Just do the regular transfer at LTA and have the new owner come ready with the new insurance. The insurance company will cover him under "non-rider" because he hasnt obtain his license yet and will change that once he reports to the insurance company that he has got his license. No problem whatsoever.

if he gets his own insurance, does he HAVE to have a subrider? cos i did some searches on this topic and some forumers said that the insurance premium will be based on the subrider.

is there an alternative to this? can i for example do it this way:

1. layup bike

2. transfer ownership (new owner does not require to have insurnace yet)

possible?

Do transfer at LTA and then Lay Up the bike. Once he passed and gets his own insurance then he can cancel the Lay Up and start riding. I've sold my bike this way b4. Lay Up costs about $5..

so must lay up first right? then transfer? cos lta usually need insurance to transfer

transfer can be done without insurance. Just simply go down to LTA and tell the staff that you are transfering your bike and follow by a lay up. The staff will give u 2forms to fill up. 1 is for bike transfership and after the bike has been transfered, they will help u lay up the bike. but the cost of laying up is $5.

insurance premium is not based on the subrider, it is based on the youngest age rider (or rather the higher premium rider, which is most probably be the younger rider). i believe u have been misunderstood by some of the threads as the topics discussed were related to a younger subrider.

from what i know, the new owner need not cnacel the lay up. what he need to do is simply send the bike for inspection, buy road tax and insurance and he is good to go. the bike will automatic unlay once the bike is send for inspection.

note that inspection is complusory even if the bike just went for inspection just before the lay up is done. LTA will refund the remaining road tax to the new owner and he/she will have to purchase new road tax once the inspection is done.

hope this helps

cheers

waiting for tp i think better dont lay up la... just get the non rider insurance

lay up for short period is a waste of $

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

there's no need to buy whatever insurance if the rider has got no valid license yet. just lay up the bike. the procedure is very simple and cheap.

cost incurred will be lay up cost, towing to and fro from layup location to bike inspection centre, season parking if its parked at hdb car park, road tax (whatever remaining road tax just before you lay up will be refunded to you).
