Fitting exhaust myself - Is this acceptable for LTA approval?

Recommended Posts

I've got an exhaust I want to fit to my bike, which will need LTA approval.

However I'd rather fit it myself than pay a shop. Question is, will the LTA allow this for when I have the exhaust inspected/approved? Or does it have to be done by a shop?

yes bike shop mech are also human you also human so it the same who fixing it up.but the prob is when u buy the exhaust the shop already charge you labour inside for it.unless you shop say labour excluded then recommand u fix your self. just go vicom and inspect after u fix it up.but be prepare to wait for the doc to be ready take quite some time.

If only time can roll back,i wish i can go back to my 2b times. Where bikers are friendly and helpful..

Thanks, I was just thinking whether the LTA wanted to see a installation certificate or receipt of some kind.

yes they do. LTA requires a letter of proper installation from the bikeshop.

I bought an LV pipe for my CBR last year. Brought it to inspection center, and fixed it on the spot. Technician needs to inspect the bike after installation. If ok, they will process the paperwork.

Technically, you cannot ride the bike with new pipe before approval. Unless you tow the bike to inspection center, the only alternatives are to let the shop handle it, or you fix it there and then.

Past: KDX200, LC4 400, LC4 620, GSXR750WR

Present: CBR900RRY, Gas Gas EC250, XR250L, XR250RV, XR400 (motard-ed), NX650 Dominator

correction: you can ride to the inspection center with the new pipe affixed. so long you are able to prove either with documents like invoices that you just purchase the pipe and is awaiting for the necessary paperworks to be cleared, or with the paperworks and is on the way for inspections.

a street legal pipe is street legal no matter what. the inspection at the center is to finalize the protocols set by LTA to tie up aftermarket exhaust to the particular bike for record purposes.
