Hello G4 riders.. why is the cost of a G4 so much different then the costs of other 400cc sportsbikes?

Maintaining issues, how much do u spend each month inclusive of petrol and what engine oil do u use (the bike needs 3 bottles, right)?

Thanksssss!!

Its cheaper coz its an old sport bike most of it are more then 10yrs old..

Personally I feel it doesn't cost as much as maintaining an RVF I'm not sure abt CBR 400 Fireblade. For me I did my own maths...

GSX 400 costing abt 1.5K-2.5K, Old bike comfirm got prob overhull it 1.5K to 2K.

do other repairs = an old bike frame wif new engines, brakes etc...

In all a GSX will cost much less then an RVF or Fire blade coz they too are 2nd hand bikews and we can't gurentee if they are prob free add their bike cost let say RVF abt 10 K + (repairs like overhull) = definately cost more $ then GSX in long run.

Plus GSX is a gd temp bike if u r planning to get a class 2 bike

For petrol, I use only shell v-power or caltex platinum, my engine oil is motul.

I spend around $100+ slightly abit more but less then $200 for servicing my bike every 1500 - 2500 clicks. Norm I change my engine oil 3 bottles of motul sometime castrol R4 around $19 to $21 per bottle so dats abt 60 dollars, change my spark plugs denso irdium I'm not so sure wif the spelling in total all 4 of them, clean my carb. Every 3 mths I'll do a full service including de carbonize my pipe, clean my valve, blog etc. and every 6mth, change my brake oil. So far I hv not done a full service yet coz i have not hit 3mths riding this GSX so far I have no regrets buying it. Can save up for my R6 in 3yrs time when I'm 25 cheaper insurance

thks bear.

and to all, yeah there aint no street legal exhaust for this ride as far as i noe.

what i am sellin is the yoshi race can for gsxr400s.

to the best of my knowledge, this is the only manufacturer who made aftermarkets specifically for this bike. one exhaust only. though i've seen others mod microns or akras to fit.

this is NOT a full system. to what i noe, there was nvr a full sys made for gsxr400s

of coz, i might be wrong. :D

sellin this piece of beauty for 300 smackeroos only!

any lesser and i'll rather keep it.

pm me if interested.

cheers lads

Helo People,

Those stuff are on my K4, 600. Thanks Arcfire (Chris)

G4 just never dies, think coming to the 3rd generation of riders if consider when I first started this thread.

IMO, getting a cheap 1.5K GSXR and giving the engine a good overhaul at 1K, you can bring the engine condition up on par with those of RVF and CBR.

I know of a GSXR rider who spend > 1K overhaul his engine and his bike pulls all the way to 240km/hr, the engine feels "tighter" and smoother also.

In all, you can get a "great" bike at maybe 2k - 2.5k?

GSXR 400 have some weak areas such as old wiring harness prone to short circuit but it's always those same few connections..lol..

The engine is in a cradle frame and if you go down..your engine case sure crack and that is $120 for either side..

Becos of it's long wheelie base, It's a more stable bike..

You ppl can ask me or any of the old riders abt this bike..

i know there is one more system for G4... its MUZZY system... its has full system too... quite costly too... not street legal... my friend is using it now... the sound is SUPER POWERFUL.... more power than R1 sound... the bike haven reach.. the sound has already reach le... the sound is like evo car open pipe sound...

GSXR rulez!!!

Just get the filter from the original suzuki dealer near regina.

Btw, one look at the long list you put and I know its impossible that the bikes a G4... PC3 USB. Us old carby bikes have no use for a PC3 much less USB version. Where do you want to plug the usb into 0_0. The closest to a PC for us would by dynojet. But such fancy toys really dont help these old bikes much.

Save the money for your cl2 or overhaul the engine, clear your pipes and you are good to go :)

BTW to that guy who plans on spending 250 every 3 months to service your bike... Dont do it. Even cl2 bikes dont spend that much.

Typically, brake fluid lasts you AT LEAST 1 year, and it is not recommended that you service your carbs ( or full service in your context) every 3 months. Infact, it might do more harm then good. If it aint broke, dont fix it. Carbs only need servicing when you feel that you are losing power or smoothness in your acceleration (comes with experience).

I pride myself to be someone who takes good care of his bike (spent close to 2k in 3 months of getting my g4). Iridium spark plugs are kinda moot on our bikes, our ignition system etc simply do not support the capabilities of the premium plugs. Its like putting 2 gig ram on a pentium 166. Also, spark plugs do NOT need to be changed every 3 months or even 6 months regardless of what the mechanic or overly phobic friends tell you. I have friends running on the same plugs for almost a year before it gave up on him.

The reason for plugs fouling are plenty but 2 major reasons are wear and tear of cable, resulting in water getting in and that your gaskets and seals are worn, resulting in the plugs being flooded by petrol. To curb the 2nd issue, it is advised that you do not "warm up" your bike. Instead, take it slow, short shifting for perhaps 500m-1km before u start riding the bike hard.

Here is a basic maintainence schedule that would serve you well:

Engine Oil : 2500-3500km (Semi or Full syn)

~1000km for mineral.

Spark Plugs : Get them checked every 3 months (spray water on headers). Advisable to change every year or so.

Air Filter : ~10000km

Oil Filter: Every 2 oil change

Battery: Change when needed, typically about once a year ( if you batt goes kaput and u are using Yusa batts, your electrical system is suspect)

Brake Pads : Typically once a year (beyond that it starts to "harden" and will lose effectiveness even though it looks thick and all)

Carbs : About once a year or as and when needed. ( If you find your carbs gng out of sync very often +- 6months, your jets may need to be replaced)

Note: Those who just got their bikes and serviced their carbs, it is advisable to service again soon as sometimes the tanks get rusty after being empty for sometime. The rust gets dislodged by the petrol you pump and goes into your carbs if there is no filter

Brake Fluid: This is unknown to me, I fully bleed it everytime I get a bike and so far I have not had to do it again within a year of that. Some bikes i know of are still using the fluid the bike came with. Thats like 3 years plug?

Coolant : Every 10000km, get it flushed and changed.

Hope this helps some of u guys out.

Things done so far:

Brand new rear suspension, new rubbers in carbs, serviced carbs, double bubble windscreen, voltmeter, Pilot Sport tyres, Did o ring + VAZ sprokets, front brake pump, gaskets + waterpump oil seal, Maxima CoolAid, 2nd hand rear hugger, 2nd hand front brake disc, Fizz Power brake pads front and back, 2nd hand front and back rims, Yusa battery, Reconditioned 2nd hand carbs by Planet, Front sticker number plate, front wheel bearings, new clutch plates, fortuna paintwork sponsored by spastic driver, Keitin tank pad.

Need sugar mommy for : Hel brake lines and top end overhaul.

Oh btw orlando, reading through your post again, realised that you are using your 2b maintainence schedule on your gsx. Thats suicidal unless you a very rich..

"cleaning your valve" that would mean a valve clearance, 200 dollars job.

"cleaning your block" That would be porting. At least 1k if i aint wrong cuz people usually change their piston rings to go with it.

To do that every 3 months... ouch.

Hell yeah but i'd sure like to take over the bike from him when he sells it.... hahaha

I don't even spend that much on servicing... though the amount i spent in my 3 yrs of riding it can buy me another gsxr with money to spare for an overhaul and a nice dinner for 2.......

Even for eo, semis can last for about 3000km while fully syn can last to about 5000km. I've got frens running 8000-9000km on fully syn before they change.

Plugs i change them when i service my carbs and thats about once a year or 10mth.... change my air filter along with it. Plugs can last a very long time if your carbs are properly tuned. I heard a story about a guy riding super4 got fed up with his vtec and sold it cos his plugs had to be changed after 15000km.....

Coolant flush once a year is ok. Unless you've got a real dirty one, flush frequently for the 1st year and subsequently once a year would do.

Valve clearances should be done if you've got the money, preferbly with an overhaul to save on the labour charges.
