Thanks Clarence and Adzz! I'm riding it to work and using the bike as daily commute purposes. Any advise on run-in? Do I maintain a steady 7-8K RPM and try not to go above 80km? PS: The LED headlights are so cool!

Posted

I was advised by Roy not to hit beyond 7k rpm for the first 500km. After the 1st servicing, he said can hit 8k rpm, speed around 90km/h. What matters more is not too rev to 7-8k rpm from stop. I usually hit 5k, pick up a bit of speed, before hitting 7k rpm.

Errmmmm.. With due respect fesa7044 I'm riding a S3, don't think I should be joining a Ducati gathering? I believe I'd be more comfortable with a S3 gathering. No offence. Thank you!

Fierce ride!

@hishouken. I'm not sure if there's any kopi session. Haha. Maybe 2 years ago got, now this thread quite quiet too. I guess all the S3-ers now riding more powerful bikes already. :)

I'm using the S3 more commuting purposes too. Used to cycle, now riding instead. :) Appreciating the bike more these days, though my mind keep thinking of the more powerful scooters around, but till I get my class 2A and 2. My friend severely poisoned me with his T-max.

Hi there, I bought a car and I want to let go my 1 year old S3, Plate no FBF4XXX, low mileage close to 7000km. Still under 2-year dealer's warranty. Excellent condition. I thought of keeping it but too comfortable with the car and my S3 has since been untouched at the carpark. Interested contact me at 9.7.2.4.9.4.2.2

@Adzz, I guess it will eventually come to this -> ex-S3 owners moved on to bigger bikes once they get their 2A/2. The same applies to us later as well. However there will always be new 2B riders and I hope they join us in the joy of riding a S3. Some of my friends are wondering why I get this bike. After they saw the bike in person, they admit that it is pretty. With the LED highlights and the keyless tech., I can say they are slightly impressed. Well, I feel proud of course. My friends are on street bikes and cruisers.

Further, my S3 body is black. I was given an option by CKA to change it to white later once body parts came in. I'm keeping an open mind for now. Black is sexy, but white is the new trend. Anyways, let's see how later.

@yang2, alas if only you advertised your bike a week early perhaps I would be viewing and considering your 1 year old S3. :)

I initially thought white looks nice. But on viewing at CKA, it looks a bit too uncle-ish. Haha, not that I am that young, but I prefer the all black look, even from viewing on their website. Yea, the keyless tech is great, although sometimes I'm a bit worried that it will just fail me one of these days, but well.. One of my friends, when I told him that I ride a scooter, he immediately associate to those of uncle bikes, but when he saw the bike in person, he immediately told me that he take back the words he said. And impressed with the design of the S3.

No regrets getting the S3, maybe a second hand will save more money, but I wanted a brand new for my very first ride. I got my 2B 3 years but only started really riding 1 month back. In fact almost buang while moving out from CKA, and all the U-turns here and there. 1 month of riding improves everything. lane spilt is still a bit challenging for me, but I still do it nevertheless.

The only problem is overtaking cars in lane 1.5. I tried, and cannot move up, coz still running in, and max 90km/h. Eventually fall back to lane 2. Shall try again when it hits 3,000km. If the JB bikes can do it, I dont see why S3 cannot with a bit of 9-10k RPM throttle. :)

Most friends (bikers and non-bikers) I spoke to advised that I keep the bike in black. Compelling reasons are: Black = Sleek. One biker friend pointed out that as a new rider there will always be at LEAST one time your bike falls on its side, that is when white will bring up any scratches or flaws very obviously. And yes you are right in a way on the Uncle-ish – The last white S3 at CKA Toh Guan was brought by a Ah Pek… HAHAHAHA! :)

I’ve a concern on the keyless tech too. Let’s not worry about it too much and enjoy the keyless praise from friends – They asked: You don’t need to lock your bike? Where’s the key? I’d just walked away at least a metre and asked them to try starting the bike. This is cool!

I’m still getting used to the bike and the handling. Its very different from the CB125 at BBDC. So far so good. Its very comfortable. Although I have a free half0face helmet from CKA, I’m getting a modular full face helmet from Helmetboys soon.

I have tried your method to maintain at 7k rpm. Oh boy its constant at 60km and I’m keeping to the left lanes as much as I can. Looking forward to first servicing now.

Nice to hear you are getting on fine. The first 500km is horrible. So don't bother hitting 500km to first servicing. I changed mine at 391km, and anytime earlier if you want. Once the EO is changed, you feel the difference immediately. More responsive. I pumping 8000 Esso, maybe that's the reason too, but for 1 dollar more per pump. I guess I have nothing much to lose.

I'm planning to take 2A soon, wanna do together? :) Changed my helmet the very weekend. The free helmet sucks. lol.. 189 and worth it. Rain jacket from Regina too. Total 250. Good buy.

Alas, a nasty or dunno what the hell the taxi driver is doing. I on extreme left to exit, the driver has to be in middle of two lane and so damn close to me. Rev and pull away. Crap.

Posted

Thanks for the offer but I just got my 2B last month :) I'm now thinking of getting a jacket to ride, the windbreaker I have now is too loose... For the modular helmet, I have decided not to order direct, instead I'm going down to HelmetBoy shop to take a look. Perhaps try out other helmets and gloves too. Since its the helmet is something to keep for a long time might as well get one that is truly comfortable with.

I have few occasions of bad experiences with usually cabbies while driving and riding as well. At minimum there are always 2 types of vehicles to watch out for (1) Taxis, (2) L-Plates. :D

I bought it for 8,800 OTR. 250cc from what someone mention here, CKA is considering. If there are bringing in, I may just get the 250cc in future. So far, no problems on the road. Friendly service from CKA too!

@Adzz, any ideas where to get a nice jacket for casual riding? Not sure if leather is appropriate... Seen ah peks with windbreakers/ jackets & i dun want to look like ah pek although I'm not that young myself. Hahaha!

Reaching 200km soon. Yah, perhaps go servicing in 2 weeks before the recommended 500. :)

According to CKA facebook, S3 250cc is coming next week to all branches.

I've gotten myself a Komine mesh armored jacket (only forearm, elbow, shoulder armored. Back and chest armor additional cost) after I fell for the first time at Emergency brake in CDC. That fall totally torn my OGK thick raincoat (it was raining) and bruised me here and there so I decided to go for armored jacket.

After a walk at MotoWorld Ubi, I ended buying this mesh jacket at $150 or $160 (if I recall correctly).

I ended up with another fall at E-brake again during my first prac 8, but no visible damage to the jacket. I hit my right forearm on the corner of the kerb (the area where they have wheels covering, not sure what I hit also), direct impact. Stand up and tried to push my bike up. The instructors rushed to me and 1 of them asked if I'm ok,while another replied to him, "with this jacket, no problem lah.. without the jacket, I don't think he can stand up liao.."

If you worry about heat and such, I can wear this at CDC during noon-2pm time and I think the airflow is good enough for me.

@hishouken, haha, I'm 31 now. Not young, but not that old too. Lol. Depends on your style too for the jacket. I don't wear any jacket, coz I enjoy the cool breeze that comes with high speed. But only thing is getting dirtier. But if wash clothes often, it's fine IMO. Can try motoworld. Lots of poison. I went there today and so tempted to buy bike washing stuff. Muc Off.

@WarForGe, your jacket looks very stylish. I might consider if it helps in protecting oneself. Now see the 250cc coming so tempted. Not that I can get immediately coz still 2B after 3 years. Time to take 2A. My friend keep poisoning me with his TMax 2012 though. :p

Hi to S3 bro here! Coming Monday i'm going down to book a S3. Was thinkin of 250cc but in the end decided on 125cc.

Last time owned Scooter before

2B Piaggio Skipper 125cc 2-Stroke

2A Honda Forza 250cc 4-Stroke

Hope to see u all soon! =D

Hi @foxz15, sorry, but what's the reason for not taking the 250cc? I definitely would prefer a slightly more powerful bike. But since I don't have a 2A for now, and just gotten the 125cc, so sticking with it.

But after 1 month of riding the 125cc S3, I don't think it's that underpowered too. Suits well for urban riding. And the pickup is good so far, no frustrated drivers that honked me for being too slow.

Welcome to the club! :)
