Whose parents don't know that you're riding? *raise hand*

Hi all! Just curious how many riders here are riding without their parents' consent, wondering if there are any rider who has successfully hide his/her secret for a long period of time.

Waiting for to take my TP, almost 1 year has passed since I started learning. Bought my bike with my own personal savings, hence they have no idea!

Yup, I do intend to let them know, but only after riding for a few years. I want to prove to them that I am actually a safe and cautious rider, not like those reckless riders on the road which we see so frequently..

Posted

Yeah, that is very true. That was their reason when they objected to my learning. I guess I will just ride until they find out, then from there on, decide whether to continue on or not. :)

Ya, actually I'm a little scared to ride alone on major roads. Saw the accident videos during the theory lessons, very scary. So many vehicles driving along you, will definitely feel very vulnerable. So, I'm trying to find all sort of preventive measures like buy ff helmet, protective apparels etc. I know these won't prevent the accident, but hopefully (touch wood!), if get into accident, the damage is less severe. :x

I take another approach. Both my parents disagree, although not vehemently cos I'm too old for that. I just make sure they know I'm learning to ride. They can disagree, but I still continue.

It's better than *touchwood* let's say anything happen and they are surprised.

When I was in Philippines my grand father taught me to drive car when I was P6(I think around 12) then with knowledge of gear shifting I tried motor bike when I was 15 when modifying motorbikes become popular there. My dad always scold me coz I'm driving without license then we moved to SG, now I'm 19 then decided to take 2b. Some more he sponsor me:))

My bike is currently at my friend's house. She is helping me to startup the bike etc. While the helmets are at my hostel. Fortunately :) Previously, she kept them for me too.

Did they insist that you sell away the bike etc? I'm curious to how you handled the matter. :p

i totally agree with silverelf opinions.

its better for your parents to at least know you are riding, and they will not be surprised or shocked when things happen.

usually when u say u want to start riding, parents will kpkb, say riding very dangerous, neighbours also say dangerous, their friends also say dangerous. but i jus use my uncles as examples, who have been riding for almost thirty years daily yet they are still looking good now.

it takes time for them to understand and accept, but if your parents are those tyrannical types, wow, den mayb much tougher.

spark plugs, air filter, coolant, engine oil & oil filter, OWS flush, front forks, front wheel bearing, brake pads, brake fluid, alarm, carb washed, steering cone, rear brake light, fuel filter, jets, front tyre, dyna carb tuning, rear tyre, rear tyre inner tubing, rear wheel bearing, fuel tubing, alternator, rectifier, battery, valve clearance/top overhaul, chain & sprocket.

Honda Rebel, a cruiser bike. I have absolutely no interest in sports bike, think they are kind of dangerous. I am enrolled in CDC, waiting for my TP next week. Oh, and my bike box is big enough to fit 2 FF helmets. :)

Probably slightly more than 50% older than you are. :p

In 2 weeks time, 20yo.

As much as I want to tell my parents that I am riding, they will immediately say no, and force me to sell my bike and equipments. What's worst is that they might also force me to travel home everyday instead of staying in hall, which will be very troublesome for me. Sadly, I don't know anyone who has been riding for a long period of time, also my mom's younger bro passed away in a bike related accident decades ago, so it would be difficult to persuade them. I intend to inform them when I start working, now still schooling.

i bought my bike and rode it almost everyday and only told my parents after 6 months. and then they didnt talk to me for 1 week.

Of course they did. Like I mentioned, all hell broke loose. Did not speak to me for a week. But I stayed firm.

Even after all these years, they are still bugging me to sell my bikes. Parents will always be parents.

On the contary, sports bikes are generally safer than cruisers, at least for those in the class 2 range. Sports bikes usually have the latest high-end brakes, good suspension, good tires, good handling. Cruisers on the other hand, have weird riding position, bad handling, poor suspension, yucky brakes. So, which bike is safer?
