im on 10mbps plan.

 

my desktop that is connected by wire shows about near to 10mbps..

 

whereas my laptop that connects wireless shows very low speed like 1-3mbps..

 

my laptop is just right beside the modem

 

how come? any solutions?

Dude, do you know what wireless standard is your computer, and your router, running on? Wireless-B, -G, or -N?

 

Wireless N is the fastest.

Please check the specifications of your wireless - is it a B / G / N or whatever? If client is a non-N adapter on a wireless-N network it could cause reduced network speed. Is yours an N router? Sometimes it could be the settings on the laptop's wireless adapter too, poke around the control panel to see what is restricting the speed.
