any Latio owners here? newbie looking for some tips and recommendations on some simple add-ons and sound improvements :p

considering to:

a) add strut bars to improve handling

there're so many makes available but seems Alutec (

b) add vs & grounding

autobacs selling the raizin mega & grounding kit for $228, wonder if there's any better makes at better prices?

c) change the stock 2-din player to a better player with MP3 & USB capability and speakers... smallish budget of $500 nia

budget 2-din options seems quite limited, the FH-P6050UB is already near $400. considering getting a universal drawer with a single deck player (e.g. pioneer DEH-3150UB) for ~$300 and i'll have the remaining $200 for speakers and whatever else

total budget

friends have recommended changing the heavier stock sport rims to lighter ones and user wider 195 tires (stock is 185). but i tot that's not so important for a family sedan unlike the sports model :p

i'm not a latio owner but

1) if ur vehicle is for daily drive, dun bother adding it.

2) VS promotion can look out from hotstuff mag, normally mc*ell will have promotion for pivot vs.

3) if u wan cheaper ICE, can go to those ICE forum to buy resale item, maybe can fit into ur budget for a HU and 2 speakers + labour installation

haha.. read many posts saying new car dun need VS, better to use budget on ICE.

if so, can get a better setup with $700+ budget liow :cheeky:

if ur budget is ard 1- 1.5K u should be able to source for some decent used amps, speaker n sub + cables n workmanship (varies from $ n brands of used item).. it all depends on wht u wan out of ur In Car Entertainment :)

while on improving of handling of ur ride, u may wan start off wif having some decent tires tht grips in both dry n wet weather (not refering to those hardcore kind of semi or slick tires for PG or OG (eg:AD07/08, R888 etc..) but something like e GdYr F1 Asym, Conti CS2/3 etc..

Upgrading to a better brake pad wif steel braided hose helps in braking. If height is not a concern perhaps u might wan to consider lowering of ur ride to bring down e CG n e look of ur ride..

Forget abt VS if performance is ur concern.. For a simple direct performance go for ECU tuned (piggyback or ECU reflash).. others additional add on depends on urself :)

put strut bar alone wun make much difference to reduce the flex of your chassis.. improve safety for handling can work on better brakes, pads, tires, alignment, balancing etc for a small start...

then if u find is still not up to ur criteria then can start to add on some sway bars, links, ALK, coils, etc etc... But if u do all these and u might find spending 10k above for such improvements but reselling will be a headache by the time u demod as latio in sg is more to family style of vehicle and ppl who r willing to throw $kk on it are PTE LTD. oh well realistic and dreams always hurts.

1) Don't bother

2)don't bother, stock is good enough

3)if you're willing to part with your money and might be able to get back upon dekitting, why not?

Use the other money for JB petrol and get good rims+tyres. Worth every penny! :thumb:

thanks for all the suggestions, really appreciated it

ok, i've dropped the idea of installing VS and struts... not going to be driving like kimi or button. but still, will channel the $$ to upgrade my sound system.

not audiophile stuffs but at least to something more decent than the stock kenwood that doesn't play MP3/WMA, has no USB too. with my measly budget, i'ld probably get the Pioneer or Sony 2-DIN and a pair of components first, amps can wait :p

was at Sim Lim Tower this evening and there're lots of export sets (HU, speakers, amps, etc) available at very very tempting prices.

is it worth getting export sets... same budget can get higher models

why take risk for export sets, components different. i think u can check it out this website : carsounds.com.sg for HU, their price quite competitive.

You can try michelin ps2 tires if u wan more traction during wet or dry, and maybe a good wheel alignment service. This should be good enough for now for your handling improvements.

if u got some budget u might wan to consider this few items eg: Amp and Speaker, HU depend on urself. :)

depending wat size u wanna upgrade or remain

design of rims is up to personal perference...

rims dealer will advise u on the pcd and rims width, offset.

u can up 1 to 2 size difference based on oem spec with a lower profile tires or flushing fenders which is optional.

try to select forged rims as only a few brand of castered rims are relatively good thats avaliable in market, and yes forged sometimes is cheaper depending on brand and model.

bling factor will be very much over lightweight purpose imho for this vehicle, just remember nv get a repaired, re-conditioned rims. it will kill u someday

just google "rims" and u can get alot of information.
