I was misleaded to think tt BMW engine runs only on cheapo oil, after much reading, I understand that an engine is an engine, it can runs on cheapo oil as well as superior syn oil. you can run a 1931 tracker engine with syn oil if you want. If you ask those Ah Beng's mech and if they want to earn yr $, they will tell you to use Syn oil cause it is "thin" and mineral oil "thick", KNN, wonder how do they measure tt, understand professional can't tell the "thickness" too, wonder how they do it :thumb: guess they uses LULER.

Not tt I despise them, just don't feel good to be misleaded and treated like an idiot.

I was misleaded into many things by those Beng's mech, like sparkplugs, they told me is "start plug", shaft driven, they told me is SAAB driven, so maru, when replacing shaft, the more educated mech told me they have one ALFA ROMEO for sale, but not SAAB. KNN.

Good comparision between Stocker and Aftermarket side cases.

Photoshop or real. So many panniers, why nobody put 2 panniers infront, like those mountain bikes.

:sorry: miss out the word "comparision".

Wow, seem like this is the latest trend after they use it on HP2. Hmm, I will stick to my O-ling for another 80,000km - just service it last year leh. Hope, they will come up with something new. Gel shocks, hehehe.

They are light for sure, And Air is naturally "damping" in nature. Just 1 worry though, should the bladder burst, then the shocks will bottom out. Unlike conventional shocks, there's still the spring to go :bounce:

Or should there be a worry in the first place, with our kind of "amaturish" riding and regular maintenance, should works out :cheeky:

Eh...... why do you wanna flush your engine?? If you top up the oil reguarly, then normal oil change will do. Unless you suspect that there's something wrong with the one in your engine.

If you have mineral oil inside your engine now and you wanna change to syn, then I would recommend flushing. I read that mixing of mineral and syn will result in a mixture that's worse then either, and the mineral portion will "sludge" and sink. So if thats your situation, then just flush with the one that you're gonna replace with.

As to how it should be done, I don't think there is a "proper" method of doin it, just a question of how thorough it can be. I would just drain out as much of the original oil as possible and top up with a liter of the replacement and run the engine for a while, say 5~10mins, keeping tabs on the engine temp. Then drain that stuff out and fill up again, change the oil filter, and I'm good to go. Residual will be thinned out with subsequent oil top up and replacement.

BM only specified the weight of the oil. Unless you have the older engines that still uses 'chrome' internals like pistons and crank, then syn might not be suitable. But for our case, mineral or syn should do just fine.

I'm using Castrol Activ now.

Sorry guys, just gotta add that in, knowing that there are so many 'vigilantes' out there just waiting for an opportunity to jump in and http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/images/hottopic.gif

orrhh, tat day at technflex saw my valve covers being taken out to do valve clearance then saw tis thick film(some more stuck to the cover liao) of engine oil on the valve covers n also the valves so chua n eris recommend doin an engine flush with a engine flush chemical to clean up the sludge in the internals so was tinkin of using cheap cheap oil to flush the engine then change back to my usual stuff after 2 engine flushings(if all use my normal oil gonna cost 100plus liao). tats y lookin at minerals or cheap synth 1s cause more economic. anyway if i use minerals then after tat i switch back to synth is ok rite juz tat i need to change oil at scheduled intervals to so called make the mixture of the oil i was using previously thicker rite

Say what http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/headscratch.gif

After all the flushing, and if you wanna use syn eventually, use syn. Why do you wanna go back to mineral and back to syn again http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/headscratch.gif

Or am I being confuse here http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/headscratch.gif http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/headscratch.gif

I think there's alway wear and tear for everything, think of it, you suffer only once or twice, for me is twice, the initial payment for the suspension and when it breaks down. Suspension should last at least 75,000km before servicing - Orange recommendation, I serviced mine at 117,000km when there's no damping and bearing wore out but it still holds the bike well on straight road riding.

So, you actually enjoy 75,000km of ride or for a period of 75 months or 6.25years or 300weeks, subject to 1000km usuage per month. I think it's worth it as long as you love the suspension, further, suspension save life especially people like you love to buay exhaust, engine covers and crash bars.
