs, particularly top overhaul + change piston rings and all other kinda seals.

u think derek and me nuthing to do and too much $$, so go and overhaul eng??? haha

my freaking conrod and crankshaft spoil, that's y overhaul. Since already strip the eng bare, service the inside parts also rite.... In a way, related to temp prob also and piston ring wearing off. U want, i can show u the spoiled crankshaft and conrod; i kept it.

yo! if u afraid of potential probs with the bike, better not get a CBR.. I can guarantee u there will be lotsa probs. It comes with buying an old bike.

Advice is to steer clear of anything more than 10 yrs old.

My expenses on my CBR is abt 20-30% of the price of a new CL2 bike... & that's for 7mths of riding it.

On hindsight, i wouldnt have bought this bike. But then again, if i wasnt riding a CBR, wouldnt have met all this gr8 ppl in this thread. :cheer:

u really want to buy, wait till next Jan can? I sell to you~

i already overhaul my engine, piston ring, etc etc.... save u the trouble. haha

i never regret buying a CBR......only regret sending it that PUss* Mech.........ruin up my love!!!

don't generalise hor!

my previous bike no problems ok!!! =p

u sure u spent 20-30% of the price of a new cl2 bike? a new cl2 bike costs about 18k. u're saying u spent $4500 on ur bike while riding it for 7mths? tok c*** lah kalam!! wahahhaa~

if that's really the case, then u got urself a really bad deal man. and, since u already sink so much into it, i say u ride it till COE ends lah... that way, ur depreciaiton better than when u sell at a much lower price...

ali_baba:

eh! forget about the difference ah~ u're not riding a new bike. if u are, then get fully-syn. ure riding an old bike. the engine and internal parts all worn out. everything loose liao. get thicker EO. protect ur engine parts. getting too thin EO might be good for racing and track days, but it doesn't protect ur pistons and such, etc.

and, depending on how well maintained ur bike is, if u use fully-syn, u might encounter EO dripping from ur bike every morning. lol

so, i feel, new bikes use fully-syn all the way. old bikes... stick to thicker EO. don't use fully-syn. just wasting ur money.

spark plugs CAN be changed w/o taking the fairing... but... NB... the trouble u'll go thru is so much more than taking apart ur fairing.... haha

It depends . Cheap doesnt mean good and ex doesnt mean not good. overall it the same.

What do i mean? Ok look, if you buy the bike which is cheap, but inside veri jia lat le, so when you servicing here and there, eventually it will cost you the same for a bike where the other bike shop quote you.

As for mi, bought it 5.5 k for machine. Cost me about 5.8k on the road... Riding for about nearly two yrs, no problem expect the fuel pump and the wheel bearing.

All depending whether you 'Heng' or 'Sway'. If you bought it from someone or the previous owner whom you know, better still, sell you cheap and he will also tell you where the problem lie in that bike

For mine, I bought it form the bike shop at Ubi. Even thougth it's slightly expensive, but i glad it's doesnt give me a big headache all the time.

If you intend to get your CL2 bike the moment you get your license, then no point buying a CBR (or a 2A bike for that matter). Just ride your 2B bike for another year and go straight to CL2. Save yourself time and money. :deal:

$5k is plenty. You can get a good CBR for that price. My CBR machine price was only $4350. I admit I spent altogether over $6k, but that is because I am really quite "on" about track. If I just wanted to fix problems but not improve performance, I think I could have stopped at $5k. So don't worry.

Buying my Fireblade was a beautiful mistake. The mistake is that I didn't expect the previous owner to neglect the bike so much. But it is beautiful once I fixed it up and made it into my baby.

You will be surprised at how much fun, excitement and satisfaction a 12-year-old 400cc sportsbike can give you. I learnt a lot while riding my Fireblade. I am definitely a happy rider.

just peeved off that the package includes alot of money and inconvenience.
