nowadays students very rich

hahA!!

anyway, things to look out for:

-main body frame no signs of welding and rebuilding(esp for bonnet), if so means it has been in a major accident

-all wiring and switches working(lights, signals, headlights)

-air con very impt! (very ex to do urself)

-engine run smooth(not too sure on this though)

-comfortable to ur eyes

i jus got my 92' suzuki swift and there was alot of prob in it..

-boot leak water when rain, gotta identify the leaks and go seal with silicone myself..

-high beam abit siao siao

-wiper also not smooth

-alarm after one day spoil liao, no sound

-aircon radiator fan also not working very well

and alot more...

so be careful of ur choice!! good luck!! :thumb:

Siao Liao what type of civic U are getting? EG or EK? Would you be able to fork up $2K++ should something happen to the car? As U already know its an old car so due to wear & tear must have the $$ for the repair.

One very important thing that people miss out.

The person you buy from is very crucial.

Dont believe what dealers say, they only want to make a deal.

But if you buy from private owner, ask him as many questions as you want. Private owners are generally more honest and truthful about facts of the cars.

Of course, there are judgemental calls you have to make when believing what people say.

CivicR's advice is good. make sure you have at least $2k set aside to do some immediately corrective work if required.

yup...got 2k on hand just in case of wear and tear...this kind of thing i think i know..cos its the same as owning a bike...except the amount is higher abit..the only thing i dunno is the procedure..cos i not sure is it the same as buying a bike..all the hire purchase all these..but then..i went down with my dad le...procedure..more or less is the same...

beside..i think i settle down for a 92 lancer...cos can feel and hear that te engine is quite healthy for a 15 year old car..and wif full body kit some more..so exterior loook ok..except cushion seat..but i think i gona ask the saleman to change to leather seat for me...thanks guy for all ur help...

haiz..have to gif up riding temp...but no worry guys..i will be back! keke

what i did was to ask the seller to drive to my workshop & let my mechanic check the vehicle...visual check only ah! no stripping of any parts whatsoever.

what my mechanic did was to raise the van and both my mech & myself went below to check the condition of the undercarriage. it tells a lot about the vehicle...

check for tell tale signs of abuse like dents on the shaft..radiator and engine oil leaks..check if there is any exceptionally new parts under the bonnet, eg left side screws are brand new...but right side screws are black & dirty...

give the 4 shock absorbers a little press down & see how does it react....too many bounces means maybe its time to change them...too soft already...

best if the mech can go for a test drive..

i feel that external condition is not that important....small dents whatsoever...thats part & parcel of buying a 2nd hand car...most of them have some...

most important is the engine condition...

Almost wanted to get a Civic myself (a COE-ed one). Wanted something within budget yet not so expensive.

Was looking at SIRs, Civic Type Rs. Joined in discussions with honda club members, but many adviced me if I had the budget, go for a new car, a piece of mind. So after some serious thinking, ordered a new car for myself.

2nd hand car is no doubt cheap, but be prepared to pay for 150% road tax and the normal wear and tear. Of course if you happened to get a re-conditioned car(by previous owner) then good for you.

Owning a car is not cheap, many things hidden (petrol, parking!!!, traffic jam etc). No doubt its slightly safer than riding a bike and keeps you sheltered from rain(provided ur roof dun leak).

Give it some thought, make your own choice... good luck.

I was looking at the civics available now and i felt the old esi/lsi/eg/ek models were the best looking of the lot. Although new cars give a piece of mind, its hard to find anything that will look like these babies.

I don't have the intention of getting a car now but sadly i'm not sure if these models will still be ard when i'm finally financially capable.
