next, loosen the locking nut on both sides of the swingarm. the pic shows the locking nut on the right hand side of the bike. should be a size 12 spanner.

after both sides of the locking nut is loosen. you can insert an allen key into a hole besides the locking nut. size is 5mm for this one. do the same for both sides. you will notice the markers right above wher the axle nut is. rem, whatever mark you moved to on one side, you must do the same for the other side.

after adjusting to the desire length. tighten the locking nuts, then tighten the axle nut. you are ready to go! dun overtighten. after you tighten, another 1/8 to 1/4 turn is enuff.

how much to adjust really depends on how heavy your ass is. more so if you have a pillon often. owner's manual recommends a chain tension of 15mm measured from the middle of the chain from the front and the rear sprocket. i do a 25mm. cos i weigh about 79kg and plus pillon, the chain would be stretched to the max! but so far, the DID x-ring is holding up well.

the tension means somewhere at the lower part of the chain, right in the middle of the front and rear sprocket. you push it up with your finger. the distance the chain moves is the chain tension.

cleaning the chain

tools needed.

1) kerosene

2) allen key, should be 5mm

3) paint brush or used toothbrush.

4) old newspaper

5) chain wax or chain lube.

6) rags

to clean throughly, i recommend opening the front sprocket cover up. if not, pour the kerosene into a small dish. i would cut an old plastic soft-drink bottle and use it as a container. use the paint-brush or toothbrush to clean or rub on the chain. after that, use some rags to clean away the grim. rem to put some old newspaper on the floor.

then apply some chain wax or lube of your preference. i would jack up the bike with a car jack so the rear wheel is free to move. it makes the cleaning and applying of the chain lube much easier.

it's very simple to do. try it. i would suggest a foldable stool, cos it really sucks to squat for a long time.

now, how do we remove the front sprocket cover? the pic shows 4 screws, remove them all.

Posted

now, pull the sprocket cover very gently

the cover will not come out easily. you will have to twist and shift it bit by bit. dun pull hard!!! it is plastic!!!

but it will come out. shift it a bit here and there. you will find that it gets stuck at the left corner, dun worry, shift it up and down, left and right till it comes out. remember, dun use force!!!

ta la! front sprocket revealed!

use the brush, dip it in kerosene and brush away! spin the rear wheel to move the sprocket. the sprocket cover will be filled with grim. sticky grim. brush it all off.

after all the dirty work, lube the chain on the inside of the links. a bit on the outside too. i recommend maxima chain wax. quite colourless and flings very little. good stuff.

i would jack up the bike using a car jack, the rear wheel spins freely and makes work much much easier. like i said, a foldable stool brings much comfort to aching knees and back.

man terry...how i wish u cld do all this for aprilias... :-) good job!

heh heh heh, if i own aprilla, i would be trying to share my knowledge too. forum mah, we must share whatever we know so that we can love our bikes more and get chop by bike shops less. :help:

if the owners take care of their bike more, maybe the italians stallions would not have suffered such a bad rap. just trying my best to improve the situation out there, so more people can appreciate the ducatis, aprillas, cagivas more.

so planteers out there, share watever info you have!

hmm... maybe i m too sensitive about that. i m thinking of changing a new one lor if possible a 2nd one will be priority.

hey btw where r u living? he he... me wanna to learn "Kungfu" from u leh.

Oh yeah... I find the Planet's exhaust note quite anti-social, especially since I cruise between two lines of landed houses at 720 in the morning on the way to work. I live in constant fear that one day my way will be blocked by 2 BMWs and I get beaten to death :help:

For replacement exhausts you could probably retrofit a Mito's end-can to the Planet. That's what the Raptor 125s look to be sporting anyway.

come on sera my man! the sound ain't that bad! :sian:

i was thinking of writting to LTA on fitting a mito pipe on with the reason that planet pipes dun exist any more and new pipes are mito style on the raptor 125. i'll have to get the part number and submit for approval. but it can wait. a solution worth considering for those who dun like the sound of their original exhaust.

dun worry about getting caught brudder. our pipe with the Cagiva inprinted on it is good enuff a tailsman to ward off the man in white.

got another question, after i got the bike back..and riding awhile.

just about 8pm i went to start my bike go for dinner..

the bugger did not even start ! even after i press the power button , click a few times also did not work.

i realised my valve opening checks when turning on the igintion ( the valve self checking sequence) seems strong on the first sound, and fading off on the second sound.

then i went on the check my starter relay , i plugged it out and plugged it in again..

and my valve check sequence is normal again. with no problems again.

but after dinner.. the same thing happened again... got to go plug in and plug out the relay then can start...

anyone encounterd the same as above before?..

:help: :help: :help:

Posted

i'm not sure what the problem could be. if plugging in and out solves the problem, 1st thing you should do is to use contact cleaner and clean up the connecting joints.

keep me posted after you clean the contacts.
