The service at PML is clearly more expensive than all other motorcycle workshops in Singapore, but not really overly expensive.

But the quality of work is far ahead of any other workshop. I can clearly see the team is trained in Germany.

I had my share of problems with the manager, Kris. But I can not say anything negative about their quality of work. I hope it stays that way, because I value quality work.

The last time I did service with PML it was a good experience. Kris was responsive, and did his job as customer service. Somehow after the bike came back from agent there's this "agent serviced" feel good thing :)

I understand that now Mustafa has gone to cars, and the bike tech is a chap called Brian. Spoke with him when I was there couple of months ago, friendly and sounded he knows his stuff.

BTW, anyone knows a guy called "Joe"? Rides a GS1200 and apparently a couple of older bikes. Stout, about 1.7 i reckon. Met him at PML, quite a friendly chap, if anyone has his contact, would like it via PM.

Cheers

Hi Peter, your recent Australia trip on your Singapore registered GS should be an interesting read, please shall with us the story.

Some mates warned me about not continue to have PML stamps on the service booklet

Phang, the service stamps can sometimes prove to be very important. If you claim warranty cases or after warranty 'good-will' from BMW, your chances are much higher, because BMW gives thumbs up for a proper serviced bike.

About my trip, look here http://gsri.info/forum/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=232 . I have plenty of photos, still editing them. Check back in a few days.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter

I'm guessing the whole cost of shipping the bike into Darwin costs less than S$1000? If so, sounds good at least for me. Would love to know more about this trip of yours. Waiting for the rest of the segments. :thumb:

Well Peter, you have a point there. If BMW is extending after warranty good-will on older bikes, I have a long wish list:P

Shipping to Darwin was S$ 750, all in. Shipping back from Perth was S$ 1500, but they sort of cheated me. It was my first time, and nothing can replace experience. Since I know now better, this can also be done for ~ $1000, or less.

Administrative stuff is a core (on the Singapore side), and the resistance. Everybody said 'don't do it'! , but I did. On arrival in Australia the bike needs to be showroom-clean, and no funny things in the luggage.

The stock nuts holding the front brake rotors on my r1150 are rusting, sigh.

Anyone ever installed aftermarket stainless steel ones to replace? These are brakes we are dealing with, hence I am tad apprehensive. Also any idea where to buy anti-seize compound?

cheers

This is a good one from peter-k

Rusty bolts on the front rotor

stainless steel bolt may not have the strength of the stock torx bolt. I bought a set of stock bolts for my rear brake rotor, they are Grade 8.8 (medium carbon steel, quenched and tempered) steel bolts.

My R1100R needs a new V-belt to drive the alternator. Does anyone know how much does it cost to replace a new V-belt?

Does PML carry stock for body parts, ie license plate carrier and rear mud guards? Is there a number to call that connects straight to their spares parts counter?

My R1100R needs a fair bit of touching up and parts replacement.

Thanks.

Hi F650GS,

Manage to get the parts I wanted by providing the part numbers to dili trading.

Brought my bike there for servicing as the previous owner had laid up the bike for quite a while. The bike had all the fluids renewed. Engine oil, shaft oil, rear drive oil and front and rear brake fluid.

Changed the spark plugs, rear brake pads, fuel filter and alternator V-belt. Replaced the license plate carrier as it was broken. Added a rubber spacer to the front shock as the old rubber spacer was worn.

The mechanic at Dili was friendly and professional. They gave the bike's exterior a good wash down with some chemical that removes most grime, dirt and grease. I wonder what chemical they had used, it was very effective. Only thing that they did not do was to grease all moving parts, I'm using WD-40 for all joints.

Total labour cost was $120.

Original BMW parts cost was not too bad, comparable to japanese parts.

ABS light was still flashing. Consulted Alex at Stamford motors and he mentioned something about the brake affecting ABS error lights. Not really convinced. He advised me to ride the bike for a while and monitor.

Nice ride. Very mechanical feel about the BMW that is very different from the japanese makes.

glad you like your ride :)

did the abs light flashes alternately ? or at the same time? some say could be the battery problem.... and did the ex owner pass you two keys? better to have a backup. I lost my only key and had to order a pre-cut ones from pml at $58 each and had to wait for it to arrived from germany and also another $30 for towing the bike back home...the blank ones only cost $13
