I noticed one of the links in my chain was very loose while lubing it earlier. Looking at the un-tapered shafts had me suspicious that it may be my power link clip.

It was confirmed when I rotated the wheel to look for a power link. No power link, so I reckon I am missing the power link clip.

I don't want to purchase another chain at this point. Could you taper off the shafts and pretend I don't have a power link?

Or could I just buy another power link clip somewhere and snap it on?

I am using a kiss 530 o ring chain, BTW.

Puritans are not going to like it, but i fashioned a clip using a wire whose diameter is a wee bit smaller than a clip.

I pushed the link inwards using my sog, twisted it as tight as i can, and tucked the wire towards the center of the link.

This is not a permanant fix ,mind! Just a quickie so i can get the bike to lab and get a power link clip!

Tested it on centerstand 120 kph, didnt fly out. Should be enough to get to the bike shop.

Well, its better that I knew I am missing the clip. That way, i can practise caution when i ride the bike.

It wont be funny if the chain goes off and i dont know why.

Happy ending. Master link purchased at lab. Used only the clip, and snapped it on. Ah chong helped. Good man...

Hopefully it will last me the lifetime of the chain. And we all know that for kiss chains, not very.

Also purchased a chain breaker tool at lab for the rediculously cheap price of 12 dollars. I might experiment changing the chain myself, one of these days.

Bro, strongly advise to change the chain to rivet type. Clip type chains are suitable for small bikes, not big high powered in-line fours. There is a high risk of the clip coming off again.

I will take that into consideration during my next chain replacement.

Oh. Anyone has a method to grind off a rivet head using only hand tools? This will be a deciding factor if I am to get either a rivet or clip master link.

You will need an angle grinder. But why would this be a deciding factor? Personally, I try to stay away from clip type chains where possible, even for my dirt bikes. Simply because the risk of the clip coming off is higher than a rivet type chain.

In addition, there is no need to remove the chain until it's time to be replaced.

Theoratically this idea will work as it is just to make sure the pins doesn't shift out. However that why we thought about the clip, in the end it might unclip by itself. Save the trouble, go for the rivert type. Don't think it expensive too.
