I'm having a strange problem with my IU. Or rather, 2 strange problems, which may or may not be inter related

1. The unit is unresponsive when I insert the cashcard. Screen doesn't come on, value is not displayed. I have checked the connections at the battery terminals, they seem to be ok. No idea what else I can check.

2. Notwithstanding the above, the unit can be detected by car park gantries. The trouble here is that the IU number being reported is completely different - instead of the actual 07117xxxxx number, it is now reporting "1096000001". Either because of this, or some other reason, my bike is being treated as a car and being charged accordingly. I am now having to tailgate out of my office carpark while they investigate the issue o_O

I will of course take it down for inspection as soon as I can, but was wondering if anybody has experienced this kind of malfunction before, or has any idea what could be causing it.

Thanks in advance for any information!

are you using the slim IU?if yes, water had gone into the IU.just wait for a few for days and it will be ok.

you can check it yourself using multimeter by,

checking the fuse

and any power supply to the IU.

go to IU inspection center to have your iu check/replace if yours still have warranty.

It's not a slim IU, it's the old kind. So probably not under warranty either.

Yeah, I'll check the power supply at the terminals... but is there a specific fuse I should be checking? Or any other point on the IU itself where I can check to see if it is receiving power?

Went to STA inspection at Ayer Rajah this morning. Turned out to be a faulty IU, needed to be replaced. Called a few people to see if I could source a reconditioned one, but couldn't get any leads so I just bought a new slim type one. Total damage $155.80 :sian:

Btw, in case you ever encounter reporting unit number as "1096000001", it means the unit itself is faulty. This seems to be the error code it reports.

Hey TS is the installation free ?

Can i buy the IU from them ( VICOM ) and bring down the IU to my own mechanic to fix it up on my bike ?

i doubt they let u buy, they need to tag the iu to ur bike number.

the installation is free, they just screw in to ur bracket, however i dont know if they sell the bracket (usually from bike shop). also if ur bike is full fairing, they might ask u to disassemble the fairing for them to fix.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

Yeah, as Arthur has said, installation is included in the price. I'm not sure what happens if your wiring is especially complicated or difficult...

You just need to route the wire to your battery thats all.

i think can either bring it to bike shop or VICOM for inspection and tell them your case..at least you can stop the charge based on car parking rates from now, if not it will be quite expensive when you are paying for car park rates..

Nah, my building car park folks are quite helpful, that was the least of my problems. But anyway, I had to replace the unit cos it was faulty and out of warranty.

Once they have tested and informed you that it's faulty, you will get a $70 fine if you go through any ERP gantry with the faulty unit.
