Finally after years of negotiating with my mother, Im gonna to start learning bike next year. Usual things la, she feels its too dangerous especially for a girl to ride bike. took me long enough to persuade her, even now think she's only 70% on board! Actually im over 21, no need permission liao technically, but no point making the family unhappy, right?

Im quite excited, I'll probably be looking at scooters, not gonna be riding fast, just a form of transportation, especially to school and work, which takes me one and a half hours by bus, too far and have to change multiple bus. Cant drive cos family car is red plate and erp and parking way too expensive!

Ive been lurking around this forum for quite some time now, found that most ppl here are very friendly and helpful to each other with tips and advice. I like that there are bike clubs and groups that meet up and try to promote a bond amongst all the bikers in singapore.

So to all you verteran riders, any advice to give me as to what bike to consider?

I was thinking, vespa, piaggio mp3 or maybe benelli adiva, second hand I set a budget about 5k max..

I like the whole protection from weather that the adiva has but heard that its rare so maintanence quite lehchey, parts hard to find too.

The Mp3 and adiva both are quite heavy and bulky and may be hard to handle?

I like vespas but honestly there are so many models that im confused already.

Actually i think im gonna be one of those boring riders who ride in the middle of the land instead of weaving along the lines, sure get tail gate and horned alot, but no choice la, safety first!

Nice to finally be part of the forum, thanks in advance for any advice! :)

you can look at vespas like ET8,LX150,GT125/200 etc etc.... Fino is a good bike to consider too....

end state is which bike look most appealing to you....

get a friend who is experienced enough to bring you to bike shop to hunt for a bike to prevent kanna chopped.

most imptly, dun rush into buying one..... observe and think hard before committing.

budget of 5k can get quite alot of bikes.... but if inclusive of your insurance, then you would need to reduce to abt 4k cos your insurance will cost abt 1k.

beside that, maintainence of the bike. in general, european bikes has much higher maintainence cost than asian ones....

personally, i would think that Fino or nouvo is a nice bike to own as maintainance is so much cheaper and its looks in terms of mod, plentiful.

Hey! Grats on finally being able to fulfil your dreams of riding :D

Just start taking lessons first and get a feel of how it is to ride, dont give up even if it seems difficult at first.

I too only got e approval to ride after some negotiations with my parents, but it really is worth it once u get on e road!

Regarding which vespa to get, i tink probably lx150 would be most suitable. Some girls prefer an lx to a px, cos px's are manual. So, its sort of easier to handle an auto scooter in a jam when you are not busy trying to change gear. Futhermore, gt's are typically slightly heavier and abit larger compared to lx's. So gt200/gtv125 are abit hard to handle. Lx150 on the other hand is lighter and more nimble in comparison.

A 2nd hand lx150 would probably set you back at least 4k+++ depending on its mileage and condition of its engine/outlook etc. So might have to spend abit more than 5k if your looking at auto scooters. Vespas are afterall that much more expensive than other brands of scooters. But, riding a vespa is a one of a kind experience :D

Still, safety is always the most important issue. So when u do get out on the road, always ride safely. Not saying you must ride very slowly, but just dont lose concentration or focus when riding. Have fun! And feel free to ask any burning questions you might have.
