That's consider abusing it meh? :p

i used to do that too, until i got a Spark 135. i seriously think it is not abusing. but a form of "loving" your bike. riding it everyday, spending more time on it than with your gf and reaching orgasmic high on it that your gf cant give you. heh heh heh!!

that is GREAT LOOKING! must be some kind of Busa fan that made the customisation. dun think it is a LE la. there're quite a number of differences, especially the fairing. this one more sleek looking. the tail section resembles Busa-I rather than the Busa-II, which alot of us here, will find it more appealling, right?

I think its slightly more expensive to maintain a transport bike compared to riding our hyperbikes full time, but the convenience more than makes up for it.

And a 2nd bike comes in really handy to 'chope' favourite parking spots. :D

U got so many transport bike, of coz slightly more ex lah haha.

But no matter what, I find its really not worth adding the extra mileage on the bigger bike which are not meant for transport that will go thur unnecessary maintenance , however i still have reasons of not owning a transport bike yet. And 1 of the reason is what u mentioned. More expensive!

All i can say is.. when you are overseas and left with limited options, there is only so much that u can do..

The local mechanic there, i believe some of the riders here know him, I shall mention no names. He appears to be a very friendly, helpful and someone you can work quite easily with.

But its business to him afterall, mixing "friendship" and money can be quite difficult to make a good call and what is the best option.

To everyone else who hears about the amount I have to fork out, they will feel I got ripped off big time, but to some, that's perhaps the "expected" amount to pay, given the location and distance from sg. To me then, I had very limited option, and he has my bike in his "hands" while I flew back for medical treatment, I just wanted to get my bike out of his hands and back to singapore, so I dun have much choice to say no to the amount quoted...

Anyway, just a short summary of what happened. I met with a head-on accident with a motor foodcart while leaving Phuket, bike front was gone, both wrist had hairline fracture. The other guy was ok since the impact was on the cart. Went to police station, had a private settlement with the other party. By the way, the thai insurance we bought at customs is CRAP. Covers u S*it, unless u kill that guy.. so be prepared to be ripped by the locals. Fortunately I managed to withdrew cash from creditcard, else u can forget abt leaving with your bike.

I wanted to put the bike on the train to bring back to SG, so got it towed. Halfway I got a msg from friend to try going to Krabi instead since there's a sg mechanic there. Decide to try my luck since I couldnt obtain any available source in Hatyai. Left my bike and friend's bike at the shop while we flew back as I wanted to seek treatment fast.

The mechanic was an expert with BMW bikes, he offered to help service my bike by getting 2nd hand parts from BKK or bring up some parts from Sg. But somehow I wanted to be in charge of my own repairs instead of him making the call, so I wanted the bike back in Sg. Though he said its my call, but I could sense the strong persuasion in him to do things his way, his recommendation. Whenever I insist on doing it my way, I sense new "issues" which make it difficult like claiming the bike is unpushable, difficult to move, not feasible, more costly or he dismantled the front and hard to put back together, etc. Basically trying to tell me there's no better way than his way.

Hearing some rumours about his bad repuation in PML, i was desperate to get the bikes back and out of his hands asap. I insisted on arranging for my own tow from thai border and just wanted him to ensure the bikes cleared customs properly.

The towing fee from Krabi to Border was as much as it was from Phuket to border even though initially he told me i was ripped off by the initial tow. He charged me S$300 for "diagnosing" the damages, dismantling and reassembling back the front, "repairing" my cracked side farring and "storage" for 2 weeks. My bike was back as it was but without my brake disc and meter which he claimed was damaged and clear away. But I remembered they looked fine and usable to me. And the bike he managed to put it back together and was easy to push, unlike his earlier claims.

Im not trying to destruct his reputation, but sharing my encounter. I felt that when you are stuck with limited options and ppl kind of know you are desperate and in that state, everyone's out to rip you. I dun feel he's any different or having any sympathy for a fallen local rider. Whether u think he's reasonable or not, its up to u to judge.

I advise all just be careful when riding beyond the border, anything that happen, you are quite on your own. Even insurance have so much use then. The only thing that can help you then is a very wide network of trustable contacts else money talks then.

The story I heard was that u paid 2000 sing for storage, worksmanship ( dismantleing and fixing back plus tow to sadao. thats too much...really kana rip off!!

from phuket to sadao and krabi to sadao is ~100km so~ 400 sing for towing which includes the vehicle rental 2 way fuel plus driver) is about the same

300 for storage workmanship and fixing is normal ( u stored for 2 weeks not 2 days). plus 400 towing is standard charge in thailand. u are towing 300 plus km not like in singapore a few km only. and fuel in thailand is more ex in malaysia. tow from kl to gp esso is already 500 plus ringgit. u do the maths.

u cannot compare the charges in sing and overseas.

I am not helping that guy but since i know him I just wan to get the true story form both sides.. sorry to hear about your accident.

bro ray, i know bro jas personally. and i am quite sure he would not be posting this if it does not have any much proof.

also i am surprise that given that he seldom come over here and yet there are ppl hearing thing abt the payment. oh well, this is how internet goes out of hand. let juz cool it since there is nothing to be a issue. anyway, most of us go touring would not plan to have any accident and of cos none of us will bring more then enuff cash during tourin which leave many bo bian when such suitation arise. whichever is the fact. be it 300 or 2000. the man say that much and that happened. i will believe as we are nt there at the scene.

anyway for me even if i accident and send the bike for repair, i wan the damage part back also.

Thais drive on the left .. most of the time.

=The largest vehicle has the right of way,so Don't Apply Singapore Rules and don't even think about challenging elephants and water buffalos.

=A vehicle following you no closer than 10 cm is not considered to be tailgating.

=If you think you see a swarm of tiny butterflies, think again .. they're flying ants or bugs

=Expect slow vehicles to enter the roadway immediately in front of you, especially if there are oncoming buses.

=If a driver approaching from the opposite direction flashes his headlights it may mean

-police ahead, watch your speed or

-he is coming too fast! or

-he screwed up big time by trying to pass this vehicle so please give him some room by heading for the shoulder ... and even the rice paddy ain't a bad idea.

=Expect buses, especially orange ones, to overtake on curves, hills and as you are approaching from the opposite direction.

=If you see an oncoming bus, expect another bus to overtake it; especially if the road has no shoulders.

=Try not to jam the brakes. Thais road is more friendly and you will tend to kiss them.

=If you are overtaking a vehicle, expect another driver to decide to overtake you at the same time. so LOOK OUT!

=Keep as careful a watch behind as in front of you.

If you have an accident, you will most likely be blamed

I only have my Yamaha Majesty 250 now. Having a transport bike also means whenever I ride my ZX14, i'm riding it properly, not just boring commutes stuck in traffic jam etc. This also explains why my rear tyre lasts only 6000km. :giddy:

eh... actually for me i think its okie. I don't have much chance to ride up north also, so the only time I can enjoy my bike is in Spore. Maintenance is just part and parcel of riding... Agree with you that the mileage climb very fast.. but its climbing fast cuz I'm riding more of it and every moments I spend on the bike are moments I really enjoyed... that's all that matters to me...

haha... sometimes I look forward to going out, going to school etc... not because I like to study or go shopping... its because I can RIDE my busa to sch or wherever... A bit siao I know but that's how much I look forward to riding my busa... So I can't really imagine myself getting a small transport bike... I probably won't look forward to riding it as much... :p

I think its slightly more expensive to maintain a transport bike compared to riding our hyperbikes full time, but the convenience more than makes up for it.

And a 2nd bike comes in really handy to 'chope' favourite parking spots.

I do not know about you but insurance at slightly above 100, road tax below 100 and stock tyres that seems to NEVER wear off, I do feel that the pulsar (that I'm sharing with my wife) is the ideal transport bike. For our hyper bikes, our engine oil/tyre change alone is enough to cover almost everything you need to spend on the transport bike. Except fuel of cos!

Oh, and I do use my pulsar to chope my fave busa parking lot!

just want to say a big "HI" to all fellow riders here, regardless we know each other or not.

Also, my deepest condolences to a fallen fellow Falcon rider. May he rest in eternal peace. He will be forever remembered as a great person, and a great rider!

Wah.. someone sugar high... hyper flooding leh... Happy New Year!

im going to thailand next mth mah.. 1st trip leh.. gotta know more so i know what to do mah.

First trip? My big fat A-R_S E! There are some people who act very experienced... but you have to act newbie... noti noti Nok!

This also explains why my rear tyre lasts only 6000km. :giddy:
Woah! What tyres you using?

Totally agree thats why i bought a pulsar:thumb: SI beh ho

Haha... do you happen to have an RS250 also? Then we can be bros liao! haha...

Im also thinking of getting another for transport since a long time. Very deli-ma.

Do the calculations... how long you need to reach 5000km a year? How many times you need to change tyres/engine oil a year? If its more than two times or more, then I feel its worth getting a transport bike. Do the calculations, the price you pay for tyre change (front/rear) and engine oil would cost you about $600.

That $600 is enough to pay for road tax, insurance and season carparking.

If average yearly mileage is 20000, you would need to change engine oil 4 times (100 each time?) and tyres maybe once, if your tyres can last 10000km with the way you ride! Thats a thousand bucks gone. And you're 20000km closer to the next service interval. Pain or not?

But then again, whether you ride the big bike or not, the road tax and insurance paid would not be refunded. Think about it slowly and you can come up with your own conclusion. To me, a transport bike is the way to go. But thats just me.
