Hi guys,

I was involved in an accident with a taxi 6 months back. It was his fault as he ran the red light. However I did not have a witness therefore the claim didn't really went my way.

Anyways, I paid 30% of the $2000 repairs ($600, sucked dry my progress package). I also waited 3 months before I finally got my bike back from repairs. And now - AFTER SO LONG, the law firm sent me a letter to ask for another $170 to cover the full settlement.

It has a response letter that I will need to return stating whether I agree to pay this fee. Has anyone experienced this before? Pls share so I can prevent myself from being carrot-headed further, thanks!

I don't know, don't ask me.

Lousy Taxi Drivers! I was hit by a taxi as well in May. Didn't suffer major injuries but also spend quite alot on the repairs. Guess lady luck is on my side. I had a witness who is willing to help me.

For my case, my law firm send me a letter stating how much is the other party going to pay out and whether I'm willing to accept that amount. The taxi driver is 90% liable for the accident.

If the taxi is at fault, I don't see why your law firm is asking another $170 to cover the settlement. By right you should be getting back money.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

most unfortunate of hear of the accidents...

is the law firm is representing you or the taxi? if it is representing you... then you should call and enquire why you have to pay and ask for as much details as possible...

if the law firm is representing the taxi... forward the letter to your insurance company and ask them for advise...

It's the law firm representing me. They have a breakdown that shows me how much I have won in the claim and I'm short of $170 for full payment. Yet they ask if IF i am willing to pay. I am tempted to reply with a NO, but just checking to see if anyone has similar experience

I don't know, don't ask me.

so how much haf u claimed from the taxi's insurance co.? cos if its more than 170 then jus take lor and pay first. anyway ALWAYS ALWAYS call the police if u are involved in an accident and let them access the situation. so if u dun haf witness the police still can process the scene.

there can be various reasons for this amount, for example:

-maybe they're asking for the proportion of the legal expenses that you can't fully recover from the other party since you got a portion of the total liability (30%?).

-maybe they're asking for disbursements paid by them on your behalf.

there's not enough details from your description to see exactly what the lawyers are claiming for. perhaps this is clearly stated in the letter they sent to you, but if not you can always ask the lawyers to explain their charges fully to you.
