Well, ... normal usage for tyres.. in singapore road condition with a mileage of about 20,000-22,000km average should be about time to 'start looking' for a new set of tyres...(for normal bridgestone tyres)

In terms of duration, i supposed its about 18 to 20mths for me...:cheeky:

Unfortunately, on the checking of the coolant, even if you opened up the cap, u don't seem to 'see' much ...(of course, for older bikes, impurities can be observed upon opening up the cap):dozed: Asked for warranty on the coolant system if needed (especially when u are not sure about checking it)

However, one thing for sure that you can check is the cooling fan operation, it should start running once the bike is heated up and idling.(ie. POWER ON)

Your problem can be solved if you can gather your friends or any one of your mechanic to view and 'inspect' the bike before you invest into it.

Note:- as mentioned before, be ethical on the checks and do it when there are no other buyers around. Nevertheless, if you feel that the shopowner is not comfortable about having u to have a 'free look',.. chances is that there will be "no sale "(for me). I would not want to buy with 'someone' whom i think i will have a problem in talking to him when i faced some minor issue later.(Got it?)

In summary, i would say that be prepared for some servicing needs since you are conditioned to buy a used/old bikes.

Even Brand new bikes can have a leaking engine problem within one week.(which happens to my neighbour, an uncle who bought a HORNET900). So remember the Murphy's law... "if you think ... anything that can go wrong will go wrong".

So.. cheers... !

thank you so much bro, very helpful info.

anyway i went to hme @ toh guan to take a look at the FQ H250, the bike looks very dusty, seem to have parked there for quite some time, mechanic start the engine a few time but it cant seem to idle.died. no batt :sian:

the shop guy says will give one month warranty and will service the front fork seals and do up the necessary stuff before handing over. quoted $6.4k OTR with $600 2nd party insurance.

is it a good buy? hmm...currently stil at my 2A stage2. 2more lesson to tp..

hmmm i just am worried to shops holding up their end of warranties, i think make sure its a shop that is reputable and trusted.

some can say anything to make the sale, once having the money. they pretend they don't know you, worse see you as an annoyance.

one thing to consider.

Well Touch n Go,

There is no reason for me to accept the bike if cannot be started. That is, the bike should be lying in the 'back sit' and should not be presented at the front for buyers to 'test' out.

If the H250 has a ignition 'cranking' problem, think twice again before committing.

FQ Plate and selling S$6.4k w/o Insurance.... !!!:faint::cry:

Even if it is with a new 10 year COE renewed, ... with such a 'undesired and miserable' condition, do you think it is worth S$6.4k or S$7.2K (OTR)?

With that kind of monies, i would recommend you to go for a Superfour VTECII...:)

I did saw a few quite decent looking ones.... at Toh Guan too!

However, If you are really keen about the bike, make sure that the primary checks on the bike alignment etc.. plus... they are able to start the bike first... before you go into details.. and negotiation.

If you are all .... ready to negotiate, i would suggest that :-

1) a thorough cleanup and lubrication on all major movable parts;

(new starter plugs, new engine oil, new batteries .... A MUST!)

2) a new coat of paint (choice of your colour)

(Personally, my preference is to have a used bike with new paint coat)

As for the price, ... if you are able to find/get a S4 with renew COE at S$4,000-S$4,500 with a new coat of paint etc.. , estimate how much more u intend to pay for a 250cc over a 400cc.( Need i say more???)

So bro, the price of the bike is very much depending on individuals. With my income and abiliity, i can only say that i can never bring myself to pay S$7,200 for a renewed COE 250cc bike even though it's one of those limited edition... a USED BIKE perhaps.. but, NOT a RENEWED COE USED BIKE.!

(I will normally also cater some $ to spend on future 'hidden' problems...):thumb:

Check out Upper Changi areas as well as Eunos areas bike shop, i am sure there will be HORNETS 250cc around....!

Cheers!

Hi bro RapidThinker,

really thanks for the fast response. i just realised that Hornet at toh guan has been sitting there for at least 7mth as back in feb i posted the same question as i did recently, Pg250 post #12495. it was $5k plus when i called the shop then. now it was $6.4k OTR with $600 insurance. :sian: .hmmmm......

guess i'll take my time to find a very good condition H250 while saving up for the bike too.

i'm 2lesson away from my 2A tp! bumpy course is damm difficult.

will check out changi area n eunos area for this bike!! thanks alot bro!!

yea bro. i got my current 2B bike for 2 weeks, the shop told me they will do a oil n spark plug change before hand over to me and guess wat, i went to change oil and the oil came out to be BLACK, literally 'ow euu' (hokkien). spark plug oso nv change.

not meant to be bad mouth abt shops but sometime they jus want to make sales quick. after sales service :faint:

Well, Touch n Go,

Glad to know that u appreciated my informations... :cheeky:

Good luck then... on your pursue of your new license...heehee:angel:

Take wayang's advice on the "warranties issue" also.. I am not surprise that the many shops will agree to many things just to get the sales. But, in reality, they just ignore your complaint after the "monies is in their bag"...:sian::cry:

wow tts great, can the S4 clutch cable oso be used on hornet?

thanks!

anyway what grade of petrol u guys using on hornet250? does it need 98 at least?

Among all the lower price petrol.... personally, i finds that generally they are fine with Hornets ... However, i believed the CALTEX lower price petrol seems to have a better "kick in" the power during acceleration....

I normally goes for the 95 and higher petrol grade.... I tends to enjoy the ride and the engine definitely feels 'smoother'... (i can felt it.... it's true)

Personally, i will occassionally goes for the 98 petrol once i felt like the fuel head of the bike needs 'cleansing'.... heehee... :cheeky:

Just pumped up the 98 petrol, take a ride into the highway and.... blast the throttle using your 3rd gear to clear out all the debris... and dust... from your carburator, fuel pin/nozzel and clear up your exhaust pipe... (feel your bike ROAR....) hahhaha...

cheers!

Well,

Mine is silver in colour... perhaps.. u will see me if you travel along Upp.Serangoon and PIE in the morning... heehee:cheeky:

Just for information, i have just replaced the speedometer cable with a 3rd party product... (YSK) PART NO.: 44830-KY2-700 , TYPE: CBR400RRJ

So, i think the cable is meant for CBR400RRJ model but, Hornet 250CC seems to be able to be fitted also.... heehee.... :cheeky::angel:

Very surprise with the ease on replacement of the cable, .. didn't even have to remove the fuel tank... hahahhaha... !

I just hope that it will last.... like the original....

Anyway, great price... only S$9.

Cheers!!!
