Guys, have a problem (this is my first post), advice from experts needed please.

Bought a GSXR 400 this morning, it was okay. Now bike cannot start although neutral light on panel still quite bright. Got a few possibilities, but not sure and don't wanna be ketok by shop.

My battery is about 6 mths old, I heard that to charge the battery for GSXR, the RPM must be at least 5,000. Is that true, because I turned off my engine about 5 times over about 30km and didn't exceed 5,000 alot.

Previous owner told me that the wiring got exposed during rain and kena the fuse last time, so the fuse under the seat was changed. I checked the fuse, but all looks fine (no breaks).

Or is it a problem with the spark plug?

Really don't know, any input appreciated. Quite sian, first day already got problem. Thanks.

P.S. is this in the right thread, if not I ask somewhere else

When u try e starting the bike, is tere any cranking sound? Sounded like what vtect had said, your engine kill switch might be on. Since there's no problem with the fuse u mentioned, and front panel indicator are working, shouldn't be any problem with the fuse.

u might wanan check if battery is weak or not.

To check whether is it battery related, check the followings:

- whether horn is weak

- whether headlight is dim

- whether cranking sound is soft

was at planet for the first time, very very good service, joked alot with ah chong haha.

Changed my sprokets and turns out that i have a fouled plug too. Bike runs real smooth now. Only left with my tyres and suspension to change... where to find the 400 bucks to change it sigh.

Anyone able to give a loan :cheer:

Thank you all my fellow bros for the advice - the rectifier was not working (it coverts ac to dc, so battery couldn't charge).

My mechanic and hsp_89 both confirm this (he kena the same thing in 2003, pg 13 of this thread lol). Bike working fine now, thanks to all for help.

Ok sorry I always got something to chip in..

But sometimes it's not water, engine oil that's killing your plugs.

Your plugs would seem to be fine when you do the wet header thingy.

But you'd still get the chopper bike sound and feel.

Either way, it means ur carb could be out of tune, it could mean your carb is chocked with dirt and so forth.

Try installing a fuel line filter as well if your tank has been around.. err.. since you're in secondary school.

hi, whats a fuel line filter? where can i fix it (shop)?

i sent my bike to wash carb..... hope it can solve my problem..... then the shop insist on changing the air filter........ i say no need i just changed...... aiya......... $ fly...

dear bros,

can seek your advices again? hahaa i always ask alot.....

the two metal tubes on each side of our bikes (i think guide wind in one or something). are they suppose to be connected to somewhere? i just got my bike back, reach home then see that the left side not connected to anywhere, right side in touching distance with a rubber tube further inside the bike (but not connected).

will there be any problem if i leave them as they are?

many thanks again bros...

They are poser RAM air, almost purely cosmetic purposes. In a proper ram air system, it leads to your air box if im not wrong, but for our bikes, it doesnt lead anywhere, just into the empty area near our carbs under the tank.

Actually the one on the right does lead to the air box. The one on the left is a dummy which is there just to make both sides look the same. But being such an old bike i guess the ram air effect doesn't really matter that much.

u might wan to check if there's any air leakage in e flow. most likely ard e manifold area. hairline crack is enough to cause the prob. can use soap water to check.

maybe u can try other bike shop since e one u visit cannot solve ur prob, only waste more money. eg. washing ur carb n tuning.

what do u mean by foul plug symptoms?

is it when starting bike, the idling sound is weak, or the chopper idling effect?subsequently things will get normal after bike get heated up?

there r times after starting up the bike, especially warm start, the idling sound can be quite weak initially. it's not a big problem anyway. it's quite normal. after a while the idling will be back to normal.

otherwise, i would suggest u go back to the shop which u had service and tell them your problem, at least some explaination or make a fuss.
