Hi guys!

My YBR's air filter element is missing the sponge material. One day when i was cleaning it for the first time, i saw like the sponge material heavily degraded and was like in powder form. I just cleaned and removed the "powdered specs" and put it back into my bike and it runs fine with no difference.

I am missing the black sponge in the image below.

Do i need to buy a whole new air filter element or just the sponge is enough? Can i also just cut out my own sponge shape and place it there?

Thanks!

I just got my air filter element from LAB. I went home and installed it and i can already feel the results instantly!

The "poomps" from the exhaust must smoother, stronger and regular. The sound damn "sedap" or "swee" sia. The throttle is also more responsive. :)

Anyway, when i opened my old air filter, there was some engine oil on the filter and a little around inside the airbox. I clearly remembered that i cleaned it throughly last month.

Did the engine oil move from the engine to the carb and into the airbox and air filter?

No, i did not use filter oil. Accordingly to the user and technical manual, it uses a dry element and doesn't need any filter oil. The oil is definitely engine oil. But it looks and feels slightly different from engine oil. Slightly darker than fresh EO, but smells "stronger" than new or used EO. Got funky smell one.

For the YBR250, it stated that you have to put filter oil on the filter. They recommended to use engine oil as the filter oil.

Is it possible to buy those high quality filter sponges and cut them to size? I really feel like doing it. Or if i can find a cheap cone air filter, i can put it inside the air box. Or worse, i can remove the whole airbox and just put a conical K&N airfilter there! :thumb:

The new air filter gives my bike a "thicker" feel, slightly imrpoved pick up but my top speed, really :faint:. Once reach 70km/h, it will take slowly to climb up to 110km/h. Sian.

Ya the sponge restrict the air flow a little so ur low end is better and more responsive. A lot of ppl think high air flow is better but that's not always the case.

As for the oil in the air box,it's from the engine crank case breather. There's a hose attached from the engine to ur air box. U can DIY a oil catch tank so ur air box wun be so dirty,ur carb wun get dirty so quickly also. Do a google on oil catch tank, very easy to do. Don't use those small air filter for the breather,u will need the vaccum from the air box to draw out the gases from the crank case. And it's bad for the enviroment also.
