guys...how do i test ride a bike (buyer) if it is being laid up and cannot leave the carpark??

by right you are not supposed to test ride a bike, layed up or not. cos the insurance does not cover you. so, ask the seller if you can start the bike, let it warm up a little and hear for any problems with the bike..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

oh? is that the norm when buying a 2nd hand bike?

if no test ride then how to know if there are any hidden problems with engine, especially when in higher gear?

if bike starts up alright and engine sounds good = bike OK??

that's the risk when you are buying 2nd hand bike. its illegal to ride without valid insurance. worse case scenario, lets say the moment you test ride out of carpark police stop you for check, you and seller will be in trouble.

no it doesnt mean its ok, but at least chances of major problems are reduced. if you scared, then buy 1st hand lor.

all else being said, do what you want, but dont get caught.

stay in condo also means must bring bike all the way to condo? how's that possible when bike can't even leave the open air carpark?

haha. no problem lah, i'll figure it out. thanks so much for the info.

btw, anyone knows how much it'll cost to put the IU back onto the bike?

should that come under my cost or seller??

I bought the new IU for $150~

Actually can DIY fix yourself, but better to askthe VICOM people fix for you since you buy from them.

Laid up if park in condo, must get letter from the building manager that the bike is allowed to park there hor!

Don't go LTA do laid up before you got the letter. Otherwise they will ask you to park HDB carpark and you Bo Bian have to buy season parking, and once done cannot move the bike, unless you inform LTA and call tow truck.
