Sigh! This evening assessment, got one immediate failure, and right in front of our resident instructor, Corse! One guess for which course I failed.

Otherwise got 10 points. At least now I know what other weak points I have. And I can lift the bike! Yaay!

Corse was telling me the latest pass rate for Class 2A and 2 was like 91%. He looked so excited!

Yes, Da Jie Jie! Will get my protective gear soon. At least a pair of gloves. Hard to find gloves that can fit my 'tiny' hands! I went to many places but couldn't find any. :( Aye that filmsy shoes ah, ydae I was lazy to change after work. I usually change to another not so filmsy shoes. But the dress part very difficult. 80% of my working clothes are dresses. By the way, you look super cool with your bike ya.

I also have super tiny hands. You just have to buy the smallest size possible and live with the extra length. So far I've used these two brands:

Alpinestar Stella SPS gloves - XS still a bit too large but at least the palms fit. I bought it online.

Dainese Motodon Lady - XS fits just right, even the fingers. I bought it from Melbourne so you probably have to buy online unless the local Dainese shop also sells.

As for shoes & pants, just see what our dear own s4^dreamer does:

I can understand your 'lazy to change after work'.. I was lazy to change my shoes after work one time when I was going for Class 3 lessons. I think that day the instructor puke blood cos I stall the car so many times.

He still very nicely remind me to wear my usual shoes the next time but I think he darn pissed lah :D

Since we're on shoes... would it be ok to wear safety shoes (as opposed to track shoes) when I *finally* go for lessons? Cos I should think they might be a bit bulky and stuff.

Posted

Track shoes are actually quite slippery especially when it's raining. Safety shoes are ok except they are quite thick, not sure if it will interfere with your gear shifting or not. It's just a matter of getting used to it.

Otherwise, either is fine as far as SSDC is concerned. They just need you to wear covered shoes.

hi corse,

I'm unsure where are the blind spots to check as well as the line up in the lane(in pair or single file). I did checked with the instructors and I will probably ask again next RC. It would be good if the printout route for the new ssdc's circuit show the blind spot, indication lights and check-backs as like the printout of the old ssdc's circuit.

but i gotta say that the new circuit is better to practise in. E brake also much easier than in the old ssdc.

cheers.

I believe what u're asking is called 'Check Back' & not blind spot. They are 2 different things.

Blindspot - (looking over ur shoulder)

Blindspot is when u're in motion. When u're going to turn left, u check ur blindspot left. If u're going to turn right, then u check right.

Checking Back, is done only when u r stationary, before u move off.

Most of the single file formations are checking back right.

Usually at traffic lights, or when there are sharing arrows, u'll form up 1 row(if u're turning left, u keep 1 row left, if not than keep to the opposite side).

If u're at a stopline, and the arrow points to only 1 direction(left or right) then its 2 rows.

If its 2 rows, it all depends. If u're turning right, everyone checks back right.

If u're turning left, then the checking back becomes Inwards(Rider on the left, checks right, Rider on the right, checks left.

Other place where u check back inwards when going straight in done on the ascending slope and the starting line of Emergency Brake. :thumb:

Why don't dare? It's a matter of safety. Don't tell me you dare to ride around with barely any protection? Now THAT, I don't dare.

Let's not argue about this safety issue. It's my personal preference. I love to wear shorts, dress, mini-skirts, slippers, etc. I'm usually being driven around on weekends. If no car, I would take public transports. I wouldn't dare to ride with what I wear too. If I do ride on weekends, I would wear jeans.

This is certainly your choice. Afterall, your skin, your body, your business.

I am only thankful that after my partner T-bone a car at high speed, face hit the car, fly over the car, and landed on the other side and slide on the road, he only end up with this:

This is him pre-op. He went through 2 operations in total.

Result speaks for itself.

Thank God he is 'alrite', i agree could have been worse and i've seen worse. Maybe you'd like to share what protection he had?

After reading your description of the accident I found it unbelievable when I saw the photos!! Thank goodness!

Posted (edited)

He was riding a CBR954RR. Accident took place at T-junction of Clementi Road and Sunset Way.

The gear he was wearing:

Helmet: BMW System 5 flip-up

Gloves: Alpinestar Sledge leather gloves

Jacket: Dainese (with armour)

Pants: Icon jeans

Boots: Vendramini Puma

Helmet flip up was dislodged, and cut into his chin (you can see the wound in the picture), visor was totally scratched. But helmet stayed in one piece.

Gloves had barely any scratches despite him actually sliding on the road. But had to be cut open by the ambulance staff. He got the same pair after that.

Jacket was okay but had to be cut open by ambulance staff. He got another Dainese jacket as replacement.

Jeans slightly torn but still usable.

Boots were totally fine.

Too bad he deleted the photos of the bike. The front was smashed in, the frame was bent. The whole bike was a write-off. The other party was fined and got points, and he got a huge insurance payout.

For one year after the accident, he was riding a 200cc Gilera Runner. He still wore the same outfit (this time Shoei Multitec). He didn't care if anyone was laughing at him.

Hey thanks for sharing, so good, even got links... :thumb:

Why he changed to Gilera after that?

Posted

His wrist (left) was still healing, so he couldn't ride a sportsbike or any bike that needs to change gear. His second operation was a few months after the first (to take out some screws).

I also just passed my 2B so it was just nice. We could share.

Anyway he's riding an MP3 now. He also bought another CBR954RR and of course there's my Ducati...

lutein, thanks for sharing.

I will invest on a pair of gloves and a good jacket.

I did see a few smaller size jackets for ladies at Motorworld.
