Hi Guys,

I hope I am not intruding into this topic, and my 1985 Honda NV400MK2 is also considered a cruiser.

I need some recommendation on a good workshop/mechanic who can properly do up the bike. It needs some carbureter tuning, valve clearance setting, clutch plate change.....etc.

Those motor tiam owner/mechanic who I know are familiar with this bike, are not interested to touch my bike, for reason that I believe is too "slow" money making business for them.

I understand old bikes require Leaded petrol, for the engine to work properly. I was once advised to use the petrol additive from Caltex when it was available some years back ( when leaded was just phased out ). Prolonged usage of unleaded, will result in valve "cracking". Anyone here kind enough to comment on this ?

Thanks alot.

Don't know if this website will help... it's for the Honda NV750, which is what your bike should be based on... so I won't be surprised if they share many of their parts and bike specs.

Look under the sub-topic 'TO', they have pictures of the users' manual. Got parts fiche there also. Hope this helps!

There's a shop near Paya Lebar MRT in Eunos Industrial park with a malay guy by the name of Rosli ( I think) that does a lot of cruisers..maybe let him have a look. Go to cruisers thread and ask :cheeky:

I rode both Mk1 and MkII for some years, last one scrape in 2001.

COnfirm case many mechs wont want to touch as it really problematic when

problem arise, otherwise this bike can just go on and on.

Because of its age, many things do give way due to wear and tear.

Mine had wires half-rot/melt here and there. Eventually even the radiator

water got into the engine ...I think the radiator links in the engine block

area also corroded...aka puke blood!

I luv this bike VERY MUCH. I even took out all usable parts when I scrape it,

hoping to buy another for keeps. then shift house my bro threw the whole box of

spares away :faint:

Sing motor (or seng motor??) opposite opposite queensway shopping has the best

knowledge on this bike as far as I know; provided he willing to do for you.

Spare part thats hard to find, go to Ah boy at LAD, he use to be able to find all sorts

of stuffs for me, 2nd hand ones also cos new one no more!

Cant sleep...type so much...lol cheers

Dear Nighthawk,

Thanks for your information. I will explore the shop you mentioned.

If your current bike is a Nighthawk, then thats a good choice. Reliable, no need to worry about the water leaking anymore......

It is also on my list of "what next to buy......"

This is especially true for pre-1986 vehicle (car and motorcycle) but, it would be fine to run premium unleaded fuel as this is the much recommended since lead replacement fuel is not available in Singapore as far as I could see. Not to worry about the drivability and performance on premium unleaded fuel as it will be the same as on leaded petrol. You just have to ensure that your bike is tuned for the premium unleaded fuel according to these minor variations in density, composition and volatility to meet the new regulations. Setting the correct air-fuel ration is critical for any unleaded fuels because without lead, the spark plugs may suffer fouling more quickly, especially if the engine is running rich.

Good luck!

Think its at blk 1006 lane 2, one of the boss name is micheal.

the nighthawk Im riding, you should really give it a try.

Bare simple bike, super long range fuel economy bike.

The bike shop uncle say this bike no need battery, alternator etc also can ride,

just push start

It has no radiator, no brake fluid to take care etc. I rode it to phuket months back, maintenance free :thumb:

A very comfy bike with selection readily for your choice. OD option is best for highway cruising.

Yes, old bike....very old bike, but as long proper care is taken upon with, it should last you long. I nvr heard that unleaded fuel will cause so much problem to valve system. I used to use Vpower for my old daddy NV400. Mine was fine until it was scrapped in a deadly crash.

YOu need to take care of the water pump, mechanical seals, tappet clearance and so on...... to ensure this old daddy to serve you another few more years, cares must be taken. YOu can try Southern Motor and look for Ah heng to help. Not sure if he wanted to, but for his rich expericence, i don;t think NV400 Custom will be a big problem for him.

Good luck and enjoy.

My first taste on two-wheels ----- Honda CBX125 Custom

Wah lau. First bike, first orgasm, first time in almost anything on 2 wheels :thumb:

My first love too:lovestruck: First saddlebag boght frm LAB $150. Damn lousy bag.

Never will ever buy saddlebag frm LAB again!!! NEVER!!!

And the dreaded--- my first 'cut-throat' by the motodiam.

That bike was blowing white smoke from the exhaust!

Sent to overhaul --- $1000! :faint:

1mth later ---there she blows again (white smoke)

got my first accident on that bike at The Padang traffic light.

Nothing serious to me but her front fork senget. (bend)

Ho ho still managed to ride her to workshop. Repaired. 2nd accident on her again.

Finally trade her for LC125.

LC125 - another story to tell.........what acolourful life on 2 wheels
