hi anyone can tell me wad is the top speed of fly? If I ride expressway everyday from pasir ris to tuas? (40km). can the tank last at least 2 days? How is the maintenanec like? The spare part price like x9? and what tire do you guys recommanded and the price? when ride in between car got any difficuity? or so easy like cubs?

If I'm not wrong. FC is 38km/l stated. But practicallity should be about 32km/l

 

Maintenance is simple. Engine oil every 3000km. oil filter every 6000km

Belt and rollers every 12000 km. Gear oil every 12000km.

 

Slightly cheaper than x9 I think?

 

Tires, choose Michelin pilot sports or metzeler me 7 teen

specs says top speed 98km/hr...

 

OTR as of what dealer say is $5.5K.. I went to see myself, the mirrors seem to be a little way too wide. BUt i guess that can be fixed by putting aftermarket mirrors? I not sure on this.

 

Currently contemplating between fly and runner..

Well, Autoscooter rider will usually goes to the 3 common bike shop in kallang avenue to service their scoots.

 

My prices I have is almost 5 years ago. Needless to say prices have increase over the years. Euros back then was 1.5sgd to 1 euro. Now is 2 sgd to 1 euro.

 

Fly 150 Engine is the same as the vespa LX150.

 

The engine is around for more than 10 years. So The oem manufacturer can sell the leader 150 aircool engine belt on the free market now.

 

So this is the basic break down for the parts for the 12K servicing.

 

Belt. $75~120. Depending on brands and make. U can get japanese make, piaggio original and malossi or polini. jap Oem is the cheapest. malossi is the most ex.

Japanese make is the similar quality as piaggio original. malossi and polini make the best belt but also the most ex. For modded scoot, it give slightly better performance. For stock scoot, it will last longer

 

U clips variator drive plate. U need 3 of them. Original is fine. Olden days is 3 dollars each. Now is maybe $5 or $6 each (Well euros rise over the years and piaggio also increae price over the years.)

 

Variator rollers. U need six. Olden days is $6 each. Now usually comes in a package. Chance is nowadyas is package. maybe $40~$50 a set. use original if you don't want to have a different feel on the transmission. After market will alter the characteristic. Like faster pick up but lower top speed. Or higher top speed with lower pickup. I personally have tried dr pulley. The feel is ok but may wear ur variator faster. And they cost $65.

 

So belt, rollers and U clip is for transmission. Typical service charge for opening Trans cover is $25~$40 depending where you go.

 

Then come the Oils and filter.

 

U need 1 liter of oil. Piaggio engine can be sensitive on oils. Personal recommendation is use withe Mobil 1, Esso 4t Gold, maxima extra, maxima ultra, Motul, redline , amsoil. Is cost is ur concern Mobil or esso is fine. Try to get a oil that ends with a 50. Eg 5w50 or 15w50.

 

It's a thicker oil. U will need a thicker oil because the engine is aircooled. U will need a slightly better protection. Esso and Mobil oil is available in most bike shops. And the cheapest of all the oil that I have mentioned.

 

Oil filter. Use only Piaggio original. 8 years ago, It cost $25. Maybe now cost more? $35

 

Gear oil. This one is cheap maybe cost u $4 to change as the amount is only 90ml.

 

Air filter. It's usually washable. But if want to change, can change to malossi red spong filter. Usually cost 20+ (I think.) Do not get the malossi cone filter unless u are into modding bike. Once change cone filter, U need to do tons of adjustment and is not easy.

 

Change plugs. Please us NGK CR8B. Unless u are willing to spend. Stock plugs is adequet for normal riders. Iridiums are good, but they are much much more expensive. Normal Plugs is $5. Iridium is $15

 

This is the basic summary of the 12K servicing.

Depending on conditions, U might need to top up battery water, Change brake fluid or change tires. Top up batt water can do urself. 1 bottle of batt water is $2. Tires, range from $55 to $90 per tires. usually change 1 year to 1.5years depending on wear conditions. Brake fluid change is 1 bottle of brake fluid. less than $10. Service charge for change of brake fluid may be $10~$20 depends on where u go.

 

Brake pads. Fly 150 is a front disc brake and rear drum brakes. Drums will last a long time. the way I look at it, u might need to change maybe after 2nd year. But do check it every servicing. The cost of a new front brake pad is maybe like $35~$60 depending on brand. Rear drum is usually $65~$85. Seriously the rear drum pad is a pretty big chuck of object., that kinda justify the price. Also It last very long. But do adjust it when necessary, especially at 12K servicing or when u feel the brake is not working well.

 

In summary.

 

3K change oil

6K Change oil and oil filter. Maybe take out the air filter and wash

9K change oil

12K follow the 12k servicing

 

After reading all this, It might seems mind boggling. But that's the basic for all scoot. Normal Bike may be worst. And it's comfirm slightly easier and cheaper than runner as it does not have a radiator, radiator fan, Thermostat and water pump.

read tyhat the top speed for the fly is 95kmph which is kinda anyway the bikes function aint to run that fast..very pretty and simple bike

Piaggio bikes always have a habit of understating their top speed.

I think the fly is good for 110. And max out at 120.

i'm enjoying my fly at the moment... but i have difficulties putting it on main stand.. think its just me..

 

Just put ur whole body weight on the main stand. left hand grip left handle bar.

Right hand grip rear bar. Then pull 45 degree backward.

 

After a few times, get used to the momentum. It will be effortless.

I finally did it after getting blisters and blue black all over my hand.. haha..

 

Anyway, first servicing is at 1000km right? Running in period must maintain at wat speed uh? I just hit 90km/hr just now.. Shouldnt be a problem right?
