I am going to Germany in the coming months and would like to rent a BMW for the express purpose of driving it on the Autobahn.

Can someone recommend a place where I can rent a BMW and make sure I have the right insurance.

Also, if you wanted to really go all out, which BMW would you recommend?

PM this member MS .. I think he might be able to help you

Don't need to PM me, I can share the info here.

Defabica, I don't recommend you to drive the moment you arrive in Germany. I believe you should be touching down at Frankfurt flughafen. Go to

http://www.deutschebahn.com/site/bahn/en/start.html

buy yourself an ICE ticket to your hotel and take a rest first. The 12hr flight will be very tiring. On top of that, the jetlag will be tremendous. The trains in Germany are ruthlessly punctual, so you will need to plan your trip properly. Once you touch down, follow the big 'S' signage and you will end up at the basement of the Frankfurt Airport Regional train station; Frankfurt flughafen Regional bahnhof . Take the train from Frankfurt flughafen Regional bahnhof to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (abbrev: Hbf); Hauptbahnhof means main train station. Take from there the train to your destination by following the selected instructions on your train E ticket printed in Singapore over the net. Bring along your credit card. The conductor may want to verify with your ticket. Once you reach the hauptbahnhof of your residing city, take a cab to the hotel and rest. I greatly recommend that. Be it business or leisure, I advise you to go one day in advance to recover from the jetlag.

Then go to the car rental shop. Alternatively I can recommend you:

I booked a Mercedes Benz SLK200 at Eur244 over the weekend with them. Their cars are all

Go to this website and learn the road signs.

Do not assume that every part of Autobahn is without speed limit even though it is indeed most parts without speed limit. Look for the white circle with thin black strips diagonally slashed across before you speed mindlessly.

Keep a safe following distance literally. Every 10km/h is 1 car length. Religiously follow it if you don't want to get into trouble. Give way whenever required. Drive like a gentleman. The driving style in Singapore and Malaysia will get you into deep scheisse in Germany. Don't road hog the left lane. When it is free to speed, it is very normal and absolutely legal to be overtaken by a whole group of Brits on class2 motorcycles at >300km/h. And when you are driving at >200km/h but someone demands that you give way, you must give way.

Don't ever drink and drive. If you do and get caught, good luck. And also, remember. In Singapore we keep left. In Germany we keep right. Be vigilant when you are at a junction. That's where we make the most mistakes.

Learn some German. If you really cannot communicate, look for a young person (

If you are stopped by a police, speak a language not found in Europe. Chances are you may get away with it. I've never tried it yet. But it can be a last resort. Disclaimer: Try at your own risk.

I hope these info can help you. Which part of Germany are you going to?
