Unless one of them have an engine that was recently overhauled proper, it's just a waste of time.

I just rebuilt a GK76A late last year... http://www.xs4all.nl/%7Eernstmul/images/yahoo/54.gif

Even if there is a difference in sound, most riders probably wouldn't notice as the variance is gradual over time.

Idling above 1K rpm sounds a little strange.

1) What is the mileage?

2) Have you done anything to the engine / carburetors since you had her?

idling runs abit once in awhile but aft tune back, its ok.. so will you be getting another gixxer?

in the end, who knows whose bike's engine got problem?? lol...:thumb:

What is your mileage? Have you checked your timing and your valves?

I suspect, given the age and assumed mileage (>100k) your timing chain and valves clearances may need some attention. Depending on how you or previous owners ride, it may be good to check your piston rings too.

I was looking for another GK76 but can't seem to find any that requires minimal work. Currently rebuilding something else from the same stables, need a couple more weeks to get it right.

ok, after rode bike for 1/2hr, N gear, rpm jumping around @ 800-1k+ abit, like coughing... what does it mean?

how much to do valves clearances, always see pple post but dont know what it is..

timing chain just check or gota change? seriously, i never really do much servicing for this bike after i took over.

anybody can recommend me where to do valves clearances? how much will it cost?

K&T good? or where?

Hey Ben,

Most GK76s I came across have the same issues as yours.

Assuming your mileage is >100K, and your electrical system is stable.

Check your floats. While you're at it, may as well check your needles and jets and clean your float bowls and carburetors I would have the carburetors taken out and replace the above along with the seals. May not be necessary but since you're already taking it off, you may as well.

This should mitigate your unstable idling.

For a 4 stroke, keeping your timing in check is vital. A good pair of ears would be able to tell how bad is the situation.

Late last year when I got my GK76; based on the sound, I just tore the engine apart and started replacing parts. No point skimping on such stuffs, since the engine is coming apart, you may as well take the opportunity to conduct a proper replacement exercise.

Not really, but it's gonna be hard to work on without a proper place.

I wouldn't worry too much about the carbs; what's more worrying is the timing.

bro yoshitel, is it possible to just take out the exhaust, heat it up, then use air gun to blow all carbon out?? when i used to ride sp, they did it.

Er...

Yes it is possible.

You'll need to grind down the welds at the seams; which is a walk in the park. But welding them back is tricky, you'll also have to chrome plate the pipe thereafter - special equipment here, not something you could do at home.

When you say SP, I suppose you mean an NSR 150? If so, that's a 2 stroke bike burning oil in the combustion chamber, hence it MAY be helpful to use a loose flame to remove carbon deposits - that's old school and may not yield much a benefit for your bike given it's a 4 stroke and the trouble you need to put yourself through to achieve that benefit.

Prepare your rings and gaskets before you start or you'll be looking at prolonged downtime.

Make sure your rings are fuel and heat proof.

i know there's 4 type of o-ring inside carb but what's the price, you know?

I got mine when I was still residing in the UK at around S$1 each, but they sold them in packs of 25.

You might just be able to purchase them online.

You'll need 1 set of the following for each carburetor.

1) 10mm x 1mm

2) 4.5mm x 1mm

3) 10.5mm x 1.5mm

4) 11.5mm x 1.5mm

Using loose flame and direct it into the pipe?

Wouldn't that burn your exhaust packing?

An easier way is to take your bike out for a hard ride... I should be done in a fortnight's time, keep up with me as I put my new setup to the test and I'm sure your pipes will be de-carbonized. Just don't try to draft, cause you'll find carbon spots all over your bike and yourself.

so cheap?? erm...

what's your ride now? rg250?

Mikuni doesn't sell replacements for OE products and Suzuki genuine parts cost a whole lot more. If you know where to look, Vitton aren't that expensive.

Too bad I used up all I had left rebuilding my last GK76 or I can let you have the whole lot; no point keeping them as they all have a shelf life and my place has been growing smaller over the years.

Hmm...

What makes you think it's an RG?
