Saw the 04 model at Looi's motor. OTR for $19.5K Lee's motor also have a 03 model at $18.5K. Anybody know the resale value of this bike? Couldn't find anyone selling theirs.

Anyone can compare between a XRV 750, Varedaro 1000 and V-strom? Another one on my wishlist is St11. FR plate cost around $12.2K. BTW I'm 1.8m tall. Any comments? Thanks.

Hey, I'm back...

I have ordered the V-strom 650 instead of the 1000 due to lack of money.

It's price is $16.5 OTR at Loois Motor.

V-strom 650 is slighlty shorter and lighter(18kg) than the 1000. So it's better for our traffic condition here.

It is also using the SV650 engine. Fuel cap is still 22L.

I have to wait until I pass my class 2(next month) before I can ride it.. keke

I know I'm kiasu but there is only 4 DL650 in Singapore(as far as I try to find it)

and the one I got is a matt silver version which according to Mr Lee at Loois, only 2 available in Singapore. So have to be fast. The black one is nice too.

Hope to find more V-Strom rider here in Singapore. It's really a rare breed.

Check it out!

hi melvin,

if there r only 4 units of vstrom650 in s'pore, u must make sure mr lee gives u the assurance that he can get all the spares and logistic supports for the bike... would recommend that you source around the web and check the aftermarket parts company to see if they are providing accessories for the strom650.

just my two cents worth as i encountered some tricky situations when i did a warranty claim for my TDM900... anyway vstrom650 would be a gd choice for local roads

cheers

Mr Lee did told me that spare parts is sparse. If anything serious happens(touch wood!!!) it would be expensive and long as parts have to be imported from europe. Let's pray it doesn't happen at all!

I have seen such good reviews from strom owners that I will give it a shot. Hope I dun regret cause even if i want to sell, dun think anyone would buy, not even the bike shops.

Heard that only 21++ strom 1000 is sold so far in singapore. Really rare man. Hoping to find some of them and form the Strommy club or Stromriders. keke

Let's also pray I pass my TP test!

seems like da Jepun manufacturers are now releasing a lot of scaled down tourer type 600 plus cc models.

I heard da fazer 600 n vstrom 650 are gonna be hits in europe. I have ny eyes on a Vstrom in a few years time too! I tot it wld be more popular than tat in Sg. Perhaps when the ATs start running out then the Strom will be a hit.

reviews of da VStrom 650 are available here:

They are tapping in the middleweight market so that smaller built people get to ride these bikes too.

The insurance is also cheaper $800(650cc) compare to $1.2K(1000cc). That's alot of money for the average joe. Road tax cheaper too.

These 650cc bike get the same job done but in a cheaper package.:cheer:

anyone knows the horse power and torque of a Vstrom 1000 and 650?

thinking of changing to Africa twin or vstrom 650 end of this year....

Vtrom 650 using Sv650's engine, higher horse power and torque than AT?

Hi all,

I ve ridden vstrom 1000 for the past 1 year. These are the things that i want to say,

a) petrol comsumption, 360km plus reserves.

b) Very comfortable bike ( ever to Koh Samui with it)

c) Pick up is wonderful...but GS (BMW) is faster

d) Cornering is good....but if you can get hold of Michellin Anakees tyres, cornering is better.

e) Can t afford GS, then buy Vstrom:thumb:

but

a) wobble when travelled at 160km/hr. ( needs to accelerate gradually from 160km/h to 220km/h. You cannot maintain or decrease your speed at these range because the bike will wobble like hell.

b) spare part is hard to get.....good luck

I suggest you buy kawasaki version of vstrom. Perhaps kawasaki do improved the bike :cheeky: characteristics.

I m happy with vstrom....currently riding fazer1000 which i think is more practical in Singapore road. Now happier lor. If often riding up north...then get vstrom

Info thanks to Peter from v-strom forum

- The DL1000 has a maximum speed of 200 kmh, which is electronically limited. The DL650 is measured by most German magazines around 185 -190 kmh.

- The DL1000 acceleration is measured with 3.6 seconds 0 - 100 kmh. The DL got around 4.5 for the same.

- The DL1000 weights 235 kg wet (measured), with 47 % in front. The DL650 214 kg (measured), with 49.1 % in front, almost ideal. Better in handling and stability for the little sister.

- The DL1000 has a torque of 98 Nm at 6300 rpm, while the DL650 offers 64 Nm at 7100 rpm. That's a difference. That means that DL1000 is better for 2 up long distance riding.

For the AT,

Weight : around 233Kg wet

Torque : 62 Nm @ 6500 rpm

Not sure the top speed but 150km/h is the sweet spot where the rider/bike is most comfortable

At has more aftermarket parts and accessories = cheaper to maintain.

Strom's parts are not common here. It shares parts with Sv650 but parts that are unique might have to be imported.

Strom are using Fuel Injection.

At using carb.

Strom has the latest technology. AT has been around for quite sometime and is now part of history.

IMHO, strom will be better in handling the s'pore traffic due to it's smaller size and weight.

If you want a unique bike, than Strom will be the One!

hey thanks....

think i need to really consider very careful before i made my decision...

vstrom 650 is good, but what i afraid is the spare part... i travel 80km+ a day, so the wear and tear will be high, if vstrom's part is hard to get, think i will get a AT then...

Hello,

Normal wear and tear maintainence parts will be available as it share the same engine as SV650(DL650) or TL1000(DL1000). What I meant is if something serious happens(TOUCH WOOD) like fairings damaged, than these parts will be hard to get.

Pannies, crashbars, tankbra, centerstand is already available here but slightly more ex.

Anyway, you decide what you want to get. I just hope that there would be more strommies here in s'pore. IMHO I just feel that ATs are too common here and lack that uniqueness.

Just sold my AT.

Here are my comments:

1. Nice handling with the right tyres (Tourance!) and very nippy in Singapore roads.

2. Good fuel consumption - before reserve can travel about 300km (considering I ride quickly often)

3. Available parts, both aftermarket and original; and minimal maintanence, also problem free except for the fuel pump, which if changed will be almost industructible...haha

4. Too buzzy if you are on the highway all the time....quite uncomfortable on the hard seat at 100-120km/h. Footpegs also transmit vibes at that speed and up.

5. Overtaking not a problem in most cases except when some crazy ass in a Skyline or Beemer decides to transplant himself to Sepang along the ECP...

6. Easy to sell and buy as demand is there.

7. Honda has stopped production of their 750cc motorcycles...so if you intend to keep it, be prepared that in 10 years, parts will run out. (CB750, VFR750 are other examples of obsolete models.) A little underpowered (especially with pillion, side and top boxes), but great savings on the petrol.

8. It's a bike that's been around for a LONG time...and the Varadero replaces it. Am riding one now, and I can tell that there is a great difference in handling....the AT is an 80's bike with the technology of that era, and the Varadero is a 90's bike with more updated tech.

Have a nice day.
