[Archived - 2006] Tips and Advise Malaysia/Thailand Bike Trip

Hi to all PK and fellow riders,

I'll like to plan a riding trip to Genting, possibly to Bangkok in the near future.

Being to these places before by plane, coach, car, train but not personally on

my bike. :sweat:

Going to ride with my bunch of kakis whose taking leave from work, and break

from school.

Any lao jiaos or anyone care to share some pointers and tips for such trips?

Things like:

-> road directions

-> hazards

-> weather

-> fuel usage

-> emergency

-> etc?

thanks. :smile:

Tot the thailand insurance is not a requirement. Just fill up some import/export form then go chop passport + rm1.

cost is 220 baht for ta200..

actually > than a certain limit until unlimited is aso 220 baht.. lol~

When going back to sg, chop passport + 2rm (duno why 2.. all give 2, so i aso follow)

Rem to return the export/import form at the place where u chop ur passport.. if not change ur number plate if u wana ride to thai again.

Some clarification.

If your insurance is under NTUC, it covers up 80km from sadao border.

Any inches beyond, you are require to purchase a thai insurance.

Cost will depend on your duration .

Over Thai Immigrant, 1RM / 20 baht is sufficient . Dont reason over it!

Road Direction

Are you enquiring for direction to Genting or BKK?

Please be specific.

Genting highland: Personal Preference -> NSH - Exit Cheras and merge to Kuantan highway. You cant miss the genting signboard.

Thailand: If you are familier with thailand, will be additional add on.

Will not eleborate the NSH part as you wouldnt need to exit NSH except turning on exit 214 at KL part.

Will suggest you give southern thailand a try first before you attempt anywhere further.

you can reach BKK via Route 4 -> 41 - > 43 -> 4 by passing Phattalung -> Chumphon -> Hua Hin .

Road condition will never be as comfortable as north south highway.

Tried 1 shot from SGP -> Hua hin. A hell of 23 hours ride over 1600km including refreshment time interval.

For BKK i will strongly suggest to give it a miss :D , if you really keen, good luck. PM me if you interested to know more.

hazards

Main hazard: Fatigue

Improper bike maintainence.

Impatience Riding.

weather

Unpredictable Along NSH. But I would advise avoid monsoon season.

Over thai, you will face much more warm weather compared to local and msia.

Just standby your raingear at all time.

its really horrible when you encounter thunderstorm weather on Thailand highway.

fuel usage

Depend on bike make and model.

However the best petrol you can have in Thailand are of GRade RON 95. Read up the stickys on trip thrill section for more info.

emergency

If you need a list of contact

Towing/Emergency in msia and south thailand , PM me.

Feel free to PM me if you do require any further assistant.

Will be much better off to talk over a cup of coffee :smile:
