Measure your head and get from ebay.

This is ecommerce era whereby you can save alot of $ by purchasing from USA online stores directly.

Replaced my HJC visor at S$30+ only from Korea via ebay compared to MxtxWxxxxd's S$50.

I bought my health supplements from USA online stores too, super cheap, buy 1 in SG can get 3 from USA.

Some bikers just like flip-up, their own preference.

There are many other helmet stores in ebay. Find them yourself.

No one can beat LAB in terms of price. No. One.

See if you can get a dual-visor FF helmet from LAB at $80.

Things are super cheap in US, of course you can't ship a Harley bike here from ebay but only those accessories and parts.

Just to name a few stores.

http://stores.ebay.com/T-MOTORSPORTS-STORE

http://stores.ebay.com/cycleworlds

http://stores.ebay.com/tmshelmet

http://stores.ebay.com/123gohelmets

After measuring your head's circumference, go for slightly larger helmet.

For e.g., if you measure that it is 58 cm, go for 59-60cm helmet.

Or go down to local stores and check the size.

As indicated in many stores:

Full-Face Helmet Size Chart

Sm 55-56 cm

Md 57-58 cm

Lg 59-60 cm

XL 61-62 cm

XXL 63-64 cm

MEASURING YOUR HEAD before purchase: A small metal tape measure, or a cloth tape may be used to take your measurement. If possible, have a helper do the measuring in order to get a more accurate measurement. The circumference of the head should be measured at a point approximately one inch above the eyebrows, or at whatever point gives the largest possible measurement. Then check the SIZE CHART above for a correct custom fit. I've seen the inner side of a flip-up helmet at LAB shop indicating 56cm for size SMALL which matches with the size chart above, you can go there to try out first. In my experience, try to get the larger size, let's say you measure your head's max diameter is 59-60cm, according to the chart you should get L, but you should go for XL instead.

Can check out sportbiketrackgear.com. They do have some closeout deals on scorpion helmets most of the time. Slightly above TS budget but at least its a scorpion...

not really a good idea to buy helmets online if you nv try it on before.. unless you dun mind risking the $$ and ship in the helmet to try. getting the head diameter correct is 1 thing, but sometimes the internals simply dun match your head shape.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Very true, make sure u read up the reviews on the particular helmet that you are buying ie shell sizing, fits what type of head shape etc...the rest is luck. There's always a risk when buying online.

hey ppl/byte77, are those helmets sold from overseas/online legal to wear in sg? is it as safe compared to those being approved n sold in sg with all those safety stickers n etc???

Posted

if follow by book, it is illegal cux its not PSB approved... but they are mostly DOT or SNELL approved, which if im nt wrong, is higher standard than PSB... so safety wise, u shud be fine in terms of protection compared to a PSB helmet.. but might hv trouble wif TP that are fussy.. or even insurance claims if *touch wood* accident.. :)

Just bought a almost new HJC AC-12 from a forum guy.

Though it only bears the 'DOT approved' sticker without PSB one, he actually bought it from a local store too.

As thought by the instructor in BBDC, the right helmet for the test is the helmet which is not tightened by the strap comes with 'belt clip' but 'dual rings' instead.

TP can notice the helmet type if he stops you and he may be particular in this helmet tightening mechanism if he has a quarrel with his wife.

Nonetheless msian bikers flooding sg customs are wearing worse assorted helmets and most by default come with belt-clip strap.

Though I don't think TP will be so free to standby before BKE woodlands and summon every malaysian biker.

personally i'll only buy reputable brands when it comes to helmets. i mean, if you buy an unknown brand off the internet cheap, who knows if it'll stand up to a crash? and even if they are as safe as the major brands, what about things like comfort, quality, durability etc? brands like arai, agv, shoei, hjc etc have been making helmets for a long time, surely they know a thing or two about making a good, dependable helmet.

but then again, if things like safety, comfort and quality are secondary compared to price, then by all means, knock yourself out shopping online for cheap, untested brands.

I have bought a PGR full face helmet with sun visor from Ebay for SGD80. Here is my review of the helmet.

Built quality I rate it 6/10, the styrofoam cut out for the air vent inside the helmet looks very crude. The sun visor is flimsy and not effective at all and it worsen your vision on the road and it does not flip smoothly. The external clear visor is somehow warp and it make me feel dizzy and at certain angle a far away object suddenly magnify, it clouds your judgement especially when squeezing between cars.

Wind Noise: 5/10 It very noisy from the opening area where you flip up/down the sun visor.

Comfort: 6/10 The cushion is thick and squash my nerve on the face and ear initially but after using a month its alright(suggest to get a size larger after measuring the rim of your head). The helmet is not light, my neck aches after riding for 15mins and the rubber breath guide is stink of rubber smell.

Overall I still feels the HJC CL-ST which I own previously is more comfortable and better quality.
