Hi all, mah friend is interested in a Vara so i am doing the homework for him as he has no PC at home.........

Can any kind folks pls give your honest opinion on the "Big Brute" both Pros and Cons for his consideration ie fuel consumption, max cruising speed, common problems, maintence ........ and stuffs like that.........

Is there a difference in the EFI and Carb model? if so, pls enlighten us............ and which year the EFI model start? heard that the bike is a petrol drinker, any comments?

Lastly, what should i look for in a 2nd hand (beside accessories, commmon problems) Brute and any sightings recently? anyway?

cheers

Shithead>> This bike is a 1l Vtwin. So shd be expecting alot of torque and effortless pulls when overtaking.

Carb And EFI is totally different as the name implies. EFI uses fuel injection , and is controlled electronically. CArb is not so technologically advance.

The difference between both is

1. Price , efi is more expensive.

2. Power? Its has a higher compression ratio.

3. Gear, 6 gear , carb is 5 gear

4. Fuel consumption . Could squeeze out 1-2km/l than carb model.

5. EFi model are from 2003 onwards

Other than those points , both bikes are similar. Both will gives you a silly grin when u pulls it from stand still. These bikes are fantastic ride

Average fuel is about 15-16km/l for carb. Add 1-2 km/l more for EFI

MAssive 25l tank can save u a tidy sum of $ when u go msia

Cruise with ease at 150km/h superb wind protection and comfortable seat for pillion and rider.

Common problem for this bike are fuel pump - need to change after 25k km onwards. But if u getting 2nd hand , chances are its changed.

Other problems I can't list out already... so far thats the only prob I encountered during my 4 yr riding this baby

Maintenance wise not much. 2 spark plugs , 3.5L engiine oil per 5000-10000km.. owner preferences.

Pertol drinker ... depends on what bike u r comparing it to... if to AT no need to say. Of cos higher , cc also 250 cc more what... enough to fuel a PGM 4 liao...

Else I say its average depending on how u ride it.. u ride hard its thristy. U ride it normally , its a decent mileage per tank of gas.

I am getting about 340-350km per 21L of petrol.

shithead> Bro theres no regret getting it....everytime u take a turn ur hearts will go fast ...thats the trill...

varas>any intention selling ur pats separately?

Bros> 16 days to go.....

Posted

trex>> 16 days go where??? hehe

Anyway , parts going with the bike.. so lucky next owner. No need to search high low left right for accessories..

All goodies onboard could fetch at least 5k on the 2nd hand market..

Gentleman tks for your feedback, well the bike is not for me but a friend w/o computer at home so i am helping him with the homework:smile:

Well his current 750cc is giving him problems every month by changing spares so he is abit fustrated and wanted to push back motordiam and if never incur losses, he might consider this.

But as the above mentioned, will this Big Mama throw tantrums every now and then? that is one of his main concern(fuel pump aside cos he is ok with it) does it have piston or gasket problem? rectifier or other problem? etc........

Fuel consumption is also according to one's riding style  this i know and the statistics given by all is very economical. How fast can tis Big Twin Mama go before shake, rattle and roll :cheeky:

tks alot bros

Varas,

Time for my 80k servicing now... know you did yours a while back. Can you give me a list of things I should ask the mech to check or change for me this time around (on top of the normal servicing stuff)? Hoping to tap on your knowledge - as u are the chairMAN!

sorry guys for MIA so long - hope to meet up again soon... Heard Andy is off to Cambodia on one of his loner-treks again - I guess more stories to come...

peace...

shithead>> will go 200km/h before it gets scary .. but no problem holding 160km/h for touring ... its not a racer so dun expect much high insane speed.. anyway big mama wouldn't throw much tantrum, just normal wear and tear .. usual change of batt and rectifer after 50k. Till now, no problems from her at all.

Baga>> I tot u went back liao .. so bz lately??

For me, I just did valve clearance, plus the usual stuff... sparks , E/O , air filter cleaning ... oh while u r at it, tighten the cam chain .. nothing much already. I am going to do that too..

I think go on 14 is best. Water festival anywhere in thai is Shiok kekek.

ASAP>> too bouncy , u need to set more damping. Turn anti -clockwise will increase more damping.

Varas > To increase the damping, is it turn the bottom black adjuster of the Technoflex suspension by 2 clicks? Not the top adjuster rite.

ASAP>> top adjuster which required C -tool to adjust is for preload adjustment. The bottom black adjuster is for damping.. so anti clockwise is for increasing damping. So far I am using 48clicks ,my weight is 73kgs

Varas > So can just use hand to increase the damping or need tool? How do we know how many clicks r we using? The manual that i have has an indication 24 clicks but not sure whether Smicerboy has adjusted before tho. I'm like 90kg n guess Smicerboy probably arg 80kg as he's tall.

ASAP>> For damping hand will do, tool is for PRELOAD. Anyway , total clicks from full to btm is 55 clicks . I was wrong on the directions, its clockwise to increase damping ...U wouldn't go wrong if u adjusted it clockwisely for a more damped ride. If damping is too little, the ride is too bouncy.
