Hi,

I just bought a dirt bike. It's registered for road use, but the previous owner removed all the turn signals because he only went off road.

I'd like to re-install them.

1. Could someone give me a basic idea of the wiring sequence?

2. I understand a flasher relay is required which can bought from LAB. Do I need one, or 2 for each side?

3. Also, I want to throw in a fuse into the system. How many amps should I get?

I'll probably be using the LAB $5 bulb-type signal lights. Non-LED.

Thanks in advance!

I have never done it before but it should be something like this.

The "ignition" is optional if power is through that, then power to signal lights is only available when ignition is "ON".

The 5A fuse is just an estimate. Usually, a 55v headlight would require a 10A fuse,

For Bulb connections, although there is no order, it's a good practice to use body to Ground.

Flasher, if there is no instructions, just play around with the three legs, nothing should blow up should you connect wrongly.

Make sure the flasher corresponds with the signal bulb wattage otherwise, if the load (bulb wattage is too light) it will flash too quickly and vice versa. Alternatively you can get a digital flasher (about $10), then the flashing will be constant regardless of bulb wattage In future, you can change to LED signal light without any other mods.

Thanks bro Demon, really appreciate your help + wiring diagram.

2 questions

1. Shouldn't the signal switch come before the flasher relay? So it should be battery --> ignition --> signal switch --> flasher relay --> left/right signal light? Or actually, it looks like it doesn't matter which comes first in the chain haha.

2. Where can I get the digital flasher? Does LAB have it? Or should I got to Sim Lim Towers?

Anyway, good to know nothing should blow if its wired incorrectly. I think this should be quite straight forward once I figure out how everything falls into place.

Thanks again!

Diagram is always misleading. There are three legs on the flasher, so each goes to

- both signals

- Power

- Switch

Digital flasher can get from richard or "limbat"

Hi Demon,

Do u know, Why my flasher relay only hv two legs????

Bro,

sorry I'm a bit confused.

I found this on a website:

Identify the turn signal relay's prongs. The first prong on the right side of the relay is typically used to connect to the motorcycle's main power line from the battery. The second prong at the top center of the relay connects to the turn signal switch on the handle bar, while the remaining prong on the left connects to the motorcycle's ground wire.

And based on that description, I came up with this wiring diagram (attached)

Is this correct?

Thanks again!

Don't worry so much because you are building your signal light circuitry from scratch, so you can play around.

Just get the flasher first, and you can figure the rest out based on the type of flasher you get. If you are getting from Limbat, he will be able to advice you.

According to the website above, it's because your relay is an older model.

I'm not 100% sure, but I guess your config might be like this:

Battery/ignition switch --> 2 leg relay --> signal switch --> left/right signal light

Which bike is it? Some scramblers dunt have batt, so there is a special flasher relay for this kinda bikes. Using it flashes alternate front and back. I would suggest strip off the tank, seat and front headlight and trace the wires. Who knows the previous owner just cut short the wires leaving the rest in tact.

My Spare bike is KTM200. It doesnt have any batt. I think most kick start 2 stroke ktm doesnt have batt.

Was planning on tapping from headlight or brakelight.

I don't know about KTM, but when I DIY my signal light for my Phantom, I traced the wire back from the Signal light to the headlight conduits connected to the ignition which goes to the fuse and battery.

I guess you can use that idea as a template.

Hi there. I'm not very sure about how the system for your KTM goes. But I have tried to wire signals on my old vespa that has no battery as well. What i did.

1 look for the brake switch.

2 get power from the brake switch

3 wire it to a flasher

4 from flasher wire it to the signal switch

5 lastly wire them correctly to the signals lamp.

Time for a bigger bike....
