bikermeow, slowkitty, coolcat, I can’t believe this chromed cover cost US$273 a piece. I am tossing around the idea of sandblasting away the chrome finishing and send it for a clear anodizing (the cover is made of cast aluminum) so that it wouldn't appear too blink..

Phang, it's BMW, so believe it.

Actually, the cover is cheap. It's the roundel in the middle that takes up most of the cost.

Each alphabet in "B" "M" "W" cost US$100. So you've got yourself a bargain! :D

Phang, anodising it may not be a great fix cos' I thiink that it will be pitted from riding unless you get a fender extenda. Solution is the stock plastic one. Sell this and make some money in the process. The R1200C guys would want this.

Rode in last night for a fuel run, customs and immigration was quiet, and it was great to stretch my roadie's legs. Noticed though that my right mirror vibrates more than my left. Well, it's character :)

Selamat Hari Raya to all Muslim friends!

Cheers

Currypuff, you are right, I guess that’s the reason they stamp the roundel on almost every parts to justify the price.

Spot the roundels

I went for my usual battery charging loop yesterday and noticed the same, right mirror vibrates more than the left one. My FC stays at 22KM/L (+/- 0.5KM/L) consistently.

My other naked, 8 valves, carburetors fed air cooled twin uses a liter of fuel every 24KM but the engine capacity is only 1/3 of the Roadster. It is either the R259 engine is very efficient or there is a problem with my other bike.

Wow, I didn't notice that. That is merchandizing that puts George Lucas to shame!

Imagine. Nut from 3rd party supplier without BMW logo: $0.2. After factory stamp logo: $20!:giddy: Any wonder why they can afford to employ those young receptionists with sexy voices just to make phone calls (to coolcat)?:D

Is it not possible to get a big piece of plastic like those ventura headlight protectors, cut into shape, and stick in front of the cover? This way, you have (less) worry of stones chipping away the chrome.

That is, if you really like the chrome cover enough to go through the trouble...

We have all kinds of bikes in our touring group, and the Harleys and beemers usually have the lowest fuel consumption, compared to Japanese bikes.

But then, they generally have less HP also. It's difficult to overcome the power/mileage tradeoff. So I don't think it's a problem with your other bikes.

Another example of product branding is Wunderlich.

Do you really need to pay US$8 for their funnel, or can the one on the right do the job?

I guess the wunderlich is made of superior plastic so all the oil will flow into the engine and not a bit is wasted sticking on the funnel..

Freedom... man's best friend

I have a stainless steel funnel (strictly for engine oil) for many years, very easy to clean and it can last a long long time :thirsty:

I hate plastic funnel, very difficult to clean and remain greasy forever.

seems there's isnt much choice in tyres for size 160/60-18.common brand is the bridgestone BT021, which is good and value for money but i want to try sumthin else.most come in 17" variant.michelin pilot road 2 is wat i'm eyeing but they're out of stock islandwide from wat i gather. metzeler's new Roadtec Z6 is quite awesome too.Unique Motorsport has a huge inventory of tyres but the only 18 incher they have is the BT020.old stuff

Anyone going next weekend?

Sunkist79 are u refering to the PML Kuantan ride on 3-4 Oct.

I intend to join...just need a little push...you going?

Posted

I have signed up. Those still thinking of going, better call PML to reserve ASAP. Last year, some who signed up at the last minute were rejected. As PML subsidize such trips heavily, they were popular. Deadline is this Sat.

I like BT-020 tires. My rear lasted nearly 3 years before I changed it last month (don't try this at home, folks). They grip fine too. The only issue I have is they tend to lose a lot of air. I have to use the air pump every time I fill up.

there're two versions(models) of the 650GS, basically the year of manufacturing determines the newer or older one.

the '99-'07 F650GS and

'08- current F650GS "Twin" as some might call them...

WHICH ARE YOU REFERRING TO?

both are designated as F650 but the 2008 models are parallel twin engines as compared to the older single cylinder ones. this is the biggest difference, besides the obvious price factor!

read up on this. was posted months ago...i must add that enduro bikes like the GS arent that really suited for 'high speed' riding. comfortable cruising @ 140km/h depending on the R or F series...

no problem! the only big difference is in the pricing, and the GS650Twin comes with a single front disc only. Good bike to get, loads of aftermarket accesorries; some needful, others just nice to have.
