Question: you have a low rpm/max torque with sprocket changed to maximize low end pick up. How does it fair on the expressway way then...i know i'll be able to pick up fast but does it take longer to climb up to 80-90km/h. I usually ride ard that speed to be safe.

Question: I have had squeaky rear brakes for months now since changing to new ones, any idea how to remove the squeak. I want to be able to diy my brake caliper and wash but don't know how.

I tuned my engine for maximum low and mid range torque, so with the highway sprockets my pickup is vastly improved since I don't run out of revs nor do I need to change gear. The single banger just pulls and pulls and before I knew it I was overtaking Phantoms on the PIE uphill like nobody's business. Torque-biased tuning means my engine is very happy to do work uphill or hauling heavy cargo like me (American sized kitten :3). I do my top speed runs uphill, I don't like over-revving.

Riding in low revs forever like this also means one other benefit - I can race away in Devil's Bend and Lim Chu Kang time attacks using the torque for hauling ass though tight switchbacks and hairpins (since torque = immediate acceleration, no need to hunt for gears or RPM) and at the end of it all I got a fuel economy number of 47km/l. At full torque all the way doing touge with a very quick and well handled Hyosung Comet!

This number may be "impossible" to most, but that's what success is about. Setting out to do the impossible. The Phantom engine does not have variable valve timing, it's a 2 valve SOHC. It is not efficient at all at high revs. So make it a proper classic single banger and reap the benefits :D

Okay, my daelim was built as a DOHC where Rev are preferred. But with Higher revs come higher higher fuel consumption and so far my bike has been only giving me a consistent 31-33km/l that sucks big time when know your phantom is saving you 47km/l !!!

The phantom is pretty easy to tune whereas compared to mine, firstly, we would have to take off the entire fairing that comes as one piece, secondly it runs by Fuel injection and a built in ECU that controls the spray of the FI, thirdly i don't think anyone in my whole bike thread has done any tuning for the bike at all...

My class 2 is next year feb, if all goes well i will want to rid of this bike and get a class 2 bike instead.

You are right - the only way a smaller CC Hyosung Comet can keep up with me last night is because its engine is designed to run high revs and that automatically means higher than average fuel consumption.

Sadly the only way to tune an EFI is to do it by software and that can be costly. I'm not sure if its worthwhile to see if a Daelim ECU can be hooked up to a Power Commander or something like that.

I of course play cheat on the Phantom by going opposite to what everyone else does - drop the revs up the torque make good use of high comp and the mass and stroke of a single bigger piston. Performance mods not just make things much more fun, they can increase riding comfort as well!

Wah kaylan you change your nick! btw are you going to stick to phantom all the way?

SBF Cameron highland trip, I signed up already, any company from TPY thread?

Lol bike also must change name. Doesn't act like Phantom so I name it super 2 lol!

This bike probably can last me for 5-10 years. Definitely a money saver, time saver and head turner. Besides from the way I ride and customise my bikes there would be totally no resale value in the near future, since it'll look like something out of Mad Max. Might as well be a marriage for life LOL.

Cameron - nah, bored of M'sia so I even ditched the passport. Will play Need for Speed if I want to go 'touring' lol

I really admire your spirit to keep the bike for so long, i wouldn't be able to keep for so long..especially one with a fairing, i shouldn't have committed myself so heavily into this bike after i got my 2b.

go touring la, enjoy the mou tans! and scenary

Its strange how I pick my bikes - wanted a Phantom since 2003, because I sat on it and felt very at home. But Dad said "young rider must have power! Y125z!!!"

So that's the first bike I got after I got rid of my 125Z in March (because everything koyak already). I realised I never really took care of the Yamaha because it's not "my bike". Very good bike! But I didn't choose it. No emotional connection.

Why Phantom? "Open" design, easy to customise. Can learn DIY tuning.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got forced to do some emergency maneuvers on the highway thanks to some Jaguar jamming his brakes while in the middle of lane changing. This big dinosaur can dance!

No horsepower (silly short stock gearing is for city riding) but good torque, easier to generate max acceleration than Y125Z, which like all 2 strokes, are sitting ducks if we can't hit the 'supercharged' optimal revs at 6-7K RPM.

There's a trick to making a Phantom fly off at the traffic light - launch the bike at 1000RPM and let the heavy piston do the rest! Totally fun and unexpected.

Guess it's the fascination with the little details, and the ability to run flat out without risk of killing myself is why I like the humble old machines. Drill holes here and there, turn one screw, suddenly become more powerful :3

Can show me R1s, Blackbirds, etc and I'm like meh. Not my kind of bike. I like AK47s - simple, reliable, functional and pack a punch :D ... and I got my Phantom from more or less scrap condition. Old lady deserves a second and better life :D

Wa lao, X rated sia :D

Street fighter conversion KRR is actually one of my favourites! Pity I can't practically own one (I'll destroy the bike in no time lol)

Last weekend Thomas got the fairing's back already. NSR back in decent secretarial blouse and skirt.

LOL.

Btw, this coming Sunday got Need for Speed outings in the morning (Newton), afternoon (Changi) and night (Tuas).

Come clear some carbon if free (nabil and I are co-hosting), for a stress free working week :D

Lunch provided some more!

lol joking! Yeah with pillion on the chain angle is somehow changed and usually there is a loss of pickup from that.

Try increasing preload when carrying passenger, to decrease that 'sag'.

Some bikes like Y125Z handle better with box and pillion at the back. That bike is so light it feels like fishtailing esp w/o fairing.

but the wind will reduce as there is no fairing to counter it.

Have tried riding 125Z at high speeds in M'sia with and without fairing.

With fairing -

Bike is very stable up to 160kph (can reach that speed with pillion some more!). Air resistance is reduced as fairing diverts air around the rider's legs and lower body. Can ride one handed, as the steering is very 'planted', as though there's a spoiler in front.

Without fairing -

Actually became slower because of wind resistance from rider's legs, and did not dare to go above 110. Felt very 'shaky' without the aero parts.
