Hey guys. I finally got to cleaning up my cloudy instrument, and to my dismay, the cloudy marks which i though was oily residue, didnt come off.

I tried glass cleaner, detergent, as well as a polishing compound. The compound wasnt very effective, and i had to scrub really hard before i see any difference. By this point, i was polishing hard enough to shake the instrument panel. Not good.

Ive read that you could boil off the calcium stains off glass using vinegar, but i doubt that the plastics will survive boiling.

Any ideas? Or proven cleaners i can use?

For me, i got my mech to clean it for me because he knew how to open it up correctly. I tried and tried but i was on the verge of breaking it. But the staining keep coming again after a few months i just replaced the just my tachometer.

If i am not wrong, the yellow discolouration is like the plastic degrading. I got the same thing on the inside of my meter unit, used what i could even isopropyl alcohol, which took most of the stains out except for the yellow discolouration.

Try using isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol). You can buy them from any pharmacy.

Congrats! What did you use spiduhz? Rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover?

from what I know they're different chemicals, nail polish remover is acetone and rubbing alcohol is denatured alcohol.

Nail polish remove, with isopropyl alcohol as the base.

i reckon i left it on too long on the tachymeter. Its become cloudy, but feels smooth to the touch. Is there any safe polish i can use to restore the transparency of the meters? Would autosol scratch remover make things worse?

you can try.... it will just add more scratches onto it until the thing is uniformly scratched... as someone once told me... more scratch = no scratch.
