Sparrow update:

There's no room under the fairing for a glove compartment :-(

I put in a waterproof dual USB charger, mounted center dash under the windscreen

Changed the coolant to Engine Ice (only a limited effect on heat, I've found)

Changed the handgrips

Pannier mounts go on this Saturday :-)

 

Heating is still a problem, especially next to my left foot (I can't always wear boots or heavy shoes). I'd like to put an after-market graphite heat guard there but... There isn't such a thing.

 

Cool item: The previous owner put high-intensity red LED flashing lights on the tail with a switch hidden inside the fairing for night time visibility while back-country touring. I discovered it also works brilliantly as an anti-tailgating device, even during the day. Some guy in a sports car was tailing me aggressively the other day. Flick of the ol' switch, a blast of blinking red and he instantly backed waaay off :-) I love it!

 

Questions:

Does anyone have experience wrapping the exhaust header? Would this reduce some of the heat by my foot? How about ceramic coating? Anyone in SGP do this? Other thoughts?

Also, I'm hearing the LTA has suddenly become insanely strict about ANY mods whatsoever during inspections. Anyone have any experience with this? Should I be worried about spending money on things like header wrap?

Laura, the best way is to change the exzos to aftermatket la, coz stock exzos are damn hot! Especially those with catalyser, those fat pipes near the exhaust.

Ok, heat is very common for bb.

Excoz wrap is ok LTA won't stop. Most harley bike and some ducatis bike using Excoz wrap...

Another way is change pipe full system titanium.... Which cost $$$$$$$$$$$$.

 

Don't wear so sexy. I get scalded by the pipe on the right side only wear shorts. So becareful...

But if want to wear no one can stop you.

The heat will get to you only when stationary. On moving is ok.

Anyone have experience with Melboy's seats (UK)? The stock seat is super-uncomfortable - too much slope, especially the pillion - so I'm considering one of their seats. They seem to get great reviews. They all ride Blackbirds, so they know the bike really well.

 

Also getting rider & pillion peg-lowering kits from Jaws.

 

I'm also getting handlebar risers, which will help, but the angle of the bars is also uncomfortable. I had a Triumph Sprint ST in the US & found the bars less angled downward and (especially with risers) waay more comfortable. I see some people put straight bars on the Blackbird, but that's - well, not for me, ha! I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with other handlebar configurations?

 

Greysnail, what pipes would you suggest (want to keep things quiet too though.) Are you suggesting I disable the catalytic converter? Will that pass inspection? Is it reversible?

Melboys seat are comfortable but expensive, y not bring to Eugene Saddlery and ask if they can make ur seat more suitable for you. For exzos, only Scorpion comes to mind, it comes with a silencer so it will produce subtle sound but for us guys we believe loud exzos save lives... Heheheheehhe

As for handlebars, recommended Variobars but may need to change ur throttle cables.

There are 3 catalytic on our bike,1 in header and 2 on pipes. Aftermarket such as scorpion are street legal for bb as long as its suit for bb.

Here's the aftermarket handlebars cost abt $400++ plus u need longer throttle cable from CBR 954 or any cable longer than stock bb

So there's 3 types of bar risers

 

-handlebar risers convert to full bar

-Slip bar risers add additional hight without changing the original handle

-Variobar riser, heli bar risers..... Etc

I met with Eugene's and liked them, but Melboy's a well-tested solution and everyone seems to love them. I'll probably go with that.

For heat - hm. Wrapping the headers seems to be the best option I've heard about.

Do you think the Scorpion pipes will really make a difference in heat, especially if I don't mess with the catalytic converter?

Got a Nolan N104 helmet. White - no pink or cool patterns available ;-( Not a whole lot out there for women riders, is there? *sigh*

Good choice....

There's one more female bb rider riding ows paint fairing.

Ceramic spray will also do the trick go for 600 degree above. I did saw once 1000 degree ceramic spray.

Should get titanium or carbon fiber Excoz.

Aftermarket dun come with cat so it will be less heaty. Remembered my wife shoe the sole came off coz the cat was so hot that the heat from the cat, manage to soften the glue

From what i know brake/tail light as long as emit red light should be ok..signal lights will be yellow. Once i use clear lense for signal light but bulb is normal type..got fined 50sgd on top of my illegal exhaust and front sticker no plate.
