Hi bros and sis, need some info. If let say at a cross junction with a U-turn sign. I intend to do a U-turn so waited at the pedestrian crossing line. When it turn green straight away do a U-turn. Is it and offence for not to wait until the vehicle has clear before I proceed?

my take is that it's ok, since the light just turn green, and vehicles approaching you won't need to slow down or jam brake.

but, you might be faulted for not stopping at the stop line instead?

let's hear what others gotta say about this. :o

I think it is an offence because the vehicles in front have the right of way. Unless there are no vehicles then its fine to do it. If do at driving school sure kenna immediate failure.

if i am not wrong, you must wait for the vehicles on the opposite to go first and wait for pedestrains to cross first. if there are no vehicles in opposite side and no one crossing then you may do a u turn.

as long as the lights are green, you can proceed. however, it is dangerous and risky doing it this way and is not advisable. it isn't an offense but you can be booked for reckless riding.

the vehicles going straight and turning left from the opposite direction has the right of way. if sway sway kenna accident after u straight away u-turn after light turn green, you are a fault and not the driver who langa into you. TP confirm will penalise you for reckless riding. This kind of case no fight. safety first, your life is at stake here. not worth saving a couple of seconds over a limb or leg or even worse your life.

If you want to know the law, here is Rule 13(2) of the Road Traffic Rules, section 140 of the Road Traffic Act Cap. 276.

A driver or rider of any vehicle making a U-turn under paragraph (1) shall —

(a) move as near as possible to the right-hand edge of the roadway;

(b) give way to any on-coming vehicle; and

© wait for a safe opportunity to complete the turn.

The statute aside, why would you want to do it? U-turns can be fairly tricky in themselves and you might take longer than you expect. Imagine if there is another rider in the oncoming direction who, not expecting to see anyone, accelerates hard when the lights turn green.
