Hi guys,

I need some help. Please give me as much advice as possible. I am thinking of getting a scooter for transport ( home to work daily ). Looking for a cheap and reliable bike. After read this thread, i actually decided to get the fly. But this morning, went to AS Poon, but was told by the the salesman that fly is not a good bike. Very expensive to maintance and very unstable. He recommanded me the susuki hayate and told me this bike 10 times better than the fly. He even throw in a lot of things like box and raincoat.

I am not sure now la. I am looking for a cheap reliable trouble free bike that i can ride to buy food and maybe pillion my wife for movies. So please help.

THank you

I experienced the same sentinments initially, but decided to ask around, visit different bike shops and check out the bikes and hear from the sales guy, after a while, you will be able to realise what is right for you.

Like me...i believe brembo can attest to that. I keep sms-ing him, asking this asking that, visit WYP, ASP and HME, check the net and read forums and finally decided on FLY, because the ultimate decision lies in yourself.

How i come to a decision on getting the FLY:

Checklist:

1. Scooter convenience-twist and go, check!

2. Low FC and durable, check!

3. Cheap and affordable, check!

Cheers

We can only give suggustions. cannot decide for you :p

I think u should have read about the bike info.

So u should know the specs and detail and the what not.

To help you abit. To share with you.

I am a autoscoot rider all the way. Been riding autoscoot since I got my 2B. 6 years later, still autoscoot. ever thought of getting a gear bike. But eventually still stay with autoscoot.

I have people telling me how good vara is. how good Phantom is. I have website saying how good a tw200 is. I have read from fourms (not just sbf) saying how good a particular bike is. I even have people saying that with my height (185cm) I should take X9 or scrambler.

But still in my heart. I only take autoscoot that is runner size or smaller.

The smallest I go is skipper size.

What matter most is what you really like and enjoy riding that particular bike.

The worst scenario is buying a bike base on people's opinion and end up not liking and enjoying the bike you just purchase.

To add salt to it. The bike that everyone say is good broke down in just 3 months. even got warranty. I can garantee you will curse and swear.

No bike in this world can garantee it won't break down. There are always lemons among even the world's best bike. This is the just part and parcel of ownership of almost everything.

Alt least,. should you new bike breaks down. You won;t curse and swear that much as it's a bike you really likes.

In a event if you will to ask me if I would by Fly 150. If you ask 2 years ago, I will say yes if it's launched 2 years back.

Now, my priority change. I want something more. So Fly 150 is out at the moment.

My wants now is EFI, semi off road capable suspension (translate to tougher than normal shocks). Helmet bay larger than runner. and yet still smaller than runner in size. I also want flat floor board. Twin rear gas shocks. And Yamaha R1 style meter. naked handle bar. And I'm waiting for the test model to come in. It won't be cheap. Model type not tested by anyone yet. But at least I'm happy and I like the look.

Coming back to fly 150.

2 years back. It have all the things I want. It look balanced.

The outlook of it. WIth flat floor board, with box and still it look flushed, and don't look wierd. The lines just flow along. It's very hard to add a top box to any bikes. And yet still look nice. So far, only piaggio have done it well. Even phantom with box don't look out of place. But one glance, you can see is a add on. Fly 150? It looks like it's design together with the box from the begining. And yet without box, it still look ok.

Other stuff you should worry about is spare parts.

This is a piaggio bike. The 3 so call top rated scooter specialise bike shop. The can all do piaggio bikes pretty well. Part is garanteed abundant.

It have the same engine as the LX150. belts, roller, variators. tires. All got stock. If you want after market racing parts. There are malossi and polini to choose from. There's is everything for it locally. Nothing to worry about.

The best part. It's brought in by Piaggio Singapore.

Now the big bomb. Does the Suzuki Hayate have at least half of what is mentioned aboved?

Also. I don't not sure if the suzuki hayate is brought in by Guan Hoe (Local agent for Suzuki) All these while Guan hoe seems to only bother with bikes that is 400cc and above.

Hi comet,

Thank you so much for the advice. I really appreciate you for taking time to write what you wrote. Ya.. deciding what bike to buy is always a problem for me. my first bike was a scooter also it's piaggio's dna. not a bad bike but i bought it 2nd hand and after a year it just give a lot of problem and my 2nd bike is the ducati monster . Love the bike a lot so much so that it's under used. So decided to sell it off. Now i just want something cheap to use daily rain or shine. That is why i decided on a 2b scooter.

Anyway, keep your advice in mind and hopefully the bike i choose will service me well.

Thanks

Dna is a nice bike actually, was one of the choice when I shop for my very first bike. But when GF (OC now) also want to be the pillion. Putting a top box on DNa seems out of place. So my first bike was a runner 200. the very first vxr200.

I hate buying second hand bike cos u will never really know what the ex owner did to it. If it's still good, the owner won't sell it in the very first place.

 John....these good people here, do they know who you are working for?

Well most of them should know by now...and I dun have intention to hide that. Cus end of it all, like Comet bro says, the decision lies in yourself.

For me, I am impartial. Vespas are great scooters, no doubt...but you dun hear me saying Xevos are great selling scooters cus they dun.

and that beverly :p if you read the SH300 thread, i wrote some impartial comments....

I believe if a scooter is good, its good...if its no good...then its no good.

always agreed with comet bro, no matter how great a scooter is, even the most reliable scooter have lemons...heard about some magnetic coil problems with some Silverwings? Even scooters from the great "H" have problems.

It is never a perfect world ;)

Honestly - I think Brembo has been a "fair player" from his posts. In which case - it doesn't reallly matter who he works for...does it? in fact - if you meet him in person - you will find that he is a really helpful chap!

wah lau brothers...dun side track leh, this thread is not titled "Brembo - is he a fair and helpful person?"

Anyway Benz bro...as sms-ed...if you dont feel safe on the location of the erp unit, you could just ask the mechs to leave it hanging around the mirrors, then do a good bracket with Seng Kwang. Cost about $80 but totally worth it. The IU location on my Fly is not the best place...especially when i have to drill the plastics.
