Hey ya guys , just checked in the ICA website and realise that Singaporeans with Biometric passport need not register to go thru the BIKES lane? Has anyone gone thru the BIKES lane witout anyone pre enrolment? thanks?

If you have a biometric equipped passport (one page on your passport is hard plastic, pink, and has your picture on it), then you can just enter the BIKES lane without worry.

If your passport is not the abovementioned, it's most probably the older passport type that you have, and you have to visit the ICA office at Woodlands/Tuas 2nd Link to register your thumbprints.

This method is also how Malaysians register to be able to use the BIKES lane.

As for foreigners, I'm not too sure about that - enquire with the ICA office for that.

BIKES lane hours

As observed on Feb 2011:

Woodlands Causeway:

- When already in the Motorcycle lane heading towards the checkpoint, keep right. Entrance is on the right when you are nearing the customs complex, and it's pretty small. Keep your eyes peeled

- Open most (if not all) of the time

- Free exit and entry for Singaporean bike riders.

- Some lanes now come equipped with dual computers - for bike rider and pillion to clear customs at one go.

Tuas 2nd Link:

- The block (i.e.: building) that is situated at the very far-end

- Only open when there's a jam (i.e. Evenings)

- Will cost Singaporean bike riders $0.50.

Payable by Cash-card (at the barrier itself), or NETS (at the ICA office if you forget your cashcard)

Woodlands Checkpoint: Returning to Singapore

The BIKES lane (on the right) is only for single riders. No machine for pillion.

There is a seperate area on the left with many scanning machines. This area has machines for both rider and pillion.

BUT it is usually closed. Probably open only during peak hours in the morning.

Question: When going through BIKES, do you need to remove helmet?

I had an experience using BIKES ... after all the clearance procedure (with helmet on), I waited at the gate and it did not open. Then a voice from the intercom came, "Remove your helmet ... faster, faster!" (That was like 6am) Then when I went through the gate, I was pulled over and the officer told me, "Don't you know you must remove your helmet?"

Then after coming back to SG, I called ICA to clarify. I was told that there is no need to remove helmet, UNLESS the custom officer instruct you to do so.

I checked the ICA website, there is no mention of removing helmet.
