I think for car is u but first then inspect. Not before buying. Of coz of the owner nice show also good.

If I'm the owner, I won't agree. Becoz I send my bike for service regularly so I know there is nothing wrong with the bike. Tbh, I always send my bike for service when I'm free like take leave, thus to agree to this inspection means having to fork out extra time for a buyer which may not confirm buy the bike.

 

In this scenario the owner is bearing the risk of losing his time without being able to sell. Of coz vice versa, it doesn't make sense to put a deposit first.

 

This is the key difference between buying from people and shop. Shop more ex buy got warranty but may carrot u.

 

Buy from people cheaper but no warranty. Also may be carrot... Life's like that..

Go to the shop/agent, discuss the price, finance and freebies. Do the paperwork, insurance, pay deposit or full cash.

 

If the shop has ready COE, bike will be registered and collection can be as early as the following day. That was what I was promised when I was shopping for my new bike.

 

If no ready COE, agent will bid the COE for you in the next bidding exercise, depending on how many day you commit the bike to the next bidding exercise, you have to wait for that many days. Collection will be done after another few days after COE is secured for you.

Since the first post to this was made in 2010. I'm not sure if the rules still applied or there has been some changes. I need someone to explain to me the whole procedure as i'm not familiar with any bike shops around singapore.

 

So Here's my case. Please bare with me the long and winded question i have. There are a lot of questions in my mind right now on how to purchase a bike:

 

1. I just converted my license from Malaysian license yesterday. I now have a paper slip that let's me ride or drive vehicle. Can i use that to purchase a bike? (I'll have to wait 1 month for them to mail me the actual license)

2. Buying a second hand bike, can someone explain the procedure? Let's say i saw some posting online? Contact him and what should i do?

3. Do i go to insurance company walk-in to buy bike insurance? What kind of documents that they need?

4. Road tax how and where to buy?

5. COE if the bike has remaining COE, do i just buy and ride it? If not, have to buy COE?

 

I really appreciate your time and effort in answering the questions. Thank you so much!

It's a lot easier nowadays. Lesser paper works.

 

Find your bike online / shops. If you found one,

1. You check the bike. (Make sure your try a test ride, no funny funny sounds, oil leaks etc)

If you decided to take it, proceed

2. Prepare the finance.

3. Buy insurance with your name (NTUC or direct Asia)

4. Go into one motoring .com. (If you dont have, register one)

5. Settle the finance.

6. Ask the seller to transfer ownership online @onemotoring.com. You can do transfer on the spot. (There are guidelines on the website as well.)

If you buy from shop, they will prepare all for you. Gotta pay some extra admin fee.

Check the state of the bike, This may seem very obvious, but it is actually the most important point in the whole checklist. There are second-hand bikes in the market that are falling apart because their previous owners did not take proper care of them. Although the selling price of such bikes will be extremely cheap, the cost of repairing and replacing the bike will eventually add up.

Spend more time looking for a quality second-hand bike that was well-taken care of; your effort will pay off because the bike will be able to last many more years for you.

the biggest change nowadays when it comes to purchasing a 2nd hand motorcycle is being able to do everything online.

no more heading down to LTA saturday morning 8am just to transfer the ownership. everything can be done in One Motoring portal.

least you could do is check the suspension for leaks, we generally look out for small signs that tell you alot about the riders themselves (whether they do the basic maintenance). 

steering cone, weird noises from the engines. tyres.. in our experiences you can't really tell if the bike is problem free but you can make a pretty good guess by looking at the way he takes care of the basics
