Hey there,

"Open trackdays" are track events that are typically organized by SIC (Sepang Int'l Circuit) themselves.

I'm not too sure whether they use the term "Single Slot sessions" just like you have mentioned, but if I'm not mistaken, it is actually called "Private Track Day." Nevertheless, I've put up some lists to try to make it easier to differentiate and hopefully, will help those who were wishing to make their first pilgrimage up to the Formula 1 track.

The similarities between Open and Private Trackdays:

- Bikes play on the racetrack, as long as it says "bike trackday" on the calendar, and not "car".

- Leather gear rules apply - they do shun any kind of textile gear

- SIC is not a walk-in, pay-to-play racetrack like Johor Circuit (PG). They schedule trackdays when they feel like it, or if somebody exclusively books the track - explained abovementioned.

Open trackdays:

- Are organized by SIC themselves

- Allows all kinds of bikes; SIC will segregate them between the Under-400cc and the above-400cc groups. Both will have 2 hours of playtime in their own slots.

- Fee per-rider is RM100 ($45) for under 400cc. For above 400cc, it's RM150 ($65)

- You ride in, and pay SIC the fee.

- Limited to around 30 riders for 2 hours, and SIC can change this as they see fit.

Private Trackdays

- Are when somebody, a biking group, or a company books the entire track for 2 hours from the SIC officials.

- The abovementioned decides what kinds of bikes they would allow. Most of the time, they only allow sportbikes (perhaps the group only focus on sportbikes).

- The abovementioned decides the fee per-rider. Most times, it may be higher by a few tens of ringgit, sometimes maybe a few hundred, to cover their cost of renting the entire track + any amenities they may bring themselves

- You need to know the abovementioned that's organizing this trackday and express to them that you want to join - typically from a forum, circle of biker friends joining the same private trackday, word of mouth... And you typically have to make payment to the abovementioned. Also...

- They decide how many riders max they can allow into the track. History has it that they allow as little as 20 riders max - complaints of too many riders on the track being a safety hazard etc...

Examples of individuals or groups that would organize a "Private" trackday would be our country's very own GO-PRO. Others would be Sportbike Malaysia Group, individual riders wanting to organize a trackday of their own, etc...

Hope this wasn't complicated, cheers :)

Thanx for the input...

http://www.malaysiangp.com.my/story/sepang-circuits-sepang-circuit-track-days

It says 300rm for cars and 200rm for bikes during single slot sessions.

and: http://www.malaysiangp.com.my/story/-circuit-activity-calendar#

On 18th - 20th April there is nothing stated. Does its mean its available?

So confusing lah...

Dear Omnislash,

Unlike Pasir Gudang, Sepang is a very busy circuit with lotsa private booking and international race. So, in this case, you CANNOT just go to Sepang and pay hourly basis like Pasir Gudang.

The Open Track day is very rare at Sepang. The Sepang website for Track Day dates are not reliable. Its better to call them @ +603-87782200 to check for the next available Open Track Day.

As mentioned by Redbeacon, alternatively you would want to participate in one of the Private Track Day organised by the Singapore groups. There are more than 10 private track days organised by our Singapore groups in total every year.

Since there are 2 groups from Singapore that organise private track day at Sepang, there are less Singapore riders that are willing to participate in Public OPEN track day that Sepang have occasionally.

These Private Track day have less people compared to the Public OPEN Track day. So you can enjoy riding in Sepang with less traffic on track. Bear in mind that during Open (weekend) Track Day, usually there are more than 80riders while the Private track day organised by the Singapore groups have limits to about 50 riders.

The main attraction with the Private track day is as following :-

- Less traffic on track

- Professionally organised with Safety as TOP priority

- Friendly environment

- Beginners are encouraged to participate as the organisers are there to give them an intro to Track Riding

In case you are not aware, the 2 Singapore Group that organised private track days at Sepang are the GO-PRO and the Rev Club.

You may want to contact them to check on the next available dates.

For GO-PRO, you can send them PM here or email them [email protected] or call them 6392 0749.

For Rev Club, you can send PM to either Scooby51, Hartholomew or Throttlestop.

Hope all the above helps and see you in Sepang (turn one) soon. :)

Cheers,

Doc
