just took a spill... riders be careful out there this monsoon...

was out on my wife's bike tonight. she was the pillon.

had a black audi a8 on my tail and side for many traffic lights.

tried my best to stay sensible and not get egged on... really wet roads tonight (sun late night).

two lane road. cab swerved out from bus stop bay. i looked for the escape route in my bubble... the b@$tard audi cut my path off by closing up the gap i was going to take (it was a straight road, and it was done on purpose).

all the training and courses i've had in the past 12 years of riding was not enough to make time stop, but thankfully i didn't touch either motor cars nor did we get thrown forward.

i had no other choice... i spilled and everything else was just a blur.

audi driver floored it when he saw the sparks coming off the sliding toppled bike.

the cabbie slowed down, and sped off. a few cars came by, changed lanes to avoid my bike but no one stopped.

i stood in the middle of the road and stretched out my arms, and since it was past midnight, not many cars were headed for us at all. my senses came around and i immediately shouted for my wife to head for the sidewalk.

i then stepped off the road too, when she got off the road. and then the waiting began as cars began to zip by.

an off-duty bus stopped and its driver motioned for me to pick up the bike when a fellow bus driver also stopped: to block off both lanes.

lifted the bike off with my back... and rolled it to the double yellow lines. leaking fluids remained where the bike used to lay. not a good sign.

i tried my best to restart the bike, and it soon gurgled back to life... rode home alone and went back to pick up my wife in a car.

bad news: i was wearing berms and t-shirt. only. blood got everywhere in the car.

good news: my wife had her riding jacket on.

bad news: she had her 3/4 cotton pants on. plus her brand new pair of fitflops...

good news: we both wore full face shoei helmets.

bad news: my shoei TZ-R and her shoei RF-1000 is now for display only.

my left butt and back is all chaffed and bruised and cut up. i'm gonna feel it tomorrow.

my left palm is totally wrecked. my right elbow and right knee is also scratched up pretty bad.

both my wife's feet have bad cuts. she's very very upset and wants me to sell off all our bikes. whaaaaoooo...

it feels good to gun it from time to time, but your bike's limits change when the weather changes.

the monsoon is out and about. the roads, even hours after the rain, can be very slippery on sticky rubbers, so dry weather training will not necessarily work.

be safe out there everyone. i'm off to patch the wife up!

Felt sad to know that both of u got injured caused by the A8 driver. That fellow is a typical inconsiderate & dangerous driver that might just causes more accidents to other road users. Did u manage to take down the registration no. of that car? If yes, do lodge a police report asap so that he will be taken care of by the authorities. Drivers like him must be taken off the road to prevent others from being harm. Hope both u & your wife will have a speedy recovery.

looks more like the cabby's fault then the audi. after all it was the cab that caused you to take evasive manuevers. the audi was in the wrong place at the wrong time. speedy recovery, and ride safe.

how do u know the audi purposely ??

maybe he really didint know ???

the audi has been beside, behind and in front of me for many a traffic lights. he'll speed up when i speed up. he'll slow when i go slow. he floors it when the light goes green, only to slow down when he sees that i'm not taking his bait. but when i speed up... again he'll floor it.

the road where the incident took place was a straight road. there was no reason for the audi to slow down ONLY when i was trying to go behind him (his brake lights came on), AND THEN he steered left to close the gap between his car and the taxi - there was originally enough space for me to gas out between the 2 cars.

when i looked ahead while lying on the ground when i stopped rolling around on the road, i can see his car was VERY VERY far away (no traffic on that road at the time). the taxi slowed (again, brake lights came on), and then he too, sped off.

as there were no vehicles behind me, only did i dare do such a maneuver - my wife and i would otherwise have been run over by cars/trucks behind us. whatever the case, it was a split second decision to check blind spot, filter right, saw that the gap got closed, controlled braking, check rear view mirror for cars behind me and then make sure i don't hit either the cab or the audi or i'd be thrown off, then a controlled slide...

the fireworks coming off the bike on a quiet road like that is bound to seen in the rear view mirror of any car that was within such close distance of a bike - plus i'm sure there was a sound of the bike scraping along the road and the sight of a coupla guys tumbling on the road.

i had to go to the clinic with my wife today. a lot of dirt in our wounds. the bubbling hydrogen peroxide stings like hell... and my palm is going to take at least 2 weeks to DRY UP (not heal) because i lost a giant layer of skin. my ass hurts and leaks blood and my back and elbow still smarts.

i just made a police report, but i doubt it will help. if in any case, i might get slapped with a fine for "losing control" of my bike.

a sport bike got into an accident just before i left the police station. i hope the rider is okay.

i'm selling off my bikes when i've recovered. no choice... the wife has imposed a total ban on riding in singapore. meanwhile with my busted palm, i can't ride either.

IF ONLY WE HAD WORN OUR JACKETS, RIDING PANTS/JEANS, COVERED SHOES AND GLOVES, we would have been physically fine.

A wake up call to all riders out there, "DO WEAR PROPER RIDING GEARS". Though it doesn't guarantee that u will be alright, but it's might lessen the damages. I really feel worry for those that can just ride with slippers, especially during rainy days. They won't know how scary it will be if they fall.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope the wounds heal quick.

Has wifey cooled down about selling the bikes? I can imagine mine going ape-sh*t if we crashed - which is why I never pillion her or anyone else for that matter. I guess this strategy only works if you're riding for fun, and not for transport (which I presume you are since you have a car).

Gearing up for safety in SG is no easy task - I ride weekends before the sun really comes up and even then it sucks because of the unrelenting humidity. I used to rock a proper textile armoured jacket, but have now reverted back to my original mesh armoured jacket. I want to be safe, but the heat and humidity is just too much for a textile jacket. The guys who wear perforated leather jackets here have my respect. Anyway, I hope you get to convince your better half to allow you to keep at least one bike (I'd keep the Duc :)) on the proviso that you will ALWAYS gear up.

Take care fella.

Another call to all riders, now a days morning road wet, then hot sun in the morning and early afternoons followed by rain again.

Please ride safely! Gear up if need be... Don't get your own learning experience, learn from others...

Ride safe all

again, hope you have a speedy recovery and thanks for sharing
