Ipad will be selling in all Apple Premium Reseller Shops in Singapore on Friday

 

All outlets will open at 10am and sales will only be on a 1st come 1st serve basis.

iPad coming to Singapore this Friday

 

Apple Computer, makers of the popular iPhone and iMac computers, have announced that they will be delivering the iPad into Singapore this Friday.

Touted by Apple as a "revolutionary 9.7 inch touchscreen that does things no tablet PC, netbook, or e-reader could", this bigger sized brother of the iPhone does what the iPhone already does.... it runs iPhone apps and iPad fullsized ones, and has iTunes, but sans the phone calling features (understandably it's made for data).

 

There are 2 versions of the iPad. One that lets you surf the internet through your wireless mobile carrier (with the use of a 3G SIM card and subscription fees), and one that comes without.

 

But even if you don't buy or don't care about the above, both have WiFi so you can step in to a local hotspot to surf the 'net for free.

 

Suggested retail prices for the Wi-Fi-only models are as follows:

 

WiFi

 

* 16GB: SGD$728

* 32GB: SGD$878

* 64GB: SGD$1,028

 

WiFi + 3G

 

* 16GB: SGD$928

* 32GB: SGD$1,078

* 64GB: SGD$1,228

I would hate to piss on your parade, guys, but iPad is a flop. At least as it seems to me.

Its a media device, not a computer. Its a stripped down basic device geared towards grandma and junior.

iPad is a simplified way for people to access basic information. People, who can't function within multiple environments, have problems using a keyboard and/or mouse, and fear change. That said, it is good for what it is.

For the money (SG$1,228), I can get a decent laptop with countless GBs of HDD space and WWAN module and be online wherever I want.

And, the Chinese answer to iPad in a form of iPed virtually a day after Apple unveiled the former is hilarious..

I'd say dat either u'll love it or u'd hate it

 

U wouldn't like it if u expect it to be a full computer. Portability and power, too bad u cant have both.

 

U would like the ease n comfort when using it as a portable screen when u watch vibrant videos n enjoy portable accessability of the internet

 

Its both good n bad. But it will depend on how the user wants to use it.

 

Food for thought. If u didn't have to worry abt the price tag.

 

Would u bring it out to use at starbucks with ur friends? Would u use it to access ur email when running arnd for appointments n didn't wanna carry out ur 13" laptop with charger n have to hunt for a power point?

 

Many uses can be thought of, n so can many faults

 

So decide for urself. I started this thread to let u know dats its gonna be available. Nothing else

As for iPad, I agree, you either love it or hate it..

Me? I do not own it and I do not think I would.. My colleague bought a Chinese clone driven by Android at Sim Lim for some 200 bucks or so. That made me wonder.

 

In fact, thanks for the post - the pricing part is informative and keeps things in perspective.. Cheers!

When iPad was 1st announced, I thot it's useless, just a giant iPod Touch. But now I'm quite keen cos I think its very useful for me to use it to read all my pdf documents while on the go. But to spend almost $1k (or at least $728) for a pdf reader sounds a bit too much...gotta control myself :-S

 

A bit OT but I think the iPhone 4 is the flop. I cannot understand why so many people are so excited about getting it when they already know the antenna/drop calls issue...isn't it the most basic function of a phone? I have an iPhone 3G and I wouldn't wanna 'upgrade' now then start having difficulty talking on the phone due to reception problems.

 

Just my personal thoughts..peace =)

As the computer industry pundits have mentioned, the iPad is halfway in between an eBook reader and a notebook computer.

 

When I read the reviews, there were many praises, and complaints as well, The latter read "no USB port", "can't manage files", "can't do much than what my Net/Notebook can do", and many grouses from Power computing users who are used to doing lots on their PC or Mac.

 

I'd think that the iPad would be a fashionable item. It's an iPod with a bigger screen. It's something that people want to perform simple stuff on, but need a bigger screen estate to do so. Read colourful eBooks. Show presentations (iLife). Have a bigger iPhoto user interface to show off to your cousins, or to your real-estate clients. Watch videos and play MP3s just like they have did on the iPhone, just with an enlarged display. Surf the Internet with Safari...etc etc

 

It's something that people are inspired to um... part with their money on. On a serious note, a thousand dollars is a lot of money for a gadget the purpose of which is yet to be defined.. and am sure we all have something in our storage boxes that meant to be mega-useful, absolutely needed and generally must-have..

ipad is not for me, the iphone 4 however is awesome, just can't get the bluetooth to work..
