Hello everyone. Last night at ard 10pm I was travelling along kje towards bke when I passed a overhead bridge. I noticed someone on the bridge taking a snapshot. There wasn't any flash just the orange/red light u see on cameras when it autofocus before the flash comes out. Is that a speed camera?

Plus, I was travelling at abt 120km/h according to my SP's speedo. Heard before the actual speed is lower than the speedo. True? And I was on the emergency lane.. Any wrong with that? There wasn't much cars then.

Thnks!

I have never seen a mobile speed cam in action in the night. I am thinking it because they can't take a clear picture of your number plate in the night without a proper flash. Somemore they usually can capture you from a distance. But unsure on this.

Anyway, yes, there is a speedo error of usually 10%. Small bike have a higher speedo error of more than 10%. How much exactly I do not know. Check with SP rider bah.

Emergency lane as in 1st lane on the furthest right? Nothing wrong on this.

The speed limit is 90km/h.. I'm left with 6 points so if I was actually travelling at 108km/hr I'm not so worried. .. Cause only 4 D point but if it's 120 then gna get 6 which would mean license revoked right?

Is the overhead bridge near the choa chu kang exit? Then it must be the speed cam.

The mobile speed cam TP uses laser to capture right? Need flash? Anyway it is like a sniper shot. Even before u know u kena... U already kena cos if I remember correctly it's range is 1 km. If you can see him when your speeding ur too late.

BTW just clarify the demerit points system, it accumulation and not deduction. Basically if your license is clean record non probationer, you can accumulate up to 24 points. Once you exceed 24 then bye bye license.

For every traffic offence, the offence is valid in the system for a period of 12 months. So if u kena any points, the points will stay with you for 12 months.

Points will be taken away from ur accumulation once it exceeds the 12 months.

Oh so for P platers, I can accumulate up to 12? Once I hit 13 or above then shingz?

And I was sure I was below 120 my sp wouldn't have gone faster than the speedo reading.

Emergency lane = road shoulder? Very bad. People can close one eye if the highway is jammed for 3 hours and a few bikes are plodding along the shoulder seeking refuge from the giant sandwich but using that as an overtaking lane and moving that fast is a big no-no.

I know it's tempting but take a step back and consider the public feedback; if some Malaysian cub wants to use the shoulder to escape being rammed by a callous driver and you're bearing down on him at 108kph... that's zero reaction time for anyone because no one expects anyone to run through the emergency lane that fast!

As far as speeding goes, prevention is better than cure. Letting the speed rise above 100kph just to sprint on the first lane is one thing, willfully going over the speed limit and staying there is another matter altogether especially in traffic.

Hmmm.. it seems that some speed cam do works in the night using infra red technology. It seems that they do "flash" but it supposed to be a invisible purple flash... Anyway just don't speed.

yes there are cameras which can capture based on infrared imagery and use laser to track speeds. Think a report came out in the papers a while back. Supposedly, it can capture 2 vehicles per second, so don't try. Range is also purpotedly 1km.

Had a friend cross an overhead bridge once while one was in operation. He says everything is in greyscale and can see green targetting boxes/cursor track individual vehicle. Basically, the fella you see standing there, is just to guard the equipment and make sure no one ka jiao it.

Esentially, don't speed, don't be afraid. Wanna speed, memorise OH bridge locations and their potential Line of Sight.

Same time ard 16 august at Sengkang Bridge. Saw a person standing at the bridge in the middle of the bridge with those orange light. With the banners there, wonder how they can still take speed cam hiding...?
