Hey bros. Anyone here got the X-lite X802 helmet (specifically the black Lorenzo replica - pic below)? I walked past someone in Orchard on Sunday who had one but didn't want to seem like a weirdo o_O, so didn't approach him about it. Thanks fellas.

LOL. Thanks KeraKing. I really should have! :pity: Next time bro. No reservations!

I'll be heading down to Chong Aik this weekend to check it out. There is one useful review of the helmet I found online here.

Price is $650 before any discount. Should be able to knock at least 10% off that I would think.

I thought I would post an update on my own post. I tried the Xlite X802 at Chong Aik the other day. The helmet is insanely light (at 1230g, it makes the Shoei X11 feel heavy!). The liner fabric is awesome (X11 has a scouring pad feel). Downsides were the button-type top vents, the larger-than-the-X11 shell size and the lack of PSB certification. The current model has images of Lorenzo growing from a baby to a Motogp racer at the back - okay but not exactly interesting. I've been told that the newer model will come with the Spartan logo at the back later this year - that will be understated and classy and might make the perfect track day helmet.

I take it you don't care about the lack of a PSB sticker? ;) I read numerous posts in SBF about ppl's thoughts on PSB vs non-PSB, but the thing that got me was the possibility of the insurance company not paying out if they latch on to my use of a non-PSB stickered helmet. Apparently your insurance is void without a PSB approved helmet. So I've played it safe and opted for a PSB approved Shoei X11, rather than the Xlite X802.

upz to you..

anyways just sharing my thoughts

1. i just dun think psb is good enough to warrant considering when buying helmet.

1.1 e.g. $30-70 open face helmet with psb sticker, (which break my uncle and fren face - r.i.p, fren)

vs $100++-$400 full face with d.o.t, snell, japan whatever, FIM.... (save my bro face)

1.2 who the xxxx are psb when it come to helmet testing?

1.3 who the xxxx are psb to Shoei, to Nolan, to Arai, to AGV, to Shark, to Suomy, ect.

2. the psb sticker itself is bulletproof mah?

e.g when u accident, are u sure the psb sticker can be intact?

e.g normal usage, how long can the psb sticker be there?

e.g. someone hand itchy took it out.. hehe

however, i recently bought a helmet, which the psb sticker is pasted inside.

3. i never experience nor heard from ppl experience insurance company enquire on psb sticker when awarding u with your claim.

in other word, i have recieve claim, people i know have recieve claim without anyone coming and looking for any PSA/PSB/POSB sh*t.

lets keep it low, and hope they dun change their policy..

you should really take a look at the HJC ben spies.

pin-lock, tear offs and even comes with a tinted visor.

that would be a steal for less than 450.00 brand new from motoworld..!

yes it has pin-lock, tear-offs & tinted visor.

no additional pricing!

that IMO is the ultimate race helmet, weight 70 grams more than the x-lite. check it out, you won't be disappointed I know i wasn't! =)

i believe it is retailing @$500.

just had mine pre-ordered today. The Ben Spies replica is in hot demand!

it weighs 1200g, i had not held a helmet this light before, even x-11 and x-12 weighs a tonne compared to this...

x-lite lighter than 1200g?

Class 2B - 26/03/2009

Class 2A - 01/06/2010

Class 3 - 10/07/2009

Rides(s)

Paid $650. :) Chong Aik.

x-lite lighter than 1200g?

No, if I remember correctly, the small size was 1230g. I completely agree with ahcaibiker - the X11 feels heavier than the X-lite X802. But the factors that swayed me were:

1. Putting on the X-802 involved some effort. The X-lite didn't go over my head easily. Had to press down, move forward a bit, shift left, shift right, etc etc. The X11 went on like it was tailor-made for me. It just slipped on nicely and snugly.

2. The X-802 had a larger shell size. I put them side to side and the height difference in the helmets is very noticable. The effect? The X-802 had a more 'fish bowl on my head' look than the X-11.

3. The X-802 squeaked when it was on my head - as my move my head around, the movement of the liner within the shell gave off squeaks. Not loud or annoying, but very noticable when the X-11 made no noise whatsoever. I fear it may possibly be a build quality issue, but I'm not sure.

4. The chin bar of the X-802 was way too close to my chin. When I pushed the chin bar towards my chin, there was enough motion for the chin bar to contact my chin. So in a crash, I expect the chin bar will, in some way, damage my chin/jaw.

5. No PSB sticker. I understand many see this is a waste of time, but for me at least, it is a factor to be considered.

I can honestly say I went into the shops looking for the lightest helmet. And if I went on that basis alone, I would've bought the X-802. I would've also bought the X-802 if I valued how luxurious the liner material was above all else. But the fact of the matter was that it just didn't fit me well (it had like a B+ fit, X-11 had a A+ fit). So even if it's light and the inside was five-star, the other negative aspects would've bugged me in due time. Proper fit = safety. Since I was buying for improved safety, proper fit trumped all other factors and the X-11 won for that reason. X-11's secondary winning factor was ventilation. Of course just because the X-11 fitted me perfectly doesn't mean it'll fit everyone perfectly - there is the factor of head shapes/sizes.

I must say I'm very curious about the Ben Spies replica HJC, but I get the feeling it won't fit me as well as the X-11. I'm not going to go and find out if this is the case because it's too early to buy another expensive helmet! Is the HJC PSB-stickered?

@ink hey buddy, do you mind PM-ing me what you paid for your Xlite X802? I'm getting itchy fingers again and may want to buy the X802.

Also, could you rate on a scale of 1 to 5 the following aspects from your experience with the Xlite:

1. Venting from top inlets

2. Venting from chin inlet

3. Noise

Thanks! :cheeky:

I love the x-lite x802 astronaut version. Looks damn nice! But too poor to actually buy it. So far only Valentino Rossi and Lorenzo seem to play around with their racing leather and helmet design. Bet their sponsers are happier they have more models to sell! =0)

paid 630 for it...and all e ventings actually work..noise is minimal cause i got an s size...really sticks to my head even though initially it felt tight but after awhile e cheek pads follow my cheeks contour..

Sweet. Thanks ink. I'm saving up and will most likely be getting the new Lorenzo replica when it comes out later this year. Great to hear the ventilation works well (cos that's one thing that is difficult to check without buying the helmet and testing it out on the road!).

I've been told that the newer model will come with the Spartan logo at the back later this year - that will be understated and classy and might make the perfect track day helmet.

This is now in stock at Ch*ng A*k. I bought mine at $650 (retail price, I pushed a little for a discount but didn't really care - I just wanted the helmet!).

Weight: 1250g in small. In common parlance, it's ridiculously light. The Shoei X-11 is meant to be light (I have one), but the difference between the two is significant. My wife did a blind test of picking the two up and she was taken aback by the difference. I think it's probably lighter than the AGV GP Tech (I tried one on at Reg*na a while back), but won't know for sure until my eBay-sourced GP Tech arrives in a week or so. The weight difference is also very noticeable when riding.

Fit: I whinged last time about how it took longer to shuffle the helmet on my head for a proper fit compared to the X-11. I sort of regret that comment. The X-11 is still amazingly easy to put on, everything slides in place in one smooth movement. But the X802 isn't exactly a hassle. The helmet sits differently on your head - a little higher than the X-11 (i.e. the cheek pads sit much higher up the cheek). Once you appreciate this, there's little fiddling required. I also regret the other comments I made: fishbowl head - not at all when it's sat right, same with the chin bar being too close. The inner liner material is outstanding. Soft microfibre goodness - smells great too.

Ventilation: Not as good as the X-11, but very close! At slow speeds, I cracked the visor open one notch because I couldn't really feel the vents working (this is where the X-11 is much better). At 35-40km/h above, I closed it shut and let the vents do their thing. I'm very pleased with it overall.

Visibility: Vision in the vertical axis seems much better than the X-11 (esp when crouched over a sportsbike). Peripheral vision might be a little less, but I think I need more time using both helmets to be sure.

Wind Buffeting: Non-existent at legal speeds. So far I haven't gone much over 90+km/h with the helmet on, so I'm not sure about track speeds. But the helmet has an adjustable wing at the back, similar to the Arai RX7. I extended the wing fully in use, which gave it a similar side-view appearance as the X-11 and its back spoiler. Blindspot checking and general movements of the head did not cause undesirable buffeting.

Graphics: I got the black Lorenzo replica. The glossy coat makes it shine and gives it a sharp look. BUT it is a fingerprint magnet! Thankfully X-lite provide a nice polishing cloth for you to spend quality time after a ride polishing your helmet back to its glossy sheen! The decal outline of the Spartan logo at the back is very visible, but I guess this is understandable given the glossy black background. I am now terribly tempted to spend some AWS money later this month on the Stoner Phillip Island replica. I wish people would just stop making nicer and nicer helmets.

PS: Like the earlier model, the helmet is not PSB certified. I've abandoned my old 'I should buy PSB helmets exclusively' policy because I really wanted the helmet.
